@socrates63 I was last laid off in March 2014. A good friend of mine pointed out that unemployment is one of the few times (if only time) when we can truly relax. Since your first project involves food, you'll be able to enjoy this time even more lol.

Going that long without being a layoff victim is rare these days. (I have experience a layoff while living on both coasts.) I hope AT&T provided a severance package especially given your years of service.
 
It'll feel weird at first but you'll be able to devote time and energy to other home/personal projects before returning to the workforce.

I'll echo Rick's sentiment, I'm sorry to hear but sounds like you have the right attitude. Oftentimes these unexpected changes lead to new and better opportunities. 

Thanks, Rick. It’ll be interesting to see where this leads. I certainly never expected to land in HBO when I did, and it was a fun ride working for an entertainment media company. It’s not that anymore since AT&T bought it, so I don’t have much sentiment about leaving. 

My manager and his entire team got pink slips, so that’s good(?) for selfish reason 😆 If it was just me then that would have hurt. 

Sadly, it's been the way of our industry.  Re-orgs, consolidations, purchases, etc.  Don't take it personally.  Sometimes it just happens. 
 

I'm sorry to hear it.  But it sounds like you have the right attitude.  I'm sure you'll find a perfect fit.

Just woke up to this, sad, but he did announce back in March 2019 he was suffering stage 4 pancreatic cancer, that and he was 80 when he passed so not unexpected. RIP a great Canadian! 😢
