4,500 is the best I've done since my high score post. Unless someone beats it I think I've had enough!! Time to focus on the 5200 with my awesome refurbished controller! Thanks again Rick!

My favorite "must own" titles are easily Berzerk, Qix, and Pac-Man (which blew my mind as a kid with a 2600!) Centipede and Missile  Command are must haves if you have a trakball!

I played this game a lot as a kid, so maybe the nostalgia helps me enjoy it more. To each their own I guess. I never liked Food Fight for the 7800 but everyone else seems to love it. I should ad that I NEVER played this difficulty level growing up or my feelings might not be the same!!

Here's a list of game titles requested by gamers to be fixed/hacked to work on the AFP - hopefully some (or all) will be worked on, in the near future:

    Donkey Kong VCS
Defender 2 - Is there a way the smart bomb button from controller 2 be changed to a difficulty switch so it can work?
    Frantic
Galaxian - This is full of glitches.
Rally X - Maybe an earlier version can be hacked?
    Scramble
    Space Rocks
    Stay Frosty 1 / Stay Frosty 2
    Spy Hunter
    Star Raiders
    (any/all Starpath Supercharger games)
Berzerk - invisible wall removed to play
    Squish'em
    Raiders of the Lost Ark
    Merlin's Walls
    Cosmic Ark
    Pitfall II
Adventures of Tron - title screen messed up
    Halo 2600 - fully playable
Zippy The Porcupine - full game does not run

xxxx = (done) hacked to work on the AFP
xxxx = DPC+ games will not work on AFP

    Games I think are must-haves:
Realsports Baseball - Speech!  Probably the best baseball game on any classic system.  This one uses the analog stick to great effect for batting.  Berzerk - Speech!  It's really fun.  Best Berzerk game on any home system. Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man.  Great ports of the arcade classics. Star Raiders - RickR's favorite game Ballblazer - great fun, great music Space Dungeon - I think this is the only home version of the arcade game.

As mentioned before I am working on a "How-To" series that is going to attempt to approach the 5200 in a way that might place it in the spotlight and hopefully answer many of the "faults" I've head so much about.  I'd like to know what points or questions that Atari.IO members here might have that I can make a part of the videos.

Along with that I would like to know what games other 5200 owners consider must-haves for those interested in getting or have just purchased a 5200.  I don't want to mention homebrewed games.  I'd like to try to stick with games that came out for the 5200 during its production run.

    Ready? and GO!

I think it's a nice looking game.  And it's cool that it has 2 distinct screens.  So there is some positive here.  Mama always says to find something positive to say.

Slik Stik is the way to go on this one.  I'm using a real Slik Stik with a USB adapter and Stella.  But hey, don't take my advice...I don't have anywhere near the top score.  I just think it needs the twitchiest controller...and that says "Slik Stik" to me.

I'm still trying to even reach my previous score, much less surpass greeweens still very challenging !!! last try made it to zapper screen 4 times and mebbe got one beastie outta there the whole time.

Another time grabbed 2'nd beastie & shuttle wouldn't make it back into mother ship before getting hit by meteor  ... good thing the controller was fastened in place

it does seem sideways meteors have a shorter distance to travel to the ship. this is certainly a "twitch game"

I am guessing keyboard for a controller. I still haz to hunt & peck mine. making me a non-PC gamer

Bleah. I finally made it to the second screen, but only once. Would there be any reason for multiple shots vertically, but not horizontally?

Not only that list MaxRD posted above, there's also the ROMs that have been hacked to work (and some that already worked - made better) on the AFP. Most of them are posted/linked on that Compatibility List. Or you can watch this thread as Nukey Shay is hacking them on a daily basis- http://atariage.com/forums/topic/259166-flashback-portable-needed-controller-hacks/page-7

    Enjoy!

Just so you are aware there is a major Compatibility and testing thread on AA that should prove useful to any owner of this handheld, lot's of testing going on, swapping out or repair of ROMS that do not work and having complete archived zips ready to unpack onto the root of your SDcard all solid and proven working for your device. Check it out.

My screen was perfect (still is). I kept my protective film on (at least I think its still on) and I know I bought a brand new unit since I bought it at BB&B personally.
Mine has a minor hum while in the SD card mode. But no crackle. I rarely play any of the games with the sound up or even on at all anyway.

I didn't see it either. Mainly because there was no pull tab to remove it. Hahah

Over all its nice, I like it. The hum is not as noticeable but that crackling sound when I enter or exit a game bothers me.

Mine does crackle.  Most notably when the unit is turned on.  More like a quick "pop" and again when you pick a game.

The sounds are a little off -- the tone seems low.  In general.

I had no idea about the screen film.  Indeed, mine had it, so I peeled it off.  Looks much better now.

    I still love this thing.

Mine does not hum, nor does it crackle lol

As for the screen, it does come with a film over the screen you can remove if it IS new.

So my lady being the awesome person she is got me an Atari Flashback Portable on Amazon!!! The box was sealed but after opening it I noticed clear signs of it being a used item, scuffs on the back, slight scratching on screen from slifing on another surface...... (I do not know yet if where she got it from stated used or not yet)

It seems to work fine aside from 2 things regarding sound and I would like to know if they are normal or not.

    1. The unit has a hum when on. It did not interfere with any of the game sounds and I am ok with that.
    2. When I activate a game from the menu there is a crackle sound much like you would get from a dirty pot on an old radio or guitar equipment.

Are these noises normal for this kind of thing? Signs of other issues yet to show up?

I am ok with them, they do not hinder anything as far as playing the games but if the seller did in fact state it was a NEW item and swapped out for a used one I would like to pursue making a claim and keep people honest. Unless I do find out later today that it was sold stating it was in fact used or these sounds are normal!!!

Thanks a ton in advance for your input guys!!!!

I can't help but say that once I got the 5200, and watched TRON, I would imagine some intelligent beings inside my 5200 reacting to my playing skills. But my imagination really took off with the whole package deal that Atari was putting inside each new game that arrived.  I didn't get the 2600 but I absolute love the artwork on those carts but I also love the artwork on the 5200 cartridges as well as those were what I had in my childhood.  And I think the child imagination in me really took to the idea that Star Raiders conjured up and probably why that Star Raiders as remained my all-time favorite game.  I was a pilot in control of this space ship and I was to protect my starbases and take out enemy fighters.  What kid didn't dream of doing something close to that?
