Great question Lee and great insightful answer Yo-Yo. I've always been disappointed that Atari never released the Cosmos.

One piece of advice I can offer is to try at first using CD-RW disks if you have them. This will allow you to burn, and then try again if you screw something up.

I've got an extra Dreamcast. And a TI-99/4A.

It is interesting. I may take a video of Touch Me so you can see it in action. The problems I see that Simon seemed to fix: The name. "Simon" is a perfect name for this game. "Touch Me" is creepy, and not even descriptive of the game action. Buttons - they are tiny on Touch Me. Much larger on Simon. Color - The lights on Touch Me are all red. Simon used light up colored buttons instead. Sound - Not very pleasing on Touch Me. Almost musical on Simon. What Atari got right: Size. Touch Me is totally portable. It fits in a pocket easily. Simon is huge. Timing. Touch me came out years earlier than Simon. Engineering - Touch Me is really well made considering it was Atari's first handheld. Simple design, small size, reliable components.

I was thinking the same. My first one in post #1 is the same "orange". There are slight differences throughout...circuit board, label, plastic thickness all a little different. I'd guess the yellow is newer/cheaper.

A Tale of Two Touch Me's I received two broken Atari Touch Me's from Ebay, and they were both in really rough shape. I was able to cobble parts together from both to make one working unit. And it works great! Buttons all cleaned and restored. Electronics touched up. Replaced speaker. Replaced 9V battery connector. The other is forever broken, but makes a nice shelf display. The good, working, darker one is now up for trade if anyone is interested!

Ah, so those are the normal sprites from the game? I got fooled.

That Kool Aid Man easter egg is pretty neat. But what do the "K" and "W" mean?

What are the real facts behind Pac-Man’s 2600 development?
RickR replied to Arenafoot's topic in Atari 2600
The best part of this story is the marketing guy who pushed to not release it. A few small changes would have made the game a lot better. Black background, blue maze, for example. And remove the eye on Pac-Man. They do mention that a lot of other programmers thought it was a tremendous accomplishment on the 2600, and it is. Especially when you consider it was Tod Frye's first game! But that's the frustrating part....just a few small changes..... One part I still don't understand is the lack of oversight at Atari. It always seemed like the programmer didn't have to listen to any input from other developers or a supervisor. The decisions they made went unchallenged. I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate, but it seems to be implied in a lot of stories like this. This was a good read, and thanks for posting it. -
I have two broken "Touch Me" handhelds on the way. Keeping my fingers crossed that they can be fixed. If so, they will be for sale for a nice fair price if anyone is interested.

Double Dragon (MAME) - Love being able to "reverse-elbow". Ace of Aces (Atari 8-bit) - choppy graphics. Not very fun. Dig Dug (MAME) - very fun.

Lots of cool label variations.

Organized? I consider it more like real-life Tetris.

A view of my attic, where most of my stuff is kept. This is shelf #1 of 2. Someday, I'd like to be able to keep this stuff out for use, but no room at the present time.

Would you like the smoking or non-smoking section?

Here we go. From Rowsdower. Three handheld games (have I mentioned I'm a sucker for these?) And the cool hat. And a game I haven't opened yet. Armor Battle needed a clean. Works great! Did I mention the Mattel handhelds are my favorites? Missing the battery cover, but RickR does not care. A working game = smiling RickR. Pac Man 2 - needed some cleaning, and the controls didn't quite work. Repaired that with some soapy water and electrical contact cleaner. It's actually a lot of fun with an elaborate maze. For the two game, player 2 controls the ghosts! How cool is that? I'll tell you what, playing the 2 player game with only 1 player == the easiest time clearing the maze I've ever had! Take that "Blinky" -- if that's even your real name. Dracula - needed the power switch cleaned up, but works great now. It was hard to take apart because it needed a special screwdriver. Found the right one if my magical toolbox. Once you take it apart...there were springs and even a ball bearing to carefully keep track of inside. This game is totally cool. It has multi-color graphics and some really nice sound. Rowsdower says it has more than one screen...but it's so dang difficult, I can't get by the first screen! And check out the "magnified" screen. It must have the evil power of Dracula...because my camera can't focus on it. It's really just a piece of clear film kind of bent into a parabola shape. But cool. Very cool. The battery cover is cracked. Rowsdower temporarily repaired that with a sticker. I think I'll leave that as-is. Otherwise, my fingers will end up glued to something. THANK YOU!
