If they can do it way better than the Nokia N-Gage, then I'll be interested.

The last 2 years at the Houston ArcadeExpo, Darrell Spice Jr. from Spiceware has done presentations about how to write & program for the Atari VCS/2600. His site is http://spiceware.org/  I know there is a program called Batari to write programs but there's some other program that Darrell uses. If you watch his presentation its listed in there.

    Hope this helps you.

curently there are three atari game systems that have basic complier language (which is basically when you type up a code basic language then you run it into complier to make bin(or rom ) format):
    BatariBasic for 2600:http://atariage.com/forums/forum/65-batari-basic/
    7800 basic for 7800: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/222638-7800basic-beta-the-release-thread/
Raptor Basic + for the Jaguar: http://atariage.com/forums/forum/161-raptor-basic/

I programed in bBasic and its prettty simple I recommend that you get ide V bBasic it will help program a lot faster.

This is not on here but here: http://www.atarimania.com/documents/Atari-BASIC-Tutorial.pdf

Mind you though it is a slow loading website so once you get the whole .pdf, i suggest you save it to your PC for the next session.

EDIT: Ooops, didn't check the date on the original post, anyway the link may help someone else, as for the OP, he probably is a BASIC expert by now. LOL

    Behold the Ataribox:

It does look, even without the woodgrain, like a sleek, modern-looking A2600 case. It is even elevated on the top. The black/red design reminds me of the Vader A2600. It is definitely impressive-looking, cosmetically speaking. I hope it performs as well as it looks. Thanks.

My sister just sent me some old photos she found. Here is me circa 1983 (age 6) with my beloved Atari 2600 clone, the Coleco Gemini. I cropped Chopper Command which was laying loose on the floor out of the photo. Other items of interest include "The Fall Guy" board game.

We got our first A2600 (and experienced Atari for the first time) from my aunt in 1982. The game system had cost $129.99, at the time, and I believe it was bought from JCPenney. We had Pac-Man, Dodge 'Em, Night Driver, Space War, Combat (of course, as it came with every 2600 then), and Outlaw as the first games in our collection. Over the years, the collection grew to more games. Soon, we had Frogger, Taz, Crystal Castles, and Space Attack to name a few. Fast-forward to Christmas 1987. I received an Atari 7800 from my parents. I was overjoyed. Eventually, my father gave up the A2600 collection and gave it to me. Now, in 2017, I have five Atari platforms (every one made by Atari for the US market except for the A5200) and over 300 games for my Atari platforms combined.

Oh, and did I mention that I have two Atari computers? Well, I guess, now I just did. I have a 130XE and a 1040STE computer. There have to be over fifty games for those two in a combined collection alone. Yup. In thirty-five years, I have been quite busy collecting.

    Thanks.

In a post on FB, Atari said that there will be 2 editions, 2 boxes and details will be revealed in 2 weeks. They also indicated in the comments that they are calling the project "Atari Box" but that wouldn't be the name of the product. Mark your calendars folks,

I got this on email today and I'm curious as to what it is.  Looks like Atari has some new piece of hardware being released.  It's anyone's guess as to what this will be.  I doubt it'll be a console but looks like they are trying to emulate the design of the 2600.

I'm thinking too much at once is happening.  We have, so far, these consoles for sure coming out:

XBOX One X AtGames' Atari Flashback 8 Gold AtGames' Atari Flashback Portable Game Player AtGames' Sega Genesis Flashback AtGames' Ultimate Portable Game Player Hyperkin Retron 77 AtariBox SNES Classic Edition That's a LOT of game systems no matter how you look at it.  Just link in the 90's when we had all kinds of weird and odd game systems coming out from all angles.  It would, however, be nice to see the TG-16 get some kind of attention by someone who would do it justice.  I don't feel AtGames would be the ones.  Sorry, their products just don't seem worth it to me.

OK...here's my speculations on the Atari Box (I really hope they change the name before release).  It's PC-based hardware.  PC's are good for just about anything you can imagine these days.  And XBOX has proved that you can take PC parts, create a custom BIOS, slap it in a fancy shell, and be somewhat successful.  And there are operating systems on the market that are free to use for whatever your heart desires.

For many years now their has always been the attempts to bring a Linux-based gaming console to the masses.  But none have ever made it past the prototype phase.  On the other side, Steam is a successful place to get digital gaming content for your computer.  Let's face it...it is successful to a point and about the only way to obtain some games.  However, dedicated Steam gaming hardware (PC's in a fancy shell) were expensive and I don't think sold very well.  Even with well known brand names slapped on them.

Now...picture this if you will.  Atari Box + games in a download-only format.  Four USB ports on the front could mean a four-player system.  They didn't show a controller probably because one is not being made or not ready for show.  It would make sense to slap a Linux-based OS in it and follow the steps of Ubuntu where you have a central access point for software (meaning games).  It would also mean saving money because you wouldn't be releasing a physical format.  More work and money could be concentrated on producing games in digital format.  However, I worry about the amount of storage space they plan to include in the system if any.  I also worry about what digital games will be offered to the public.

I'm not trying to dog it in any way and really hope it puts Atari back on the map.  But I do have to be a bit concerned because XBOX has already blown away many followers with their new X1X console coming in November.  And Nintendo, while not doing good at keeping hardware on the shelves (nothing new right?), it is not hard to see that Switch is a success for them.  I'm not sure about PS4 sales because Sony bored me to sleep many times with their E3 show this year.

I feel that for Atari to be successful with their new hardware it should be priced with in reason.  And I would place it in the $200 to $300 range.  I would also suggest that they support 4K but not only 4K.  Not all of us have a 4K TV nor plan to get one.  I just hope Atari isn't shooting themselves in the foot with this console.  But I would expect them to show more by the time the holidays are upon us.  It's an "Atari" tradition.

Whatever it is Atari has my attention and I can't wait to see more development on this.  I just we don't end up disappointed in the end.

That does not surprise me about those prices, which are more expensive in America since the US dollar is worth less than the euro right now and has been for about fourteen years (I check the spot prices of the two currencies regularly). But, I hear you. They are getting expensive because in retail and auction sites they are getting almost impossible to find. I have been a thirty-four year long collector of Atari games, and I can see that the scarcity is there for most of them. In America, a stock Falcon030, as an example, can fetch USD$2,500.00. Notice I said just stock. People want these things. Typical rule of supply and demand, I guess.

    @ jaguar prices

In Germany the prices are indecent, too. For an new AvP you should have to pay € 350. A new Console (NTSC) costs € 400 and a PAL-console € 350. Only two years ago the prices were not more than € 200. But used modules are also expensive. Brutal sports deluxe without box for € 20. That is ruthless in many ways.

I happen to agree with Lance. This is excellent stuff and I hope that you carry on with it. I thought that the Jag could do it as well, but, I ask and guess, would it take some tight coding and programming finesse for sure to play the game on the Jaguar? Just a thought. Perhaps, with the Jaguar CD, you probably would have room for more storage because there would be a maximum scenario of almost 700 MB on the disc anyway. That is, with current CD-Rs out there.

I also have a Supercharger cart with the cassette "Phaser Patrol."  I also have "Stella Gets a New Brain," the CD-ROM with all the Starpath/Arcadia games. It can play on any CD player that plays audio compact discs and has a headphone jack. It's pretty cool.

Probably the two rarest games I own are the "Miner 2049er" games, both volumes. I bought Vol. II a few years back and it is still in mint condition. I also have the box and instructions for the first "Miner 2049er." They were and are really decent titles. I also own a wrapped "Atari Video Cube," but the same game with the title, "Rubik's Cube." which I do not have is rarer. I used to own "Stronghold,"  from Comma Vid. Unfortunately, it was stolen by some really asinine people that my brother once hung around with. That was worth an auction value of $250.00 at the time. Bummer…

Now, I have over 240+ A2600 games alone, and that is just for the A2600.

    Thanks for letting me share.

I'm coming in way late to this discussion but off the top of my head (and using the AA site as a measuring stick):

Quest for Quintana Roo - Sunrise (R8)

    Also rarish:
    Mines of Minos (R6)
    Threshold (R6)
    Earth Dies Screaming (R5)
    Laser Gates (R5)
    Artillery Duel/Chuck Norris double (R5)

All loose so no bonus points there. I do have a Frogger II in box with all the originals for the 5200 though. One of my nicest finds at the thrift store years ago

I'll have to look through my collection again to be sure...I have a Starpath cart but can't remember which tapes I had for it apart from Communist Mutants. I have to imagine that few of those tapes survived as more than a couple were probably erased.
