Arenafoot Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 ran across this tonight on the equator-bay......... When did they have plain white boxes?? I know the re-issues in 1986 were gray and white "artwork" boxes, but I've never seen plain ole white......... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slot-Racers-Atari-2600-1978-COMPLETE-in-Box-Working-Condition-/361350176904 Brian Matherne - owner/curator of "The MOST comprehensive list of Atari VCS/2600 homebrews ever compiled." http://tiny.cc/Atari2600Homebrew author of "The Atari 2600 Homebrew Companion" book series available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/author/brianmatherne
nosweargamer Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 this is from a post at atari age: They are part of one of the Atari Paks, big boxes that contain two or three games and a controller. The Paks are: Racing Pak, Action Pak and Back to School Pak. I guess the Paks didn't sell all that well, and Atari just started to sell their extra stock of white boxed carts. Another possibility is that these white boxed carts only recently hit the market when Atari's stocks were bought up. Justin Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 @Arenafoot very cool find! These white box games came packaged together with other white box games as part of a set. Here's an example
Arenafoot Posted July 27, 2015 Author Report Posted July 27, 2015 Ohhhh....I would have never thought that the boxes inside the "pak"s were plain white. I have seen those "pak" boxes before, but I would think that they would have just used the same "artwork" boxes inside the bigger pak boxes  Brian Matherne - owner/curator of "The MOST comprehensive list of Atari VCS/2600 homebrews ever compiled." http://tiny.cc/Atari2600Homebrew author of "The Atari 2600 Homebrew Companion" book series available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/author/brianmatherne
nosweargamer Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 I find 2 things interesting: 1) Apparently the game boxes were white, but the driving and keyboard controllers where in full color boxes. 2) Atari was using the word Pak (without the C) before Nintendo, who called there cartridges Game Paks. Rowsdower70 Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 I learned something today! Very cool. I wonder how hard the CIB Paks are to find. "For you - Rowsdower from the 70 - have been appointed Omnivisioner of the Game Grid." ~ Atari Adventure Square
The Professor Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 I'm tempted to call the Star Raiders bundle a pak too, though I don't think it technically is..
nosweargamer Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 I'm tempted to call the Star Raiders bundle a pak too, though I don't think it technically is.. Since I'm making up random rules I will say no, since the game did not come in a white box The No Swear Gamer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChtJuo040EOCTVziObIgVcg Host of The Atari 7800 Game by Game Podcast on iTunes, Stitcher and YouTube
Atari Adventure Square Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 I've come across a few of these white box games (rarely, and way back in 80s flea markets) but never knew where they came from. Rather mysterious-looking artifacts, at the time and now. Also never saw the covers for these Paks until venturing into google-archaelogy. Great find, Arena!
The Professor Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Since I'm making up random rules I will say no, since the game did not come in a white box I would agree! More so because the retail packaging didn't use the term "Pak" in the same way the other sets did.
Atari Adventure Square Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Since I'm making up random rules I will say no, since the game did not come in a white box Well, it *is* a 'Fun' Pak, right? Eh? Eh? eh... (opens airlock)
