  2. Mr. Chambers! Don't get on that ship! The rest of the book, "To Serve Man", it's - it's a cookbook!

  3. For fellow mstie's IT IS OFFICIAL ! MST3K RENEWED FOR SEASON 12 !

  4. Ataribox JUST shared this message and images in their Facebook page................hahahahhaha We were going to wait for launch to show you the Ataribox Joystick, but we like it way too much to wait. What do you think?
  5. Looking forward to starting it soon, got all the episodes on a stick to play on our smart TV. A few weeks back our relatives visited and left us with a new SHARP 43' 4K TV. Though it was really unexpected I gotta admit even watching YouTube on this thing has been cool.
  6. Happy retirement Cassandra Peterson / aka Elvira! It's been fun! http://gazette.com/retirement-crooks-a-finger-at-colorado-springs-raised-queen-of-halloween/article/1614202 Guessing she'd rather retire while still in good form and remembered fondly. Been a hell of a great run!
  7. Fats Domino, rock 'n' roll pioneer has died at age 89 Sad but good considering his size / age, rockin kept him going. RIP Fats. http://toronto.citynews.ca/2017/10/25/fats-domino-rock-n-roll-pioneer-died-age-89/

  8. And really when you break down the proposal they are really not offering anything one cannot do themselves by taking a mid level PC and loading it up with emulators and adding a wireless controller. Sega would laugh at this.
  9. Thank you, agree 100%, it has never worked this way in the past, these "fans" are delusional but I think it is a reflection of the current generation based less in reality and more thinking because of social media believing in their own self interests take priority over anything else. It is great to have nostalgia and love something but this is not the way to revive it.
  10. Honestly had no plan to replace the old Toshiba 27' Tube Standard def until it literally died but that decision was made for us when relatives visited a few weeks ago and bought us a new 43" 4k Sharp TV. Gotta admit it is nice.

      Sabertooth

How does it handle older systems? Does it accept a 240p signal?

480p Tubes are still better for retro games, but 4K is better for TV shows. You need both

    3. Sabertooth

      Sabertooth

I agree, but if you don't have space for both it becomes an issue. My tubes are in the garage and I have a few "beater" consoles that I keep hooked up out there. My "good" consoles are in the house and I use an older Samsung HD TV that still has s-video and component, despite being 1080p. It has a 4:3 aspect ratios setting too and most retro games look great on it. When that dies, it will be an upgrade and I know that some 4K TVs do not play well with the oldest consol...

  11. More "proposals" and signatures blah blah blah, what these clowns do not seem to get is SEGA have no interest, IF they do want to re-enter the market I am sure they have their own way of doing so. https://spartanconsole.com/ Sega Spartan? More like Sega Fartin am I right? ENOUGH ALREADY. No amount of petitions or signatures by Sega Fans is going to make the current Sega take notice or give a shit, they are too busy lending their license and IP's to cheap Chinese handheld and clone manufacturers for quick cashing in on Sega fans nostalgia. From the site - Is the Spartan and Sonic 4K endorsed by Sega? No. The Spartan is not endorsed by Sega. This project serves to build a working prototype to propose to Sega. In turn, entice them to come back to the console hardware market with a current gen console. Sonic 4K is a fan made tech demo. It will not be sold for commercial purposes. HERE WE GO AGAIN IN OTHER WORDS ONCE AGAIN SOME RABID FANS THINK SEGA IS GOING TO GIVE A CRAP, ENOUGH ALREADY, This will serve only to ONCE AGAIN stir up all the Sega fanboys and get hopes up only to result in another failed attempt. "Project Dream" , Dreamcast II etc, etc, etc, rinse and repeat. AND BEFORE anyone starts with the "Oh but anything is possible! Stop being "negative"! " No, no. there is nothing of substance or anything based in reality here, we keep seeing this, over and over and over for years now, all the "WANTING" and "WISHING" and "DREAMING" are NOT going to do a damn thing to bring a worth while Sega console to market. It is not being "negative" or having a glass half empty viewpoint it is common sense and being rooted in reality. I LOVE SEGA , I have had about every console and handheld and still have several including Sega CDX, SMS, 3 Dreamcasts etc which I will always love and enjoy. But every time there is a Fan based project, proposal, online petition, rendered images and a lot of vague double talk and saying things like "We are hoping to entice Sega back into the console market" the end result is ALWAYS the same and if you been following and paying any type of attention you damn well know it, every two bit online gaming related article and blogger spin it into some positive great new Sega hope, fans get stirred into a frenzy to the point of getting mad or defensive if you so much as question the validity of it, there is a lot of talk and hype and noise and then.....either excuses or it completely disappears or to reemerge in another form or fashion in 3 month, 6 months, or a year, LATHER RINSE AND REPEAT It has to be said and it is OK, I am quite use to the misinformed and defensive fan backlash proclaiming me quite wrongly to be a HATER or not Party Spoiler or the most ludicrous accusation that I merely hate SEGA (my collection / history would say different ) because in the end it is always the same result, I see no reason to expect anything different THIS TIME or THE NEXT TEN TIMES If anything I am a Sega Fan who does not let my love or nostalgia guide me or blind me to what common sense and repeated history has taught me, you do not have to like it but you should at least try to accept it and deal with it. Just wanting this madness to stop.
  12. You nailed it, Sega Spartan? More like Sega Fartin am I right? ENOUGH ALREADY. No amount of petitions or signatures by Sega Fans is going to make the current Sega take notice or give a shit, they are too busy lending their license and IP's to cheap Chinese handheld and clone manufacturers for quick cashing in on Sega fans nostalgia.

  13. Minor Update: The Acer AspireOne is an Intel Atom based device so my assesment is it is always going to be somewhat slow in use but that said it still manages to do what I need it to. What I like about it is it is so tiny yet solid with it's 10.1 inch display. On the upside Linux Mint is still very nice, I am fully updated and I think I can say I am taking full advantage of the device as a bonus I had a spare SSD lying about, a 40GB Kingston so I used that to replace the 160GB HDD, sure it is much smaller obviously but considering I have pretty much everything I want on it and I still have 30GB FREE of 38.2GB total, so only 21% of the space is being used it is well worth it for the increase in speed. On top of that I really lucked out as looking through all the spare parts I kept over the years I found a laptop SoDimm so I swapped the memory it already had, 1GB with a 2GB spare one I found, this brings it to the 2GB total that it is capable of. This is awesome as the 1GB was already reaching max with a few tabs open in Firefox, now I have plenty of memory space to spare in this OS. So turns out this little find is even better with the upgrades, seems it was meant to be. Lastly I have installed several new programs including Chromium Browser just now and all done using the Software Manager built into Linux Mint. Fun stuff. I will definitely keep this device and keep Linux Mint installed on it.
  14. Welcome! I think you will enjoy your time here!
  15. Excellent Rick! As you know I installed the same version of Linux Mint on the tiny AcerOne Aspire, though I had a minor issue installing the WiFi I figured it out and now it is all set up and running well. There IS a learning curve yes despite what some might say but overall it definitely is lighter on the resources allow for some thing a Windows OS would really drag with. I LOVE REPURPOSING old tech and using lighter OS alternatives is a great way as well it expands our knowledge. NOTE : I am not a fan of typing into terminal prompts and lost my love for that after years of modern Windows usage (if that makes me lazy so be it but I skipped the DOS age of PC's using the AMIGA workbench GUI then straight to Win98 lol) but there ARE good alternatives for installing more software you might be interested in using Linux Mints own in built Software Manager. I plan on giving it a good look over for anything else I might want to add. On that note you may find THIS of interest : https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/applications Good stuff Rick, thanks for sharing and have fun! - Rob.
  16. I don't and likely wont but if I did....I'd mod it and put all my favorite Snes Roms and RetroArch on it with hackchi2...........
  17. Random memory - Back in the day as a kid I would be thankful of 2600 carts in ANY condition even with torn or missing labels, I guess I was more creative and had more time in those days as I would literally create new labels with sticky paper, colored pencils and I would even cover them over top with transparent sticky tape in an attempt to preserve / protect my work. While they were hardly magnificent works of art they were creative and original and damn I wish I had kept them over the years.

I picked up some like that. My Tutankham has no label. It is sometimes cheaper to get those since some people turn an eye from a game that has poor or no labels. But it is a good opportunity to get titles cheaper.

Hey, if a game works, I could care less if the label sucks. My copies of Adventure, Galaxian, and Swordquest Earthworld all have ratty labels, but they work perfectly fine.

  18. THERE IS TRUTH HERE Why Spend $80 on an SNES Classic When You Can Install Emulators on a Raspberry Pi and Never Shut the Fuck Up About It? http://thehardtimes.net/harddrive/spend-80-snes-classic-can-install-emulators-raspberry-pi-never-shut-fuck/ Jokes aside there is a lot of truth to it. That all said here is MY stance on it all, I AM somewhat of a tinkerer and would never by any of the Nes / Snes Classic mini's myself though that is partly because I have issue with Nintendo's practices meeting demand and fulfilling promises to customers but I DO get it . Otherwise though, this is my 2 cents worth - You have a few specific types of people, the crazed Nintendo fanboy that would buy a potato as long as it had the "official" Nintendo branding, the collectors who also will buy simply because "NINTENDO" , the non- techy type, yes I know it is all very "easy" and I would do it myself but there are people who simply recall some fun and nostalgia and want to recapture that so they will buy for the look, branding, ease of use, just enough to satisfy the nostalgia and get that warm and fuzzy feeling. There are probably even those that will buy these and hack'em like they did the NES Classic (It wont be long the components are said to be practically identical ) and add even more roms to it. Those of us, myself included may find it odd anyone would choose the official Nintendo option and realize the madness of Nintendo shortages and how much more we can get for our money going the Pi or other emulation route but it does not matter, it will sell and sell out and there will always be people to buy these things, pretty sure those of us that might use a Pi are the minority compared to the millions of kids, parents, grand parents etc, that will pick up the official Nintendo Classics, I never would and I may feel I "know better" but the fact is we are not the target audience and Nintendo knows it as well. What IS great though is we have these options and so each individual can choose whichever suites them best, there is no right or wrong here. Whichever route you go GAME ON and more power to you all! Is a great time to be a classic gaming fan!
  19. Just to add for those wondering about the integrity / history of those currently involved with "ATARIBOX" here is something to consider posted now by Larry Bundy on Facebook - Pasted exactly from his original post Larry Bundy 2 hrs · Anyone who is thinking in investing in that AtariBox, I seriously recommend you have a long, hard think about doing so. The project is run by a man with a track record of abandoned kickstarters and using either Chinese knock-offs or over the counter items you could easily build yourself. He screwed up his USB memory wristband Kickstarter so much, he ended up sending all the backers an email on how to build them themselves >.> Anyhoo, here's a video on his previous projects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujKxVNEHVS0
  20. I am hoping the factor that wakes people to reality is over pricing and the Indigogo RED FLAG, we will have to wait and see, priced right I would consider it just for the case and styling (knowing full well support is likely to be lame) - overall ever since earlier talks about PC technology I have to say this is about EXACTLY what I was expecting, in other words a low powered PC hardware box with Linux core that streams with apps etc. THIS IS LIKE A THOUSAND OTHER STREAMING BOXES you can import from cheap Chinese sites like AliExpress / DX . com etc. It seems about the only thing that will set it apart (IF IT EVEN COMES TOGETHER AS THEY CLAIM) is the addition of bundled Atari games (emulated like on Android on I am guessing) and a 2600 theme / styling. Even just as that could have been a fun impulse grab at the right pricing level just for collectors purposes but it is sounding like that styling along with the logo / licensing and bundle of Atari games is exactly why they seem to feel they can waaaaaay over charge for this. If that is the case I think I will just get a similar device at a 3rd of the cost and simply slap on some woodgrain MAKtac, install my own emulated Atari games and call it a day. Sure it may not be "official" but it will be something likely almost as good if not better. TRY TO REMEMBER FOLKS THIS IS NOT REALLY "ATARI" IT IS SIMPLY A NAME / LICENSE / IP acquired by people looking to bank our love and nostalgia for the original company. Some, actually many people always seem to want to believe that it is something more, it really isn't. And hey that is fine, even I would buy into something like this merely for that Atari logo if it were priced at an impulse buy level but it does not look like that will be the case so imho buying into and supporting such crap tells these companies how gullible and accepting we are to buy into ANYTHING and ANY PRICE, vote with your dollars folks and send the proper message.
