Just noticed the beta of Crescent Galaxy is 4MB where as the released version is only 2MB. It was such a turd that I've completely overlooked this. Wonder how much better or different the beta is in comparison!

Once we get the majority of things up on the JagServer, we should also add the dates of the original rom builds just before the MD5.
-
This may not be new news to anyone, I'm not sure, but I had the opportunity to speak with one of the guys recently that was working on the project with them. Turns out that Tetrisphere really is a'bit of a different game than what was originally being made for on the Jaguar. Some things to highlight or note:
-Game play on the Jaguar version is bolder and simpler, which makes it more entrancing and faster-paced than Tetrisphere.
-It uses all flat-shaded polygons and the frame rate was always about 60.
-The game play is faster on the Jaguar because you could not/did not produce 'combo chains' or drag pieces around, you just focus on moving the sphere to align with the current piece. Part of the reason this changed for the N64 is because the producer, who was of Killer Instinct fame, seemed to be obsessed with 'combo' move game play. As a result, the game play has to be slower as a result to provide enough time to move pieces around to align before dropping a piece. It takes away from the core mechanics a bit. Also, since it became a more complex game, it almost couldn't be played without some sort of explanation to a new player where as on the Jaguar version, you can just pick it up and go!
-Graphics - the textures got a bit noisy and heavy on the N64 - there is something much punchier and clear about the flatter style of the shaded polygons for the Jaguar version.
-The team continued working on Jaguar stuff for a bit during the development of Tetrisphere but more because it was a pet fascination given the imperative to ship Tetrisphere. They had a very interested and talented programmer at the time that found the Jaguar to be really powerful for making sprite based games but felt it was oversold as a 3D platform - they kept experimenting but never settled or committed to anything else.
-Music was done in XM format ( fast tracker ) and was roughly around 75% accurate and sounded all kinds of messed up. Soundtrack would have been very similar to what was in Tetrisphere but more constrained in terms of number of voices due to cartridge rom size. XM could have up to 64 channels vs MODs being limited to 4.
Maybe said person I spoke with may find their way here to further elaborate and share even more detailed experiences/memories.

"I believe people are smart, not dumb. If you can give people Rolls Royces, for the price of Volkswagens, i'm sure they will buy them.."
Jack Tramiel interviewed at the CeBIT exhibition in Hanover, early'88 when asked about ST manufacturing.
Hardware or price points was never really an issue for them. The problem that Jack didn't really foresee was the lack of software/developers. It's nice to have an equal or even better in some cases car but if you can't buy the fuel needed to run the damn thing, then what's the point? ;-) I'm not saying the ST didn't have it's fair share of software just it obviously still wasn't anywhere near that of others when it came to the endless options.
One thing can certainly be said, misunderstood or not, the price of these machines continue to increase in price once again, especially the STe. Currently a used unit on eBay that is in ok condition and sitting at $405 with like 4 days to go.... bonkers pricing. Then again, I guess some older computers from the early 90s are getting higher in price as well since most of them have been tossed but still, nothing really like the Ataris.

Time for a quick update on this...
Have had a little more time over the holidays to dive into this again and will show some of the demo or test images used for those purposes only but were created for this game in mind specifically in regards to possible scenes or scenarios. Think I'll definitely be able to have some Cinepak cutscenes as well, so that'll be a nice touch - with unique audio/female voice overs even. I'm guessing 20-30 second introduction scenes and maybe a transition scene or two. Not saying anything will actually ever come from any of this but I am creating the scenes/scenario artwork and music for it just in case.
These were taken running on a real Jaguar and CRT:
It looks worse when you're taking a picture of it from an old CRT tube but it really does look pretty good on screen. Mind you, there is obviously no game code involved, this is just to test the output of the Jaguar using these rendered images. The following is from the original to kind of give you an idea how it converts over into the Jag:

more updates today...
Nice... also, not sure if it came through but I requested edit access.

Great work on the list updating TXG!!
-
Hahaha... no, that's awesome and of course not. This is going to be a long work in progress =) I'm glad we're doing this!
-
Yeah, a spreadsheet was on the list but looks like you already made the jump! =) and while I think the MD5 stuff is awesome, the only problem I find with it is that if someone added a boot header or otherwise to a ROM, it'll change it - so that doesn't automatically mean it's definitely different.
Also, I've already uploaded the Arena playfied test, Jack Nicklaus Golf and some others you have listed as 'NO' on the list in the uploads folder. Everything on that list should read yes, I just haven't had a chance to locate and upload everything from my older hard drives.

I'm attempting to compile and document everything known in existence related to the Jaguar - most specifically unreleased games and betas - and make it easily accessible. This is a very rough draft and early work in progress list that I'll update accordingly. I've been talking to a few different people in hopes to make sure all of these are easily available for download - so that's a work in progress as well - but the work on that has already begun as of last week.
Looking to continue and update where Cyber Roach or Hans left off, include all the incredible information and legwork provided by Lost Dragon and everyone else who could make all of this possible - I can't even begin to list names from memory. If you have any unreleased examples that aren't on this list, please let me know so that I can update it accordingly.
I have verified this list to be accurate and will not include items that have not been verified by myself first-hand, so you can rest assured of its authenticity.

Between one of these and an Atari Jukebox.... that would be awesome.
Not sure the pictures justified the asking almost $400 but I suppose if it's mint then it's worth it. I know about 10 years ago they generally fetched around $200 so I suppose this isn't out of line for a complete one. I wanted one and on several occasions almost did but just couldn't justify it. Most likely will never have one and the VLM is the next best thing for me personally anyways.

I love the Lynx and probably shouldn't let it go but I'm far more of a Jaguar fan than anything and I need an earlier model K Jaguar that has an ADC chip in it. Just the base and power supply is all I need in working order. I can help you identify that it has it should we come to a trade.
I'm willing to trade my boxed copy of Alpine Games for the Lynx with Duranik's initial cart backing design with the 3D printed backing as opposed to the injected molded backings they ultimately decided to go with for the release. Personally, I think this one is cooler than the actual release which is why I set out to get it from them. The picture was on their website but it looks like they've since updated it.
Probably perfect if you're into collecting for the Lynx, I think this is the only one that has their 3D printed backing. If you're interested, please send me a message.

That's incredible! I've seen compilations of sorts in the past but never this many and loose on the details because I don't own a CD32. It's always been one of those systems I wanted to get and in the early 2000s almost had a new one but always put it off. Now they've become so ridiculously expensive I'm unsure I'll ever own one.

Meh, I'll pass. No need for a portable myself and other than it's ability to "switch" that they seemed to be trying to drive home in this promo I see nothing new here. If this is replacing the WiiU I am not impressed in the slightest.
My feelings as well. This is basically a Neo Geo X Gold with the Nintendo name and obvious controller difference, etc. It almost appears to be a step backward from the Wii but I don't really know enough about it I guess. The other serious problem now seems to be the amount of entertainment options in general. PC Gaming, PSVR, my occasional obsession with classic games and basic movies and such in general already exceed any amount of spare time I have as it is.
I can appreciate that they're willing to try something different but it just seems like a smaller form factor of the WiiU anyways, no? There seems to be some actual excitement behind it. I'm more excited, if that's the word you want to use, about their mini NES console than the NX/Switch.

To me the most outrageous ones are the goodwill auctions these days. Total money grab.
Considering a lot of them aren't even tested yet reach full price does seem kind of insane, especially since very well most items being donated simply do not work. Seeing the Jaguar units exceed $200 blows my mind.

Every once in a great while I will search for vintage whatever and it amazes me at times what people post up and their asking prices.
I know an Apple IIc can fetch a sizable sum of money but $500? No way...

Then you run across ones that actually seem like possibly a good deal:
Atari 5200 with games but no controllers for $75...

What are some that you've spotted recently?

I hope they make a really cool motorcycle racing game for it soon as well! =D

The more things I read about this now that the PSVR is officially released today, the more I'm really wanting this. My buddy got his a little early several days ago but he's hours away so I can only see the pictures he's been posting. I'm in no rush to get it but I can tell it's something I want sooner than later with the plan still to wait for an available PS4 Pro model. I have read that a lot of people have motion sickness from Driveclub VR with little negative to say about other titles.
I'm unsure about Minter's latest madness for the PSVR but will not overlook his efforts as he's always managed to pull of some really great things.

What I would really love to see is Killing Impact (Falcon) make it on the Jaguar but I know the code is most probably utilizing all the 68030 it can. Still would be a lovely Joust platformer..
-
I was halfway expecting to see a picture of everyone's favorite pitchman Mike Kennedy holding a mop and bucket. Anyway, I hope that this game does well for them.
Yeah... while I applaud their efforts, it is very 16-bit'ish. *and now I know why, because it was originally for the Amiga/Atari ST. I don't even think this has updated graphics/sound - just basically an ST port of their own game? into Jaguar since the 68000 is there. Kind of Cyrano Jonesing it... **looks like it's originally by Realms? and published by Hewson Consultants in 1989. Which begs the question, do they now own it or were they originally Realms?

That's an amazing deal for $30, what a steal! Did you have any video from the unit as well KidA?
