  1. How cool! We discovered and solved a little mystery here! Nice job and thank you for the info. I went upstairs and got the real cartridge we have, and it's the version you describe with the football like score (example 7 - 0). So I don't have a special Famicom adapter version. It's the emulator ROM version I have that's the Japanese one. Well, I think we learned a little nugget of fun here. I need to find the international ROM for emulator.
  2. Well, I am playing an emulator. Maybe my ROM is hacked? I'll go find a real cart and take a look at that one.
  3. If I start a new game, it shows 30:00. That's just the in-between game attract mode.
  4. Say what? The 1 player game has a score.
  5. 22,020 is my score on 10 Yard Fight NES.
  6. Wow, they have a lot of games there for nice prices!
  7. The only blasphemy in football is talking back to your coach, son! Now go out there and win one for your fans! NES, shmem-ee-ess. DO IT!
  8. Coach RickR shows no mercy in a 62-3 victory.
  9. Hey! It's football season and Atari day. So play some football and post your results here. I was going to start with regular Atari Football, but it turns out my label is wapperjawed AND it's a two-player-only game. 10 yard penalty! So I'm going to give Realsports Football a try instead. Bonus - it's a 1988 Atari Corp version! I've printed out the play selection manual page. Let's do this! I'll post my score when I'm done. Who else is in?
  10. One more thing @Atari Creep, the weirdest thing about that guitar is that every single time I take it out in public, people ask "is it for sale?". I've been tempted a few times to sell and just get a nice new strat, but then I come to my senses. HELL NO! :)
  11. That Seahawks ending was pretty brutal. But let's be honest....their defense is TERRIBLE this year. Poor Russell Wilson has to carry a big load. Why'd they let Clowney go?
  12. I bought it from a pawn shop when I was my son's age or so (a LONG time ago). You have a good eye...it's a Silvertone, which was a Sears or Monkey Wards house brand and it has a build date of 1965 stamped inside. It has a beautiful sound, but it requires skinny fingers to play it well. I redid the electronics back then and touched up the body with black model paint. I'm glad young me didn't go too extreme, as I think it looks and sounds so cool all stock. You are right, and I'm not really mad. I know this COVID bullsh@t is hard on the kids and us parents. I just want that basic respect of ASKING before they take something. I think every parent knows this feeling.
  13. That stranglehold on the technology is one reason why Sony lost the war. VHS was more readily available for any manufacturer to make. Interestingly, the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD war ended in Sony's favor. Probably because they added the technology to the PS3 and also they went after the major movie studios more urgently.
  14. We have an addition to the list! @Willie! has been inserted after @nosweargamer! And it didn't even goof up my travel route.
  15. My son "borrowed" the guitar. I got mad at him -- not for borrowing it -- but for not asking first. But we had a little talk and now all is well.
  16. Yeah, man, that is an incredible score! Great job. And also.....GO SEAHAWKS!
  17. PS - I'm glad you found some good junk to take! I always sweat this out a little. Several of those games are from past Atari.io high score challenges. Dr. Mario, Tetris, California Games (albeit for Lynx, not NES). I like those a lot and I hope you do too.
  18. @TrekMD sent pictures of what he took to me, so I am posting them here. There's that bottle opener I was telling y'all about!
  19. 48730. Sunday morning = a good time to focus.
  20. Here's another Atari 8-bit game that is really good, yet I always have trouble remembering the name. It's a Pac-Man clone, except the screen is much larger, and the section of maze you are on is magnified. The game has speech, and a cool rendition of "La Cucaracha". It took me some searching, but the name is.....Tumble Bugs http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-tumble-bugs_5548.html

  22. This topic came up during our Wed night chat. I thought it would make a good post. Have you ever had a hard time remembering and finding a video game from your youth? Here's my story. Back during the video game crash, I remember purchasing a game cart in the Kay-Bee clearance bin for the Atari 800XL. I remember playing the game a little bit and absolutely hating it. One of the dumbest games I'd ever seen. It was a game that had to do with marching bands. And I don't remember what became of it. It probably got tossed or sold at some point. Well, the 800XL got stored away in the late 80's. It wasn't until I discovered emulation many years later that I got back into what was now "retro" gaming. And I could search for and find all my old game ROMS on the internet. All but that weird marching band game. Searches turned up nothing. Eventually, I started to question if I had imagined the whole thing. Did it ever even exist? But then...just this last week...I saw an ebay listing....and BOOM! Do you see it? Aha! The problem was that I always searched for the word "marching", and the game didn't have that word in the title. It's "Halftime Battlin' Bands"! HOLY COW! IT DID EXIST! And looking up the gameplay on youtube also confirmed my initial assessment -- this game was TERRIBLE!
  23. RickR does not steal. He borrows with style.
  24. You might see if there's a setting for the vertical size in the "setup" menu of the TV. Unfortunately, sometimes you need the original remote to get there. You might also search for a technical manual on-line for that set. Sometimes, they hide the little setting screws behind tiny holes in the back of the case. Good luck! Looks like it will make a great gaming TV if you can fix it. I love the flat tube.
  25. Or I could snap them in half and use as a straight razor!
