It's fantastic.  It's as good as game #1 in the series (I think there are 3?)  But I haven't made it very far yet.

There doesn't seem to be any Actiplaque on the Dragster label. Looks nice. :O)

Of the several cockpit view space games on 2600, Starmaster is my favorite as it had well balanced action, map screen,  and shooting mechanics.  Star Voyager though being the simplest is really fun but there is something cool about having the map and feeling like you are in a cockpit which is why I still gravitate towards Star Raiders with that touchpad though it is limited. 
However I did recently try the 8bit version of Star Raiders and that just perfects everything.   Definitely my all time favorite now of this genre.  If you like those other games on 2600 you will love the 8bit version. 

For an Activision cart, the label looks like it's still in pretty good condition!

Oh my. I told him it was national Pac-Man day today (he doesn’t know he’s getting this) and he said that he got it for Easter when it first came out. I guess he’s getting it for Easter again!

Of course! I’d go crazy without one. I’m using my tried and true Vader model, which I’ve used a lot more. The Woody I’ve kept in use too, but used it as much as this one. Plus, it’s a lot more iconic and a better one to give away.

I had the 5200 Star Raiders long before I ever seen the 2600 version.  So playing Star Raiders on the 2600 was a major setback for me.  Not that I didn't like it as I knew the 2600 could never handle anything like what I was use to.  It wasn't as good as what I was use to in my opinion.

It's just ok in my opinion.  I remember being so excited to get the game when it was new because I knew how highly regarded the original computer version was.  This was during the period when I had moved up from the VCS to a VIC-20.  I bought the game and played it quite a bit.  It just doesn't control very well.  Hitting the aliens seems more luck than skill.  Starmaster and Star Voyager are much better, and Phaser Patrol blows it away completely.

I think like many Atari 2600 games it was a terrific concept for a game and an ambitious project to attempt on the 2600. Once again though Atari was in a situation where they should have released a new generation video game system by that point, and it was just too much to do with so little. Even with the addition of the Touch Pad. Had Star Raiders been playable with 2 buttons and a D-Pad, and some text on screen and NES-like graphics, it could have been way better.

It's horrible!  I know the CV could do so much better than this.  WTH!  The horribleness makes me love it even more, though.
