For this challenge we're playing Activision's MEGAMANIA designed by Steve Cartwright and released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. Special thanks to @Sabertooth for nominating this game for High Score Squad! Megamania is a space nightmare where you are attacked by wave after wave of space objects like hamburgers, cookies, bugs and diamonds, bow ties, space dice and radial tires. It plays a little like Space Invaders, using the Joystick to move left to right and firing missiles. Your missiles move and are guided by your joystick. ROM and PDF Instruction Manual are provided below. I hope you all have fun, and good luck to everybody participating. Can you become a MEGAMANIAC?! Megamania.a26 Megamania.pdf

  20. 🌃 MUTE CITY OR BUST!!!

  21. Who’s still reading / subscribing to magazines? I just gave an annual subscription to a print magazine to a family friend for Christmas, which was greatly appreciated. I also received a subscription to DuPont Registry, which I used to subscribe to in the mid 1990s and very much look forward to. I wish they would bring back Nintendo Power. Yes we have the internet, we have Instagram, we have this very site, but whether it's Nintendo Power or the Sears Wish Book or the Atari 2600 Game Program Catalog - there's nothing quite like holding the printed materials in your hand and eagerly flipping through the pages wondering what you'll find next.
  22. Conversations like these are at the core of why I created Atari I/O. Critically examining the history of Atari and the early gaming industry with an open mind and digesting what we find in an open, civil and cerebral conversation free of raw feelings and flame wars is sublime. Posting about homebrew development is fun but these discussions are what fascinate me. Here's to those who take the odds 🥃 The goal of this topic is not to tar and feather Jack Tramiel nor to laud him as a hero -- but rather to merely consider and discuss various perspectives of the man and his imprint on Atari's legacy. I'd like to open up more objective discussions such as this one in the future so we can examine history from a fresh perspective. This is the right group to do this with. I lived through the Jaguar like I lived through a tragedy. I was there in November 1993 with high hopes on day one. I brought home the first Jaguar in my state, invited all of my friends over to play. The Jaguar was the most advanced video game system, it was going to be a new 2600 all over again and history was going to repeat itself. I was unaware Rob Fulop and Howard Scott Warshaw were backing the 3DO. I lived as an underdog and fought to support the system beyond the point of being a lost cause. At that age it was traumatic and I still have the scars today. It's partially how I ended up here with these forums.
