I finally have a couple of days to relax and play as many games as possible. 🙂 This is absolutely one of the best games for the 7800.

greenween reacted to Justin in In 6th Grade I Wrote My Own Atari Strategy Guide. Here it is:
I’d like to share something very special with you guys. This is an Atari Strategy Guide I began writing in 6th Grade. It's all true. Atari I/O started on paper!
I was 11 years old when I made this. If you flip through the pages of the Strategy Guide and squint hard enough, you’ll recognize similarities with our Atari I/O Blog posts, particularly the game reviews that I do with BTB.
I thought you guys might think this is cool to see. I’ve been talking with @btbfilms76, @Atari Creep and @Gianna about my days collecting Atari games in the early '90s, how some of the most interesting stuff in my collection are documents from Atari, and what it was like trying to do all this before the internet. My conversations with them inspired me to share this as a PDF for all of you to enjoy. It’s more of a sentimental curiosity than anything really useful, but if you read closely you’ll find a helpful tip or two in there.
It's also a bit of an artifact from a pre-internet Justin who way back then was just as fascinated and enthralled with the World of Atari as I am today. This little Strategy Guide was absolutely the beginning of what would become my Atari website and would evolve in time to become Atari I/O. It really did start on paper.
I scanned the original documents and compiled them in a PDF file as a digital recreation of the real thing. I also added a Table of Contents to help you find your way around, and a Preface which you see above.
I didn't get very far with the guide, but the games covered include these 7800 titles:
FATAL RUN JINKS ACE OF ACES SCRAPYARD DOG CENTIPEDE The Strategy Guide also contains 2600/7800 cartridge price lists and customer service ordering forms from Atari Corp. from 1993.
If you manage to make out my sloppy 6th Grade handwriting, you'll notice that I get some details wrong. I began writing this Strategy Guide before the internet was available to me. Digging up historical info on Atari, we had to get resourceful. Whatever I knew I learned from my own experience of piecing together historical details from Atari catalogs and game boxes, checking out books from the school library, talking with @Video 61 for hours at a time, or calling Atari directly and speaking with Geraldine at the front desk. "Hi, is Jack there?"
In a way it’s sad that Jack Tramiel’s Atari didn’t give us nice things like expansive Strategy Guides, big beautiful fold-out maps, a magazine as cool as Nintendo Power, or the type of immersive games that would’ve created a huge demand for things like this. Little 6th Grade me took it upon myself to make this, because what else was I supposed to do? I was still excited about Atari, I wanted to share Atari with as many people as I could. I don’t know who I was writing this for at the time, friends I guess, but apparently I was writing it for you guys. It just had to sit in a time capsule first.
⬇️ The PDF is attached below. ⬇️ I hope you guys enjoy this glimpse into the beginning of Atari I/O!

I made another attempt using MAME for xbox. Unzipped the file, transferred it all to drive E and still nothing. Good luck Rick!

I did. I wouldn't say a bunch of files though, maybe 8.This is an SNES emulator I'm trying now. I failed with NES and MAME also. MAME is the only reason I really want to get this working.

Using Firezilla I'm able to send the emulator to the xbox E\Emulators\directory, but when I check the xbox it does't appears in "emulators". I can find it using "file explore" but get nothing from there. Maybe I'll just walk away for a bit and try again another day. LOL

And you unzipped the emulator file first, so it's copying a directory with a bunch of files within?

Maybe I'll try to do mine to see how far I can get.  This weekend maybe.  This quarantine sucks, I still have to work -- harder and longer than ever no less.

I’ve been reading the forums for about a year.    I love Breakout on 2600, as well as 7800 Ms. Pac-Man and Food Fight. 🍦 I live in South Florida close to Justin, currently I’ve been very into playing my Nintendo Switch (mainly Pokémon!), and I have a dachshund named Sally. 🐾   It’s great to be here joining in things and I hope to get to know all of you a little better soon.   😊

I've never done it, but I think this is how it is done:
Download the emulator you want. Unzip the file on the computer.  It should create a folder like "SNES" with a bunch of folders and files underneath.  Put your ROM files in the ROMS folder of this unzipped folder Now filezilla that SNES (or whatever) folder over to your XBOX E\Emulators\ directory Reboot the xbox, go to programs, emulators, and you should be able to run that new emulator. Did you make it this far?  Does the emulator show under the programs, emulators menu?

If anyone can help I would be very thankful. I bought an Xbox a few months back and finally did a soft mod it. Everything went smooth, but I cannot figure out how to get emulators to work on it.I'm using Filezilla on my pc and the xbox shows up and I keep trying but failing. I've searched youtube and everywhere else.

I've followed the tutorials and have been able to add emulators and roms to the xbox. I just can't get them to do anything. I can't get the emulators to even open.I'm sure there's something somewhat simple I'm doing wrong.I spent hours trying yesterday, getting a little frustrated. 🙂

Here's a question for all the original owners who were there on Day 1: Did you think Atari 2600 Pac-Man was bad when you first got it? Was it a huge disappointment out of the box? Or did you enjoy the heck out of playing that game and only later came to realize the rest of the world thought it was bad?
Genuinely curious to see if you guys had varying experiences and there was a bit of a "Mandela Effect" going on, or if everybody was on the same page from Day 1 saying "It stinks!"

Welcome to our 76th Squad Challenge! We're celebrating National Pac-Man Day this month with a few rounds of Ms. Pac-Man on the Atari 7800! Ms. Pac-Man was one of the first titles released on the 7800 and a must-have for any Atari 7800 aficionado. We're still keeping things light and breezy as we deal with this Coronavirus situation and get back into the swing of things in the forums, so kick back, relax, and put on a nice easy game of 7800 Ms. Pac-Man. I hope you guys are ready for a new season of High Score Squad and good luck to everybody participating!

NOTE: Upcoming Squad Challenges will be simple and straightforward until the site issues are completely resolved. We'll dive deeper with some fun Squad Challenges this summer. Thanks for playing, and enjoy!

I totally get what you're saying Justin.  I remember not really trying Mario 64 until after some of the 3D computer classics like Descent, Wolfenstein, Doom, Magic Carpet, etc.  So I'm kind of in the same boat.  The game itself is a technical marvel, but the gameplay seems a little dry and maybe even tired.
Still, it's the presentation that makes the game a masterpiece.  The opening screen with Mario's giant 3D head and voice is still amazing to see.  Nintendo knew how to dress-up their games, that's for sure.

I never really liked Mario 64 and I think it's because of Cybermorph. I'm not arguing that Mario 64 is a bad game. I understand, clinically, that it's a terrific game because the majority says so. But it never did much to excite me. It's made the top of "Best Video Games Ever" lists, both today and back when it was new. It bores me. And I remain unmoved.
Part of the reason for this may be because I've always viewed "Mario games" from Donkey Kong onward as 2-D platformers. It felt like an odd choice to place Mario in a 3-D environment, much in the same way that it felt like an odd choice to make a dark, live-action Mario movie with Bob Hoskins as Mario and Dennis Hopper as King Koopa. I saw Mario 64's 3-D world as a gimmick or a party trick intended to showcase Nintendo's new hardware. I can't blame them for that choice, but I feel the same now as I did then that I would've enjoyed a N64 Mario game with really beautiful 2-D graphics, as opposed to the 3-D environment we were given. Super Mario Bros. U is a more contemporary example of this idea. I'm not here to throw shade at Mario 64. It's interesting to me that I was mostly alone in my ambivalence toward this game and am now realizing why. I like Nintendo 64. I thought GoldenEye was an incredible game when it first came out and view it as a must-have classic today. But Mario 64 to me is like Combat on the Atari 2600. It's a donor cart.
Ultimately though, I blame Cybermorph for my Mario 64 boredom. Skylar did Mario in. I'm just coming to this realization tonight. Mario running around in circles collecting coins bored me TO DEATH. Maybe because by the time Mario 64 was released I had already been running around 3-D worlds collecting gold pods in Cybermorph. I was graduating into my 4th year of this 3-D nonsense when the rest of the normie-world experienced it for the first time with Mario 64. So I understand their reaction. I had long lost my 3-D virginity by then and Mario 64 couldn't excite me. Blast you, Skylar!
I was one of the fortunate few who had the Jaguar in November, 1993 before most anyone else outside of Atari had laid their paws on it. I really enjoyed Cybermorph when it first came out. It was a different kind of game and felt like a more mature step up from what I was playing on SNES and Genesis. It's also the first game I ever had with a fully-realized 3-D world where we could fly anywhere and do anything. Going from 16-Bit 2-D games into a 3-D landscape like Cybermorph, you could see how that would be really, really attractive. We could not have games like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid and Mario 64 without games like Cybermorph. You have to start somewhere.

I had this one way back in 95? maybe, I had forgotten about it until the last time it was a squad challenge. Ordered a copy, but didn't get it in time for the challenge. Hooked the SNES up just for this and I'm glad I did. Great game and I'm going to keep playing for awhile.
