  1. Armando Gonzalez has reclaimed the WR for Galaga (Tournament Settings) with a score of 9,525,700! The record run took place earlier in the week but I just learned about it earlier today. Gonzalez topped Mike Thompson's record of 6,679,190 set back in February.

I got to 106K but no further. I may try one last time either later today or tomorrow morning.

  3. Here's a new feature which I will upload between shows: It's a tournament & scoring challenge recap from the world of retrogaming, including the Club VCS Reloaded Squad Challenge. It's work in progress but I want to get the debut uploaded. Check it out! (Thanks to GibGirl at Lvl Up Score for the idea!)

  8. Rest In Peace, John Madden.

I would have posted this in a forum, but which one? Consider: There is a generation of gamers (and probably non-gamers) who have NO IDEA about John Madden, the NFL analyst whose everyman style and extensive knowledge of football  transformed sports broadcasting. Heck, I'm sure the same generation has NO IDEA John Madden won over 100 games in 10 years as the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders, and did so in an era when the NFL season was only 14 games. (His .759 winning percentage was 2nd all-time when he stepped down as Head Coach.)

Lest we forget the Lite beer commercials!

John Madden Football went from the PC to the Sega Genesis & Super Nintendo to the stratosphere.

    What a legacy.

    1. RickR

      RickR

From all the reading I've done, the guy we got to know on-the-air was exactly the person he was to those who knew him.  Funny, warm, and nice.  He loved the game of football and it showed.

    2. Marco1019

      Marco1019

He had the ability to take the game of football seriously while not taking himself too seriously. Yet you learned about the game whenever he was in the booth. His pairing with Pat Summerall was not smooth at first (Summerall had a close friendship with his previous partner, Tom Brookshier), but Summerall & Madden became the pre-eminent NFL broadcasting team. If they were calling your team's game on a Sunday, then it's because it meant something. The game became more of an event.

  9. We're a third of the way through May and about 23 hours from Episode 81 of Retro With Marco! Tune in tomorrow night at 9pm ET when you will see...

It was a good show last night despite muting my mic late (again) lol! Here's part of the Tournament Roundup segment which featured both Club VCS and the Squad Challenge:

      @Sabertooth, @Justin, check it out!

(FYI: The "golden toilet" at the outset refers to the Crap Tournament 14 hosted on CAGTournaments.com. That tournament will feature 12 crappy arcade games.)

FYI - @Justin , @Sabertooth - The Atari.io challenges will be updated on the show going forward. Please feel free to keep me posted on future challenges. I'll do my best to keep tabs on here & other sites, but there may be times (like, for example, this week) when I lose track.

  16. I purchased the 8bitdo SN30 wireless controller, mainly for Antstream but also in hopes it will work for Steam.

The big question: Will Bentley Bear pick up his pace? Will he enter a full sprint or a light jog? 🤣

    1. Marco1019

      Marco1019

UPDATE: I had no luck getting the controller to work, unfortunately. This despite the firmware update. Neither my M1 MacBook, my old MacBook, nor Apple TV will pick it up via Bluetooth.

So, yeah, that Atari VCS controller is looking sleek hahahaha!

  20. I've been around but unable to visit this particular site recently. Firefox prevented access and gave me a warning that this site would install malicious software or something like that. I tried Safari & Chrome but to no avail. I'm here now, though, so I'm confused as to what happened.

Hi Marco! The non-forums part of the site has been having some security issues lately. See this thread:

      https://forums.atari.io/topic/4465-atari-io-malware-security-warning-issue/

It brings up a warning for even the forums much of the time. When I use my phone browser no warnings appear, so that's how I've been using the site lately.

  21. Congratulations to @nads on his perfect 300 on 2600 Bowling!

  22. Hello again! Here's the latest on my end:

All of the non-gaming stuff in my life ramped up significantly to where I postponed my Twitch show on a few occasions.

While work was rather hectic, it was still going well. However, it remained hectic throughout these summer months; I had to do a double-take when I realized it was the 2nd half of August.

Unrelated, but no less important: I went for a Wellness Visit (Physical) for the first time in far too long. I went for the proverbial full tune-up including a tetanus shot. (Wow, that part really sucked. I'm not going to sugarcoat it at all. You feel it for 2-3 days, and my body sure felt it.) The good news is that all of my vitals are normal and test results were negative. So let this serve as a reminder: Be sure to get a check-up especially if you're getting up there in age like I am.

I was hoping to stream an episode before an upcoming trip but that won't happen, unfortunately. I realized that I really hadn't kept up on any retro gaming news and world records, and I'd rather get back into the swing of things before getting back on Twitch. I had to put the MGL aside (I started off well but would have likely faded given the list of games chosen for this quarter, but I was having a lot of fun).

I'm glad to see that atari.io is still up and running smoothly and that the community here remains positive. I look forward to joining a Wednesday night chat in the near future.

    Marco

      RickR

      Good to see you back!

The shingles vaccine did the same to me.  Dose 1 was no problem.  But dose 2 knocked me on my rear end for a day.  Had to call in sick to work.  But totally worth it to get that clean bill of health.

  23. 2nd earthquake in as many days. They're comparing it to the Northridge earthquake (1994).

  24. It's always when you least expect it / don't plan for it...

I got in some MAME Punch-Out before I had to step out for dinner. I ended up with a new PB of 1.4MM. I reached Fight #50, something I hadn't accomplished in 3 decades. Go figure.

    1. Marco1019

      Marco1019

I'm up to 1.7MM, having won close to 70 fights. I'll have to improve on that average if I'm ever going to make a run at the scoring WR.

  25. Work has ramped up since the beginning of May and my gaming/streaming has slowed. However, I'm back to playing Raid on Bungeling Bay for the C64. What do you think of the cover art?

Great game. That box art doesn't do it justice.
