  1. Man, I still play the GC and Wii Animal Crossing games. If you don't check in on those games on a regular basis it gets mad. I like both versions but the Wii one is my favorite.
  2. I get that image when I have a dirty cartridge which is why I was suggesting it as a first step.
  3. I see you are only using one game. Do you have a different game to try? Use rubbing alcohol and a q tip and clean the edge inside the cart opening to clean the metal contacts. Try the game again. It is possible your VCS is OK but your game went bad. It happens, these things are old. You have a really nice controller, though. Another simple fix is get an Emory board and gently rub the contacts in the cartridge port. If not cared for those pins can become corroded. Those are the simple steps I know how to do without taking the top off. Video 61's suggestions above I'd recommend as well.
  4. The A8 regardless of model has always had my interest. Commodore may have out sold Atari but Atari had more personality in my opinion. I never really stopped using an A8 of some kind.
  5. I had a dream one time where I was participating in an AIO squad challenge and my hardware died for no reason. No big deal and I go to a closet, open it up, and stacked from floor to ceiling was multiple Atari consoles all brand new in boxes, laying flat so more could be stacked in a single row. Other dreams are memories replaying of holiday mornings and birthdays I got game systems on. The one that really plays the most is when my dear grandmother put a 7800 under the tree. I never realized just how much that little console had a hold on me. I love my 5200, don't get me wrong, but I have a lot of good memories of the 7800.
  6. You probably already know this but I put all my 2600 ROMs in a subfolder in the location Stella. Atari Mania has a single file with every known 2600 game in it. I will go and get the link for you should you need it.
  7. I will have to find it for the 7800. So far I love the game. But, it's true, Crossbow I have never heard of until I started collecting video games a decade ago.
  8. I agree. Thank you all who participated in my all-time favorite 7800 game. I do hope everyone had fun. I had fun. I never made that high if a score in Asteroids ever so I accomplished something while learning more about this game. There is something that seems special about the 7800 from a technical standpoint. Stop and think about it a minute. The 7800 can access external RAM and audio from the cartridge port. Who said it had to be from a POKEY chip? It could have easily had been any kind of sound processor (Konami *cough cough*). A laserdisc player was said it could be connected to it to play games. Now THAT would have been cool to see. It could put at most 24 colors on the screen at once (8 palettes x 3 colors per palette is 24). It is a flexible system meaning it is not just limited to what it was given internally. Im pretty confident it could do a whole lot more. Its just no one has taken the effort to try or has tried but kept it hush hush. However, in the same breath, the 7800 is also a beast. Maria has to get her information upside down but she layers what you see on screen, it can access 48k before needing to bank switch, it has hidden potential.
  9. I'm a hunting down Rygar. I liked the NES version but the Lynx was true to the arcade game. It didn't make it into something it wasn't.
  10. You guys are correct. Sally is the 6502 and Maria is the GPU. What makes this 6502 a bit different is because Maria can halt the CPU while she fetches her display information from RAM. The 7800 is, without a doubt in my mind, the better of the two consoles when compared to the NES. The only time the CPU slows down is when TIA is accessed for any reason. Robotron is proof the 7800 can handle a lot at once. Sounds? From TIA? She is very capable of generating awesome sounds when allowed time to do so. Need proof? Robotron has excellent sound as does Ms. Pac-Man. Asteroids even throws in a few extra sound bits. Even though it was designed by GCC the 7800 is every bit Atari at heart. It has character and is well dressed. It's unfortunate mishap is it became a foster child with parents who didn't care about it at all. If Warner would have stayed in board things might have been a whole lot different for it. It did need something fresh like the NES got and unfortunately failed in that department. BUT...it did fill a void, it cost less overall than the NES, games were much cheaper for it, and it was the only console to get Pole Position II and a killer Asteroids. Try playing Robotron on NES hardware. I bet it would suffer. @RickR I would love to learn assembly. I am learning C fairly well, though, and I come from decades of BASIC programming.
  11. Im after Ace of Aces for both XE and 7800. But GATO is interesting. It's a shame the 7800 version got canned. It would have been neat to see what it looked like.
  12. I have had this game called Crossbow in my collection for a while now. It is for the XE computers. Tonight, I played it for the first time. Keep in mind that I have never played this game before let alone heard of it. How did I do? I got 478,000 points. I have no clue if that is good or bad because it doesn't take long to start racking up points in this game. Did I enjoy the game? Oh yes! I even played a second game but did not do as well. I have yet to discover how to reach the Evil Master. But I have to admit that this is a really nice piece of software. The graphics look really good, especially the environments. The sounds are good and I swear the friends dying is almost digitized. I believe this is one of the most active light gun games I have ever played on any console. Well...almost. Gumshoe on the NES required a lot of trigger pulling as well but on the Atari this one is easily one of the more trigger-happy games on the system. That I'm aware of. One characteristic aspect if the game that I find a bit odd is the cartridge design. I use to seeing the small gray ribbed edges. The Crossbow cartridge is different. Then again it might have done that way because of the XE computers and where their cartridge slots are. I use an XEGS so I tend to forget about the XE computer design. Regardless of the cartridge design it is probably one of the best light gun games on the system. Im glad to have it. Y'all need to play this one.
  13. I could honestly see Marble Madness being on the 7800. There's very little sound effects in the game. It's mostly music. Roadblaster could have been on it. If it could handle Pole Position then it could handle Roadblaster. Tetris, though? That game had so much controversy during those years I'm amazed it made it to any kind of game console. If it wasn't for Nintendo putting money where their mouth was and going on a secret trip to the Soviet Union we might not have seen Tetris at all. But I would have liked to see the game on the 7800.
  14. It's a real shame that the box designs didn't stick. I know why it didn't but that artwork would have sold the system and its library of games. It had flare! Something Warner Atari was best known for in my opinion. I absolutely love that artwork. The 7800 didn't reach my area's region until 1988 and without any advertising. It came and seemed to disappear just as quick. Trips back to the same store my first 7800 came from roughly a month later resulted in that store having nothing 7800 related. All 7800 stuff I found after were found in second hand stores.
  15. Im not going to spoil it for others but that game really deserves the number one spot. It really is well made.
  16. Why not? I'll try for it. See if I can get in that groove again.
  17. I really was in a trance of some kind. Best game I've played yet. 58,320.
  18. I have thought about replacing the labels on my loose 7800 games just to match those that Warner Atari would have made just to see what the would look like.
  19. I DID IT!! I cracked 20,000! I got 24,030 points. If this.game would have been the only game I would have received with my 7800 many moons ago I would have been happy. Im glad others are having fun with this one.
  20. AHHHHH!!! I was almost at 20,000 points. I got 18,140.
