Agreed! And add a little wifi expansion too and we'd have a bullet proof portable modern capable PC. 😄
I hope there are some still available when I can save up for one. 😛

This and a screen replacement to make it legible would be amazing.

If any of you are cleaning out stuff and you come across any Giga Pets, Nano Pets, or Digimon, let me know. 🙂 Not Atari, but figure you might be cleaning out the kids old stuff and find something. 😛
I still enjoy those old things, especially now that I'm dumber since my stroke dinged my IQ. 😄
    Ones I like:
    Giga Pets
    Digimon
    Nano Fighters
    Not much into Tamagotchis. 😛

Amazing how many lost N64 games we have gotten lately.
This game, looks like it would have been fun. Very fitting for the time. They seem to be leaning into the Anime popularity explosion in the late 90s. The engine looks competent. The multiple characters look like they would have varied things a good bit. 🙂

I've been sick- so I'm behind on reviews- but today I am making a comeback! Today we look at infamous retro game reviewer, John Hancock's, new 7800 puzzle game: Block 'Em Sock 'Em. This port is on the Atari VCS 800 at a good price point- albeit with disappointing concessions. This game has been ported to the Atari Jaguar, SNES, and originated on the Sega Genesis. #puzzle #retro #atari #atari2600 #atari7800 #atarivcs

I got to work with these guys a long long time ago. At one point I had a bunch of Virtuality headsets in my house that we had tinkered with. These all got disassembled.

Great article, never knew these were running Amigas. 😛
My son got a Meta Quest from my brother for Christmas and I was just telling him about how VR was, 'back in my day'. haha. I have not tried the new Meta Quests, kind of a waste on me being mostly blind, but he has fun with it.
I got to play one of the Virtuality units back in about...1994/1995 at Dorney Park. It was like $X for 15 mins. It was some DOOM-like deathmatch game, but have never been able to figure out what it was called.
You ran around in a 4DOF FPS engine, no look up or down, just left and right, and stood in a little pen with two wired controls in your hands. I thought it was super cool.

"The 1000 series, which featured the iconic bulky headset, was essentially an Amiga 3000 with our own proprietary cards based on a Texas Instruments chipset," Don McIntyre told this writer in a Eurogamer interview a few years ago."
Back in the 90's though AMIGA didn't have the same success with home users as in the UK the chipset and capabilities were still far ahead of it's  time, so much so it was used everywhere from small broadcast cable channels with a Video Toaster allowing high end video effects and broadcast capabilities to animation studios at DISNEY and even as computational devices for NASA. Here is a great article that shows how it even helped usher in the push towards VR tech back in the 90's. An awesome article about pioneering VR tech in the early 90's.

Very nice mockup. 🙂 I like the art style and colour palette. I think it would be fun on the Genesis. Looking forward to checking out its progress. 😄

    Hi Guys 🙂
This is the horizontal space shooter I've been working on.
It's in a playable state, with three end of level bosses.
I'm not so sure if I've done so well estimating difficulty.

Ramping up dev on a port of C@tacombs of Chaos first released on the Atari 2600.  Got a leeetle too ambitious in my game design for a sequel.  So, I'm starting with the gameplay already present and working my way up.  This was my attempt at making a rogue-like for Atari.  Also, an excuse to pay homage to Adventure Creator.
Going for a de-make style similar to the Gameboy Color.  Often you'll see sprites with 4 colors or less.  But, I do cheat and sneak in more sometimes.  Here be a mock up manually placing 16x16 pixel tiles to look like it's farther along than it really is 😛

Glad you saw that book around, though a shame you did not get to learn WinAPI. It was weird to me at first, I was pretty dense at first haha. Then became second nature once I wrapped my head around it. The Atari ST form/window handlers are pretty similar, so when I went backwards to the ST, it helped me. 😛 That makes sense, the agnostic C++ book would probably be better. I had the same thing, just terminal and running text programs.
Ah ok, yes I have one or two of these too. I think I have a mini-Javascript guide someone gave me years and years ago. 😛
I'm right there with you, tempted with programming books. My bookshelf is ready to collapse from all the heavy books so don't think I could fit any more. I am tempted to get older ones too, but I can find the PDFs on Archive, but nothing beats that paper feeling, so it's tough haha.

I wish we had opportunity to learn the Win32 API as that would have helped me a lot with understanding the context of programming. The Petzold book was commonplace on the MS campus. The school text book was platform agnostic (I don't remember which book we used).

I always went with the O'Reilly books for software dev.  The ones with animals on the cover:

I have a decent collection of them up in the attic.  Sometimes I'll see one at a book store or used book sale and start salivating before talking myself out of it.  "You don't need this anymore, pops" is what my mind says.  "It's all available on the internet now".  "This isn't going to help you downsize to a smaller house, is it?"
    Still, they are almost irresistible.

Oh bummer, glad you got to work at Microsoft though. 🙂 Understandable though, C++ is not the easiest, especially back then. 😅 Do you remember if the professor had you using Charles Petzold's book on WinAPI? Love that book. 🙂

A shame you could not use the Borland compiler back then. When Borland came out I had a Tandy 1000TX so I probably couldn't either. 😛 At least very well.
1995 we got a Pentium 166 MMX, what PC did you end up getting when you could finally snag one? 🙂
