  1. There's another nice update from Trek World linked below. This one is a little more dry, to be honest. Mostly, it's about taking things slow and not believing everything being stated on-line. More wait and see... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgCr5eKUQuQ
  2. I would say that there are a ton of great games. Atari (and others) made really good arcade ports on cartridge, and then there was an unbelievable world of disk-based games. Electronic Arts, Epyx, Datasoft -- so many classic games. Literally thousands of the very best 8-bit games. All that with super simple controls and great graphics/sound.
  3. Oh please 5 more people buy this and end my temptation.
  4. OH! And of course I have a 400 in my collection now. This one is on my "never sell" list.
  5. I wonder if the games are coming now too. Berzerk Enhanced and Mr Run & Jump. I haven't gotten any update. Come to think of it, I'm still waiting on the AtariAge cartridges too.
  6. My dream computer was the Atari 400. Improved Atari games and those cool store kiosks made me drool. I ended up with a VIC-20 instead due to lower pricing and loved it. But my dream came true a few years later when I found an Atari 800XL/1050 disk drive/1025 printer bundle on clearance at Sears. The computer did not disappoint. I loved it and still do.
  7. It may not be appropriate here, but we booked a trip to Disneyland in Feb because of the awesome sale going on right now at Alaska Airlines. It is going to be a good week to book your 2024 spring trips if you have any planned.
  8. Same! I don't know. But I'm going to ride with it.
  9. Oh man, I didn't know about the free shipping. While I'm glad I didn't buy earlier...but now it's even MORE tempting! Willpower, Rick. We can do this. Don't give in!
  10. And Space Ace is also on sale! Somebody please hide my credit card! https://newwavetoys.com/products/space-ace-x-replicade-overhaul
  11. Yes, I think I better stay away. I don't need another thing to collect! But it is very tempting.
  12. Note that it is slightly less at Amazon (for me) because shipping is free. I'm still thinking about it 🙂 https://www.amazon.com/New-Wave-Toys-Missile-RepliCade/dp/B0BMS4TRPL/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1FL6TJRRX5TJX&keywords=missile%2Bcommand&qid=1700256832&sprefix=missile%2Bcommand%2Caps%2C150&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.17d9e15d-4e43-4581-b373-0e5c1a776d5d&th=1
  13. That looks awesome! Do you have one? I'm looking for an honest opinion on these before I buy please.
  14. 100% agree. I wasn't expecting this, but I hope it turns out to be true. I've seen the bigger model at the Smithsonian (before the most current refurb) and it is one of those things that is astounding to see in person. Seeing them together would be even better. Last night on H&I, they had the episode titled "Requiem for Methuselah", a season 3 episode that is the very last episode that used this 3ft model on screen. I stopped dinner prep to watch that part of the episode very closely, just because it was so interesting to see the model in its prime.
  15. OK, I started playing around a bit last night (and created quite a nice likeness of myself for the "Mii" or whatever they call the avatars). There are several great games on the hard drive, so I'm not going to reset it. I'll just remove the other profiles. I played a round of "Hydro Thunder" and OMG, that's quite a nice water effect! There's also some battery corrosion in the battery holders, so I'll work on that. Thank you guys for the help.
  16. An update from Rod Roddenberry on Facebook. I'll copy/paste the text here: Hello friends. To cut to the chase, people have been asking me about the 3-foot Enterprise model for the past few weeks... I've prepared a formal statement, as it's difficult to respond to everyone individually. Feel free to share, as well as the documents attached, and the link to the Roddenberry Archives and our efforts for preservation, at the end of the statement. Onward! ~ Rod "Along with much of the Star Trek community, I was excited and pleased to learn that the original 3-foot filming model of the Starship Enterprise appears to have been discovered after being missing for decades (pending full authentication). I can confirm that I am now, through an intermediary, in contact with the individual who possesses the model. This prototype played a key role in the visualizing design of the famous television starship during Star Trek’s early development in 1964. Once the show went into production, the model was actually filmed in numerous visual effects shots seen throughout the life of the original Star Trek series, along with a larger, 12-foot model that is currently displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I am convinced that this prototype model holds immense significance for Star Trek and its 58-year history. From its creation in the mid-60s until about 1977, the model was in the possession of my father, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. Unfortunately, it went missing after being loaned out during the production of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Beyond its physical value, the greater significance is this prototype Enterprise model really represents the underpinning ideas my father imbued into the series. That we are clever, resilient and can learn from our mistakes. We can and will move beyond archaic belief systems. And once we truly embrace the infinite diversity all around us, both in form and idea, we will then take those next step into a prosperous and unlimited future. Guided by this principle, one of my primary goals over the past decade has been to locate, recover, and digitally archive significant Star Trek materials and artifacts through the Roddenberry Archive project. The intention would be to scan it in the finest detail for the Roddenberry Archives and after rigorous scrutiny make it available to the public. Furthermore, I firmly believe that a piece of such importance should not be confined to any private collection. This iconic artifact should be enshrined along side the 12-foot shooting model at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, where it can serve to help tell the story of television history, the history of space exploration and ultimately, a beacon of hope for the future.” Roddenberry Archives: https://home.otoy.com/roddenberry_archive_may2022
  17. If you want Lunar Lander, buy it. And check out YouTube reviews for honest opinions. Yes, the SD card slot allows more games to be added.
  18. As far as I know, they are homemade. It involves removing one axis pot and replacing the other with a radial potentiometer (from a 2600 paddle). I haven't tried it with Tempest, but I should! The best home version of Tempest is the one that comes free on the VCS using the classic controller (which has a dial). It's the arcade ROM.
  19. I have one too, and it is awesome with any game that has side to side motion. Space Invaders, Galaxian are two that come to mind. It's a complete hoot to play those games with a paddle.
  20. Thank you! No, I've never had one for myself, although my youngest kid had one. I never touched it. I *do* have a PS3, so this won't be too strange. I also have a whole stack of discs that I've found and kept over the years. 40 games, according to my spreadsheet. 🙂 Thanks for the response, I may contact you with more questions. Right now, I'm charging up some AA batteries. Do you know if I have to create an account or anything? Factory reset is a good idea?
  21. Something very new to me! An XBOX 360. From a family friend: "Do you want this or should I take it to the dump?" Me: "Hell yes I want it". Can someone please help me with this? I have so many questions: What model of 360 is this? Should I factory reset it? The controllers shouldn't need wires, right? WTHeck is that weird plastic gismo off to the right? I assume it goes with some game.
  22. Captain Pike had the party quarters.
  23. Maybe they fit in sideways??? It sucks for sure.
  24. We've been looking at smaller houses, and that is one urgent "want" on our list is one room for Rick's junk. It's going to be a tough transition when it ever happens, as I've got a lot of space in our current house (the kids moved out years ago).
