  1. He was always getting into mischief wasn't he?
  2. I made a new discovery and I've updated a previous post giving pointers.
  3. I was reading my mission again and, if I was reading it right, was my pilot actually on the island?
  4. I died. I was not prepared or trained in submarine combat. I'll know better next time.
  5. I'm hoping the dot next to the island is my pilot.
  6. Here we go! A few pointers for those who try to play this game: Expect long play times as this is not a fast paced game If you can't get your sub to move make sure you are in Battery mode (press B on keyboard) as engines are used only for recharging the batteries and only when at the water surface Pressing [M] at anytime during game play will instantly change your mission. Make sure you want to change your mission before pressing that key. It will not ask and if you are in the middle of a mission when that key gets pressed you will start a new mission with whatever condition you are currently in. I haven't tried to do anything else yet other than try to rescue this stranded pilot. I will let you guys know if I'm successful or not. I dived 100 feet down to avoid detection and have rudders full speed. I'm heading east until I get to one of the two sections that could be sector 14. And my map. While looking in the manual I did find a map with sector numbers. Map coordinates: I hope this helps.
  7. I'm all setup and going to try to do the first mission it gives me. NOTE: Missions in this game are random! The heart of the game is to do as many missions as you can before you get completely destroyed. And from what I've read in the manual you can perform repairs and other things to stay in the game. In theory a single game could last indefinitely with improved skills. My first mission? I have to save a downed pilot. Switching to nighttime is easy. Just press TAB and click then press [3] to change Time of Day to 0. 1 is daytime. But where is sector 14? Ill let you guys know how it goes. I'll either be successful or come walking with my tail between my legs.
  8. Maybe combined efforts could help create a small guide for this game. Anyone interested in doing something like that? I know Justin likes things like that. It could be an Atari I/O exclusive.
  9. I am putting serious efforts in this game because it looks more detailed in game play than Silent Service. I just need to know how the map is coordinated. Maybe all if us can come up with a bit of a guide to this game to help others. Right now I just need help reading the map so I know where to go to work in my missions. The included instructions don't tell anything of the sort. So far I am liking the sort of slowness of the game as it is a nice break from the fast action stuff. I just really need to sit down and learn how to play it.
  10. I'm going to have to spend a lot of time with this game.
  11. I forget just how more unforgiving this version is compared to the 5200 version. It's amazing how much more difficult Atari made this one.
  12. So I'm basically trying to find fun in a game that really is not that great?
  13. Hi guys! I've been trying to figure out GATO for the XE computers. It loos like fun and so far I'm having some fun figuring out parts of it but I need a bit of help. I can't figure out how the map is sectioned and the instructions are no help. One of my missions is to rescue a downed pilot but he is going to drown before I get to him because I can't figure out where he is. Has anyone here played the game before and might know how to read the map? I need to learn how the map is sectioned. Any advise would be nice.
  14. Vanguard, be it the 2600 or 5200 port, has been my go to favorite on these two systems. Of course I'm in! The 2600 version does an amazing job. I have never seen nor played the actual arcade version...Atari has been the only systems I've played this game on.
  15. I got a lynx 2 in 1996. I traded in some old games for one unit with California Games, Joust, A.P.B., and MS Pac-Man.
  16. Could you imagine trying to explain that to a doctor? "Hey, Doc! My friend needs help." If I did that they'd probably be admitting me to the nut hut.
  17. Thank you. I was afraid I was going to have to take it to the E.R. and have a cast put on it. Lol. Pac-Man has a broken butt.
  18. And Galaxian had a few surprises. This game had been sealed until I opened it just before this post. That's a long time! Now on to what I found. I knew of the comic book. I've been trying to find the games that had those. This one makes two I have now but I have never seen the service contract form before. Nothing like that ever came with the 5200 games I got in the 1980s. What do you think, guys? Should I invest in protection for my 2600?
  19. Look at this guys. A brand new Pac-Man that's never been played. Very nice. I never realized the label art and box art to this game were different. I always thought that there were two variations.
  20. Hey guys. I have been enjoying discovering the games I recently picked up. But a couple of them for the 2600 raised a few questions and I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone might know. I'm going through the games, one at a time, to make sure they work. I'm also playing them. Two of the games I skipped were Ms. Pac-Man and Solaris because I already have boxed copies but I thought I would at least make sure they worked. Upon opening Ms. Pac-Man I found the game inserted upside down. When I took the game out I found the label a bit damaged. There's also a number handwritten on the box. Would anyone know what that number is for? Q*Bert has one as well on its box end. It also took some work getting Q*Bert out if his box. He was stuck like Chuck. I'm not complaining...on the contrary I'm having a lot of fun!
  21. That's cool! I tried to fix my Pac-Man's butt.
