Fair Play: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, Photoshop, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater.
More: To review detailed rules on how to play, please visit the High Score Squad page here: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/1219-high-score-squad-how-to-play/
Welcome to our 46th Squad Challenge! This time we're playing the Nintendo release of Tetris for the NES. I was temped to go with Tetris for Game Boy, we might do that another time. Should Atari have found a way to bring Atari arcade Tetris home to the Atari 7800? Oh, what could have been! Tetris on the NES and Game Boy became some of the most iconic games of the 8-bit era. Let's see how far you can get. Enjoy!
NOTE: Sometime in December we will be playing our first SNES game in a Squad Challenge. Get ready!

You know I tried playing this on Stella with my 8 bit do pad, and I couldn’t crack 5000! I do much better with a TAC-2 on a real console.

Starbuck66 reacted to dauber in The Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast
Hi, friends! Episode 47 is out a day early on accounta I'm starting Extra Life tonight. (I'm trying to bring "on accounta" back into the vernacular. And "swell." And calling people "mac.") This installment takes a look at unquestionably the longest-awaited product for our beloved 7800!

That sounds brutal! I will be playing a lot of Turbografx-16 with some other console stuff mixed in.

BTW, there's a guy in Wisconsin who, for his Extra Life campaign, will be doing a 24-hour marathon of Track & Field. I told him he needs to post "before" and "after" pictures of his fingers.

So I'm not sure how many forum members are planning on participating in Extra Life this year, but I thought I would start a thread so people can share their donation pages and give members an opportunity to donate!
In case you're not familiar with Extra Life, gamers volunteer to play for 24 hours in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals to raise money to help sick kids in need. This is the first year I'm participating directly in the event, but in the past I've donated to Ferg's EL as well as others and have enjoyed watching their live streams of gaming marathons
Marathon weekend is this upcoming weekend, November 3rd. Some players play for 24 hours straight starting November 3rd, however I'm electing to split my 24 hours up into two shifts from 8AM to 8PM Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th. I also plan on having a live stream, internet connection permitting, but if I can't stream live I'll at least try to record the marathon and post it to Youtube later.
My goal for this year is 500 dollars, and I've got a ways to go for my goal, so any amount anyone can spare will help! The link to my donation page is below. Thanks!

I'm extra-lifing too! I'm going to do some home gaming Friday after work. On Saturday I'll be at Underground Retrocade in West Dundee, IL the entire time it's open (11am - 1am), taking breaks for lupper and visits to the tinkle pit (so I'm estimating gaming for 13 hours), then more home gaming on Sunday. (I just can't do a straight 24 hours - I have to break it up!)
Last weekend someone beat my Underground Retrocade house high on Ms. Pac-Man Turbo. My high: 760,000 (foiled by the machine reset bug!)...the guy who beat my score got something like 885,000 and also was a victim of the dreaded reset bug. (He played another one earlier and didn't get the reset bug but did get the upside-down-rendered screen.) The reason my score was relatively low I most likely attribute to missing a lot of monsters. I practiced some grouping strategies, so I'm going to start working on re-claiming my place at the top. I'll also be trying to improve my TG record on Jr. Pac-Man Turbo.
At home I'm going to try to re-claim my Atari 7800 Asteroids Deluxe TG record. Somebody beat my record by only a few hundred points!
I'll be streaming as much of my gaming as possible at twitch.tv/piefactorysean
My hospital of choice: Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.
My goal, just like with Starbuck66, is $500.

Starbuck66 reacted to dauber in Games your parents liked
My mother never wanted anything to do with video games (although she did insist that I join her in a game of Mr. Do! some time in the '90s when we were waiting for a table at a restaurant; don't know what came over her!) but often my dad would play some Atari stuff with me. He's VERY left-handed, but the CX-40 is wired for right-handed people, so he'd only play games that didn't require a fire button - usually Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man. (He actually brought that up recently! "I was getting addicted to that!" he said.) He'd also play Super Breakout, as he had no problem wrapping his right hand around the paddle to operate the button.

Starbuck66 reacted to RickR in Thrift Store Finds
A bunch of recent finds from a variety of sources.
Coleco Pac Man came from a toy show (see my post in the "Tabletops" forum if you can help with replacing those missing stickers). The Atari carts came via a trade with nosweargamer American Chopper 2 came from goodwill (I know...it's probably terrible...but I like yelling. My money says this game has a lot of yelling) Boxed Blue Max came from a facebook purchase. One of my favorite games of all-time. Getting a complete copy is very exciting for me.

Starbuck66 got a reaction from Rocker67 in Games your parents liked
Atari my dad was into Super Breakout, Battlezone, and Combat. He had high score competitions with my grandfather (a career Army man and Vietnam vet) on Battlezone... I was too young to remember them but from what I was told they were pretty intense!
Later when we got the NES I borrowed Solar Jetman from a friend, and my dad instantly fell in love with it! It was so bad I could barely get time on the game (even though I was much better at it than he was :-P). We went out and got a copy a week after I gave it back to my friend, and we hardly ever bought NES games, I always just rented them, so that was a big deal. My dad LOVED Tetris, both on the NES and Game Boy, and also Choplifter II on the Game Boy.
On the PC he was big into Sid Meier’s Civilization, especially CivNet and Civ II. He’d play those games for hours! And of course MS Solitare games on the Entertainment Packs; he liked Tri Peaks the best I think.
My dad was quite the gamer for a long time, until his MS got too bad for him to play anymore. He passed away several years back from complications related to it, but if it weren’t for him I don’t know if I would have had as big of a passion for video games as I do today.

Starbuck66 got a reaction from RickR in Sears Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
I bought two different Atari games at Sears in the late 80’s: a silver label Space Invaders and Skateboardin. It was one of the few places I could still find 2600 games.
