slobu reacted to Arenafoot in Homebrew Titles that had 100 copies?
Probably all of the heavy hitters in the AA store..... Stay Frosty 2 (180+ 1st run), Halo 2600 (150 copies 1st run), Syncart, Lady Bug (LE- 1st run), Space Rocks, Medieval Mayhem, Zippy..... (definitely known 100 copies: Another Adventure hack, Boulder Dash, FPF 2017 hack, Lasercade, L.E.M.)  Also alot of repros and prototypes were printed in 100+ copies too: Extra Terrestrials repro, Actionauts proto, Bugs Bunny proto, Combat Two proto, Looping proto, RealSports Basketball proto, Snow White proto
AA store has a live best sellers list at: https://atariage.com/store/index.php?l=product_list&c=bestsellers but Al doesn't give out actual numbers.
Hope this info helps you out.

I wouldn't do 100 copies to start out. Average is 10-30 copies. You can look at my comprehensive Atari 2600 homebrew list and do a search (Ctrl + F) and see the "xx copies" of said titles.

So, for my own personal interest (as well as my own game making reasons) I'm wondering how many new Atari 2600 games started at 100 copies.
I'm not sure I can plunk down for that many boards at a time being a one man game development house.  It sounds like a lot compared to other homebrew runs I've seen.
What's the average?  What have y'all seen in the past?

Wow back in 2011 I did this unboxing for the Coleco Gemini that I received from The GoldenAxe on atariage.
I was about 30 pounds heavier as well lol.

Didn't know the Super Pitifall link was down.  Will look into an alternate.
Bacon Blast was the physical release of BLT Blast.  A vendor needed some extra cash so I authorized him to make physical copies.  I tried the digital thing with BLT Blast.
Destiny was sort of an experiment / proto C@tacombs of Chaos.  I found a technique to split rooms into 3 parts which allowed me to mix and match saving space.
Tunnels & Trolls is an authorized RPG I have license for.  It was / is meant to be a 256k ROM title.  I'm never quite %100 percent confident that people can physically make the cart so it's kind of been in limbo.  I may go sega genesis on this instead.
The Walking Dead was a one shot cartridge I wanted signed at a convention.  Me and Neo Games came up with a better game idea and Zombie Road Kill was born.

As for the future I've got 3 new titles I should be working on.  Been slow going due to some personal rough patches.

My best guess is that less than 5% of the library would qualify, so it may depend on your definition of rare, but to me that would be pretty rare when over 95% of yours games have some form of scoring.

Crypts of Chaos does have scoring, but Strawberry Shortcake is a good one, although it target younger children and has a pseudo timer in some variations with the sun.

I was just curious what games went against the grain during the original run of the VCS/2600.

So far, what I have is the following:
Adventure 3-D Tic-Tac Toe Checkers Dragonstomper Maze Craze Riddle of the Sphinx Strawberry Shortcake: Musical Match-Ups Swordquest Earthworld Swordquest Fireworld Swordquest Waterworld Video Checkers Video Chess Let me know if you can think of any others, or if one of the above games does have a form of scoring.

Don't think it's as rare as we all may think.  I guess my example would be Crypts of Chaos and Strawberry Shortcake: Musical Match-ups.

Why no homebrew?  Is it too common on the new games us modern developers are making?

This game was placed in the last Retro Junk box by Rowsdower70 (Thank you, sir!)

I finally took the time to really play it, and thought I'd give my impression here.

The game itself is labeled as #17 of 20, and signed by Joe Grisaffi (one of the designers and director of the film) and was made in 2013. I have not seen the film this game is based on, but it appears to be available for free on-line, and I'm going to check it out. I also don't know if only 20 copies of this cartridge were created. If so, that's a shame, as the game is really good. It came with a manual which is simple and well done.

The game has a really nice opening screen with great music. You start as a naked guy who has to find his armor. Once you find it, you can use your sword to hack up 4 victims that you have to search for. Each time you kill a victim, a policeman is spawned. They shoot you, and you are unable to kill them. After the 4th victim is killed, the goal becomes to find a character named "Marla" and drag her into a castle. Once inside, you must defeat a Boss Queen by shooting away at her shields and then the queen herself.

The game reminds me a lot of "Haunted House" -- lots of searching and exploring, while avoiding the bad guys as best you can. I think it's really a lot of fun. It makes you want to keep playing until you can defeat at least one boss. The graphics are great, and there's no flicker at all.

    RickR's final grade: A

Anyone else have more info on this game, or an opinion on the gameplay?

I'm glad the lack of flicker got noticed.  I got to email Howard Scott Warshaw and tell him about the Yars Revenge-like effect when you beat the boss.

I think Joe and I have a deal where I can make some "developer" editions.  Though, I've been stuck in the mud with other projects.

I'll definitely check back here if people have more questions!

Got a new sega genesis game coming to the PRGE courtesy of Good Deal Games!

War in the Machine is an arcade shooter with a difference: you are one of two bases that launch fighter ships at enemies.  Each enemy is procedurally generated including its movement pattern.  The larger boss class enemy inherits the best rated movement pattern.  Although shields never regenerate the C button renders the base invulnerable (but prone.)
Should be available at the Portland Oregon Retro Gaming Expo and the Good Deal games storefront shortly.

Oh, and, if you have something like chromadepth glasses (think Crayola 3D glasses) then it's 3D
