The trees here tell their own story.  Some grew, some are gone.  So much to see in these two pictures.

Do not apologize, man.  Life and feelings are complicated things.  Sounds like you had a difficult childhood.  But your kindness and decency is fully intact.

The 5200 version is great, and 4th place is nothing to sneeze at.  Give the top 3 a play if you get the chance...they are excellent!  The ColecoVision version will blow you away.

Doom would be great.  It would be interesting to compare to the PS1 and N64 versions, or even the 32X.

@atarilbc Three suggestions for you to throw into the hat:

    - Ultra Vortek
    - Raiden
    - Pitfall

@rick - The FPS games on the Jaguar were Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Alien Vs. Predator. I'll put Doom in the hat unless you would rather see a write up of one of the other two.

I don't have any suggestions because I'm not familiar at all with the Jaguar line-up.  Are there games that also were made for the other systems of the day?  Like Doom or Quake?  If yes, I vote for one of those.

Cybermorph is one of the few games I've actually played on a real Jaguar....and I thought "what's all the fuss about?".  Thanks for your honest review.

I never noticed how slow the NES one is, but you're right, it does play slower than the Coleco one. I still find myself liking it better than the rest due to the layout being closer to the arcade aspect ratio, but if I ever get a multicart for my Coleco that may change...

I think my biggest concern with multicarts is that they cut down on collecting for the system. I collect to collect, but I also collect to play the games, and if I can play every game on one cart, it makes collecting the games lose some of its point for me.

I just got an Everdrive N8 for my birthday, and already my NES collecting has ground to a halt. However, I also got an Everdrive with my TG-16 that I got for Christmas last year, and that has been a godsend given the insane prices of Turbo games, not to mention the converter I would need if I wanted to play PC Engine titles.

I've thought about getting a Harmony Cart, but I'm really worried it will kill my quest to collect almost every 2600 game. It would be nice to be able to play the rarer stuff though...

I think what it boils down to is, are you a collector, are you a player, are you both, and what is your budget? Multicarts tend to cost a lot up front, but save so much money long term.

A few more classic versions you could add to the rankings:

    1983 - Apple II
    1983 - PC/IBM
    1984 - Fujitsu FM-7 (Japanese home computer)
    1984 - MSX

There's also the unreleased 1981 "Muncher" for the Bally Astrocade.  It's Pac-Man, just with a changed name due to Bally only having the arcade rights to the game.  If you want to stretch to 1991, there's the Game Boy version as well.

Put me down as another vote for the 5200 being my favorite.  I'm biased because it's what I grew up with, of course.  The one big issue I always had with my copy was a bug in the higher key levels where the energizer doesn't behave as it should.  You eat one, the ghosts turn blue, and they never turn back as long as you leave them alone!  As a kid I didn't realize that this was a bug, although I certainly thought it was strange.  It wasn't until much later that I learned that Atari fixed it in later production runs of the game.

FWIW, IMO a scrolling Pac-Man is sacrilege and/or a work of the devil.

Haven't tried any of those versions, but I will see what I can do there.  It will be fun to try them!

One thing I should note that I think is kind of weird...not a single version I've tried accurately copies the arcade version's "waka-waka" munching sound very well.  It's such a signature of the game, yet no home version got it right.

I always thought this game had great graphics and I love the speed of the game.  But the limited firing options just don't cut it for me.  And once I lose that center gun, the game usually ends pretty quickly.

Right on the money regarding the Imagic packaging.

Ironically, I think a lot of the later releases weren't made by Atari, but rather by GCC or other outside contractors.  If they had focused on such quality earlier (for example on Defender and Pac Man), would it have prevented the crash?
