  1. In a strange twist of fate, Warner owns those IPs now along wth Midway and Williams IPs. I also agree that the 5100 wouldn't solve anything. The controllers were the system's Achilles heel unfortunately. Those would have to be completely redesigned before a "5200 Flashback" would be of any interest. I personally did not have issues with them growing up but I can't overlook how many other 5200 owners did. I simply chalk it up that I was one of the lucky few. I also agree with Saber. It has to be very difficult to get approvals and that's if the IP owner agrees at all. But it is also not easy when more than one IP owner is involved. As an example remember Kids Incorporated? Ever wondered why that show has never seen a DVD release? Disney owns the rights to the shows but Sony owns the rights to the music and I believe there's also a third party involved as well. All of them would have to come to terms before a DVD could be released. The same goes with video games. I received a Contra collection for Xbox for Christmas. Great compilation but somehow Konami is emulating Nintendo systems. A few of the games are NES and game boy games.
  2. I dont think Buck Rogers is but at times it feels like it is.
  3. Has anyone else noticed the inconsistent use of plastic and metal slide switches on these Jr models?
  4. I still think it would be awesome if the 5100's motherboard could be reverse engineered and produced. I'd buy one. I'm sure there are lots of used and NOS parts that could populate that board and make it work. Just something that would be cool to see in my lifetime. Can't wait to see the new content!
  5. My apologies. I got off topic, not you. I enjoyed the read and I get extra excited talking about the 5200. But, I will save that for another topic or blog. On with the game! Come on guys! Let's fight like a robot and kick Otto's evil batootee.
  6. I'd like to get my hands on Super Pac-Man, Millipede, Jr. Pac-Man in cart form for the 5200. I'd also like to get the remade Pac-Man arcade version. All of those look really impressive. Nice work @- Ω -!
  7. That is some cool stuff about the 5200 and 7800. I look forward to reading the 5200 articles. As for my score...slight improvement. 2860. So far it has been fun spending time on the machine I received as a gift. My only wish is that my mother could be here to experience it this with me. We didn't have Berserk. The last 5200 game we found was Moon Patrol. We ended up with 21 games total, lost one controller during a move, and some how the machine fried when I was 12. I can still list the original 21 games we had in an 8 track carry case. I have all of those back again and then some. I have games I never knew existed. I prayed for a long time that the 5200 would get Gyruss and never seen it, assuming it was never made. I still need to get that one. In a nutshell...I'm having a blast. TIPS:. Keep destroying robots! As long as robots are exploding Evil Otto won't come out as often. The robots are dumb. They will walk into and shoot each other. Use this to your advantage. Also, don't hang out where you entered a maze. Change your location. Evil Otto always spawns where you entered the maze at.
  8. As much as I love the 5200 this game shows how much the 5200's analog controllers place a burden on it. Then again after 40 years the controllers I have are probably just worn out. I can't believe it has been 40 years since my first 5200. Happy birthday, 5200. Here's to another 40 years.
  9. Berserk highlights what the 5200 was really capable of with great programming. Just imagine; speech without any extra hardware required. That was no easy task to accomplish back then. We all know now what the 5200 really is but when the thing made it to my childhood living room I had no clue it was a stripped down computer. I wouldn't have cared either as long as the games were good. And Berserk is spot on arcade fun. Granted the controllers don't make this one an easy game to play and can cause lots of missteps and misfortunes. And, no, I'm not bragging about the 5200. I'm just saying how impressive this game is. It's really well done.
  10. I'm trying now. No way am I missing this one.
  11. Actually, even if its price was beyond my reach, I was seriously considering trying to save up for a VCS of some kind. I was liking the recharged games I got from Epic and I really like the 50th anniversary carts they released albeit a bit pricey. But I do believe what DegasElite was saying. Those old 2600 games can be milked for so long before everyone starts to get tired of them again. As for My arcade's reputation...I'm biased on it. I have a few of their mini cabs and have not had any issues with them. I like what they are trying to do with Atari stuff but, I agree, slap a way to put an SD card in those devices please.
  12. I have tried all of the vehicles in the game and the Golden Fox has worked best for me with the Falcon being second. I can't control the other two as well if at all.
  13. You know? I totally forgot about that. The first NES game I actually finished was 3-D World runner. I managed to memorize the levels. I spent countess hours with that game. And when I finished it I was shocked. I had discovered that video games could be beat for the first time. Then I got Metroid, spent a lot of time on it, beat Mother Brain, screamed out, "OH MY GOD!!!", while the 999 timer counted down faster than I could jump on the platforms. Finally making out I see who our hero really is. WHAAAAAT???
  14. My turn! 2'11"54 Mute City and my Silence time is 2'20"64 Silence is my favorite track in the game.
  15. You have to tell us what your 7800 is doing wrong and with pics if you can. We can't help you unless you tell us what is wrong.
  16. Collecting them for future WALL-E bots to play and enjoy. Plus it never hurts to have back ups. And, I already have pics on here of my 2 juniors. The left model my wife and I ordered from collector's cards and games as a non working unit 13 years ago. The right model is from a very dear friend and was to be a parts unit to repair the left one. Turns out it worked ok and the other unit fixed itself somehow. The one on the right is in better overall condition and still looked fairly new. It's my go to unit.
  17. I will take pics of mine together but I think both of mine are of the heavy junior models. I don't think mine are single chip designs. As much as I like my woody I go to the junior models more. I simply like the smaller design and it was what I spent my very first paycheck on. I shared my first paycheck from Sonic when I was 16 on my Mom and myself. She got a new bikini and perfume she had been after and I spotted a junior and games on a clearance rack at an Alco store in my hometown. I spent $50 on that system and a couple of games. I had a blast with it! That was during summer after 8th grade so 1988 was when I got it. That might be why I tend to favor the Jr models more because instead of buying a Nintendo game I bought an Atari junior and some games for roughly the same price. Goodness. That was over 30 years ago! My time has flown. It really is no surprise how well the 2600 has maintained a following all these years later. There's a lot of solid game play on one no matter what model is being used. Personally I prefer the large rainbow model. The short rainbow variation looks to plain to me. The smaller design of the juniors, however, really kept a wedge design that the 5200 and 7800 used. It seemed to fit in better with it's siblings IMO.
  18. If I remember correctly, once integrated sound chips became a standard, most DOS games took the hit. My little Compaq has an ESS sound chip in it with legacy support. No DOS game can find the settings and setting them manually does nothing. Words of advice...if you can opt for it, and are trying to repurpose an old computer, get a true Sound Blaster. You'll have less headaches 😉.
  19. I got that same Lotus package I believe along with Corel Suite of office apps. All for Windows 95/98 which is why I have held on to the little Compaq Armada I found. Still runs and plays well but battery no longer holds a charge and it doesn't have wifi or Ethernet support...so no internet for it. I like hearing stories of old computers finding a new purpose. And there are tons of literally free abandoned software for the out there.
  20. Nice. And Doom to boot! Quake was a power hungry game when it came out. I remember the AMD K6-2 500mhz CPU I had at the time struggled a bit. Quake and Hexen...but I could play Final Fantasy 7 without problems. Once I installed a Diamond Monster video card it could play anything seemed like. Very nice all-in-one setup for sure. Can you add more RAM if you need it or is it maxed already?
  21. Gateway. There's a brand you don't hear about much anymore. Nor Packard Bell. Nice all-in-one you have there. Does it even boot up?
