Starbuck66 got a reaction from Museum Matt in Anniversary of the release of the Legend of Zelda
I never had it as a kid, but I remember being mezmerized by that gold cartridge. I played it a few times at friends or cousins houses, but my main Zelda games I played as a kid were Link’s Awakening on the Game Boy and Link to the Past on the SNES.
When I first started collecting again 5 years ago I found I had a copy someone had given me in the early 2000’s. I had bought and been given some loose games and collected for a little while back then for my NES that I had retrieved from my parents when I moved out in 2000. I loaded it up and beat it, and I’m so glad I went back and played it. It still holds up well today, and I want to beat the second quest at some point.
We also played pass the controller style at Thanksgiving last year at my in-laws house on my daughter’s NES mini, and that was a blast! We only broke out walkthroughs if everyone was stumped, otherwise we played from memory or from collective strategy. Good times!

Today's the last day to sign up!
I hope to have the mailing list order tomorrow and ship the box out before the end of the week.

Got all of this for 14.50 at a local game shop last night... they normally sell Atari games for 2 bucks each when they have them, and with a discount card I get an additional 25% off.

Finally have a 32x in my collection, along with a spare model 1 Genesis! Now I just need some 32x games... I have a copy of Star Wars Arcade on the way, and I’ll probably snag some others over the coming months.

Count me in! I collect just about every system as well... no 8 bit computer stuff, but pretty much every console from the 2600 on up. I’m in Michigan.

Starbuck66 got a reaction from Justin in Halt and Catch Fire
I finished watching it; they really did fast forward things to the 90's, but it felt right at the same time for the flow of the show. Was really sad to see it end, but I enjoyed every episode and the way they finished things at the end of the series. I'm really glad it didn't get cancelled at the end of season 2 as rumored; it would have been AN ending, but not the ending this show deserved.

Either eBay, Point of Sales, ecommerce, or online banking / PayPal are my guesses...

I thought that the show had great character development. The main players were always trying a new way to connect with themselves and other people. I binge watched it on Netflix over the past week and was very happy with the show overall.
Yes, there are a few nitpick things, but overall, I give it a 8.5 out of 10.
So, for those of you that have seen it...what do you think Donna's last great idea was that she was pitching to Cameron as the show was ending? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Mid 1990's silicon valley...

Interesting thing... I tried running the 32x with the Genesis it was bundled with, and I couldn’t get it to work. The games would start to load, then glitch with some horizontal bars in the video and a buzzing sound. I tried it with my newer model 1 Genesis (mine doesn’t have the High Definition Graphics written at the top of the console), and it worked like a charm! I need to do further testing of that model 1 to make sure it doesn’t have deeper issues.

HIGH SCORE SQUAD SPECIAL CHALLENGE!
2018 WINTER OLYMPICS
FEBRUARY 9th - 25th, 2018
Go for the Gold!
South Korea is hosting the Olympic Games for the first time since 1988! To celebrate, we’ll be playing WINTER GAMES on Atari 7800 as part of a very special Squad Challenge!
You will be posting scores for events in four sports disciplines:
Bobsled Ski Jump Speed Skating The Biathlon (cross-country skiing and rifle shooting)
YOU CAN DECIDE WHICH EVENTS YOU WANT TO TAKE PART IN:
You can post high scores in any and all of the four events if you wish! Pick and choose whichever events you’d like to compete in! If you’d like to play in some events and ignore others, that’s perfectly fine. You don’t have to post a score for each event if you don’t want to.
For this Squad Challenge there will be FOUR Winners announced at the “Closing Ceremonies” after the games end at 11:59 PM PST on February 25th, one for each event.
The real Winter Games begin TONIGHT and run from February 9th - February 25th, 2018. Our Squad Challenge ‘Olympics’ will take place during the same time as the real Winter Olympics! Remember, you have until 11:59 PM PST on February 25th to post your scores (when the real Winter Olympics end).
Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss the 2018 Winter Olympic Games! We love the Olympics and want to make this a fun event!
You’re about to move across snow and ice with as much speed, strength, endurance and grace as you can muster in the blustery cold. This is the winter portion of the world’s foremost amateur sports competition. You’ll match your skills against Atari I/O’s top athletes. Be proud. Today you stand among the elite few whose courage and stamina will be testes by these Winter Games!
All of our normal High Score Squad rules apply, except that we are effectively playing four “mini-games” instead of just one. Remember:
Objective: Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between January 9th through January 25th, 2018. Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the 1-month competition is the victor!
Eligibility: Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!
Play Rules: Games may be played on real hardware or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. Enhancements and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.
Difficulty Level: Player's Choice. You can decide which events you want to take part in.
Fair Play: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, Photoshop, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater.

Starbuck66 got a reaction from Justin in Recently acquired a 2600 Jr
A buddy of mine was moving and stumbled on a 2600 Jr he had lying around, and told me I could have it! Didn’t have a power supply or anything else with it, so I picked up a Retro-bit 2600 AC adapter and fired it up. The picture had a some jailbars and very staticky sound. I tore it apart, and dusted it out to see if that made any difference, and of course it didn’t. I then took off the shielding and tried it again, and the static in the sound is gone, and the picture still isn’t perfect, but it’s much clearer. Any idea why the shielding would be causing interference? I’m guessing it’s grounding out somewhere?
Another question: I’m really interested in doing an AV mod on this since it’s a spare (I have my 7800 as my main system still)... is there a kit anyone would recommend?

Starbuck66 reacted to CrossBow in Star Raiders 5200 Overlay
Years ago...I actually made my own 5200 overlays using transparency sheets. I would print a reverse or mirror image of the overlay graphics through my inkjet printer onto the transparency. Then I would use white krylon outdoor spray paint to coat the back of the overlay with. Then used an actual overlay to trace out where I needed to cut them to use them. Eventually the paint will fleck off from bending the transparency over time but they lasted for several years as I recall.
