  1. Good luck, and thanks for doing it for charity.
  2. Don't be shy! Post your score. It took me a while to get the hang of it. It seems like the controls are wonky. Like you can't press diagonal down at all...if you want to duck, you press straight down only. And you're right, it looks similar to the old Jungle King/Hunt graphics and color-wise. I suspect this one came first.
  3. 6950. Getting a little better. Duck and jump are important.
  4. My eBay purchase has arrived.  A complete NES Everdrive!

This is an SD cartridge, isn't it? Nice purchase, btw. :O)

Yes.  Just throw ROMS on the SD card, and then pick them from a menu on the NES.  A real space saver.

The next one on my list is one for the N64.

Cool! I would like to get the Jaguar Game Drive, but it's too expensive for me at the moment. SainT wants to get CD support on it as well. That is still experimental. :O)

  5. I'm going to clothespin a few on my bike so it makes a motorcycle sound. So I can compete with @Atari Creep's Honda scooter.
  6. You took some AWESOME items. And, as usual, your presentation is excellent. I'm so glad you found stuff you really like. It's tough, though, right? That Tomy dragster thingy is probably my favorite of what you took out. I saw Willie's review of that and look forward to yours too. It reminds me a lot of a drag-racing game I used to play on my Android tablet. Sounds like you and @chas10e have the handoff set up, so I won't bother you guys with a PM about that.
  7. @socrates63, what kind of controller are you using? Did you have to change the configuration for that?
  8. Those "Drake" games I mentioned are really named "Uncharted". They seem to have a very "Lara Croft" feel to them IMO.
  9. I'm in the same boat as you on the PS3. My kids have one that I could easily commandeer (since they've moved on to PS4 and Switch). But it intimidates me. I think many people really loved the Batman Arkham games. Maybe that's a good place to start. I also remember my kids loving a series of Indiana Jones style game, whose name escapes me. Drake Stone. Drake Josh? I don't remember.
  10. Don't feel bad! This is our first MAME challenge. And I think it's clear that the platform is a mess. Too many different versions of MAME, emulator front-ends, and ROM sets make it hard to find consistency for all of us. Check to see if you have "Taito Legends" on any of your other systems (PS2, XBOX, etc) as the game is on there. Hopefully, this won't be the last time we do a challenge on an arcade game. But we'll need to find a better way to make it accessible for everyone. Maybe one of the games readily available on the most common compilations or plug & play units? Ideas are always welcome.
  11. That was me plan. laddie. I am going to agree with you on the third party light bar....it stinks. I'll have to find an OEM replacement.
  12. Good tip, and I did clean the lens with alcohol and a q-tip. This will be the fourth Wii I've found broken in this way. Our original (the one I bought for our boys new), a friend who asked me to fix his son's, and my brother's were the first three. Disk spins, but discs won't read. In all cases, unfixable unless you replace the drive.
  13. Update: I was able to get the system to load discs properly. There is a plastic "scissors" assembly on the top of the drive that was jammed. I unjammed it and gave it a little lubrication and it worked again. Also of note -- there was a ton of debris inside that was most likely corn chip crumbs! Sadly, the drive won't read discs. Pretty typical for old Wii's. I could replace the entire drive I guess, but it just isn't worth it. Maybe I'll just hack it and make an emulation station of it. On the bright side, those two games do work just fine on my good Wii. SMB is kind of scratched, so I may end up polishing that one.
  14. I got a pretty neat birthday gift from one of my kids.  A new Timex Pac Man watch.

I need to adjust the watch band to fit my noodle arm.  And maybe read the manual to learn if it has any special features.

The only special feature is that it plays the Pac Man theme as the alarm.  No game built in.  Still, it looks sharp, and it's special because son #2 got it for me.

I had no idea this existed.

It fits nicely.  The Pac-Man theme can be played by pushing the upper right button.  It's best described as "irritating".  I can use that to annoy others.  A+

      StormSurge

That is so cool! What a great gift!

I see the ads all of the time. I'm surprised you can't play a simple version of the game on there.

      Regardless, very cool!!

  15. I will try disassembly now, thanks for the link. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a coin in mine! The good news is that I do not have "New Super Mario Bros." or "Wii Party". So no matter what, I have two new games and a nice working controller set out of the deal.
  16. Hey, you are NOT alone. My main Wii is the white kind, but my "backup" Wii is the black vader with Gamecube ports. Vader-Wii High Five! This one is my third, and I think it's the newer "non-GC-compatible" type.
  17. An update: It works! (I used my composite cable). It does NOT have gamecube controller or memory card ports. The lightbar works too once I found a cable to charge it with. The controller works. BUT....it made a horrible grinding sound when it turns on. Eject button does nothing but make more grinding sounds. Using needlenose pliers, I carefully pulled out one....two...THREE discs! Whoops! But now it won't load discs. They get pulled in, but not quite all the way before being ejected. There is either something still stuck in there or some damage done by the three discs. Any ideas?
  18. Hey all: Someone on a local Facebook "freecycle" group gifted me a Wii they bought a while ago, couldn't get working, and just set aside. I thought I'd share the process of figuring out what I've got here. First of all, here's the sack left for me on the porch. And here are the contents. I can see potential issues straight away. That's not an OEM infrared bard. Wireless rechargeable? I'll bet that thing doesn't work. And also component cables. I don't want to mess with those (although I'm sure the picture will be nicer). My plan: I'll borrow the light bar and composite cable from my current Wii and see if the thing works.
  19. No particular reason really. I figure the way Windows updates every week, there must be Wii updates as well. I think all I have on there is NES, SNES, and 2600. I'll have to figure out how to add more.

    3DS Help

Well between the two of us, we have favorite colors accounted for. I bought that Nintendo lunchbox for one of my kids years ago. And then many years later, they decided they didn't want it anymore. So it's MINE! Ha ha ha. I also "bought" one of their DS's when they wanted to sell it to get a 3DS. Years later: "Dad, can I have my old DS back?" Of course, here you go. No charge.

    3DS Help

"Why you no play me more often, eh?"
  22. That's great news, Harry. I may need a Wii bit of help. Is it possible to "update" the wii emulation? I hacked my Wii years ago and am still running the old versions from back then.

    3DS Help

It looks like the ports are under $6 on ebay. Here's an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Power-Jack-Charger-Charging-Port-Socket-Part-For-NEW-Nintendo-3DS-XL-2015/402361903552?hash=item5daea369c0:g:ppMAAOSwyxhfNiOB My guess is that it's a lot of work to disassemble the 3DS to get to it.
