    VERY COOL!

    From the link:
Sega also revealed that AtGames, the company behind 2017’s poorly received Sega Genesis Flashback, is no longer involved in its production. Instead, longtime collaborator M2 is handling the ports, having previously delivered high-quality conversions for the SEGA AGES series and SEGA 3D Classics Collection.
The following 10 games were unveiled for the North American and European editions, with more to be announced over the coming months.
Sonic the Hedgehog Ecco the Dolphin Castlevania: Bloodlines Space Harrier 2 Shining Force Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine ToeJam & Earl Comix Zone Altered Beast Gunstar Heroes

Absolutely! It will be a 520 STFM refurbished through Lance at @Video 61. It's only been on my Atari shopping list for 17 years. I'll need to get some good games.

Decent ST setup?  A standard 520 can do a LOT.  The only thing to watch out for are ST games that state they are for STe only.  But for the most part it was mandatory that most ST programs were to work on the 520.  I'd recommend an STFM because 1):  floppy drive and power supply are built in, no bricks, 2): They offer RF TV out, standard STs don't.
It's nice to see a high score challenge for the ST.  It's easy to see all kinds of high scores for other Atari consoles...the STs don't seem to get as much attention.  As to why is beyond me.  No they are not as readily available as the A8s but they are solid systems with some good games here and there.  I do know that most of the games I have tried left a lot to be desired or just felt and played weird.  Then again it was a time when shareware was born and anyone with the tools and know how was attempting to make games.  Some good, some not so good.  I would have loved to see the likes of Apogee, ID, and Epic make games for the ST.  Could you imagine Doom on the ST?  How about Zone 66 which was a pain to get working on a decent PC setup because of its conventional memory requirements.
STs are nice no matter which model you have.  Easy to use but like an Apple on the price point.

I'm sorry it took me so long to get a score in and spread the word.  But that flooring project at home (it's done now) set me back a few weeks on the gaming front.

Special thanks to RadioPoultry for posting the emulation guide.  That was super helpful.

My main goal for 2019 is to repair and sell/gift several 2600s in the garage. I'm moving them from my house - which is being sold as part of my divorce - to my apartment and I just don't have the room.
Other than that, I want to try and play through a game a month after everything settles.

I've tried to get new people involved via the Atari ST Facebook group with a couple of posts.  But I probably should have tried earlier.

I want to point out how thrilled I am to see that we have FOUR active members submitting scores in this Squad Challenge! I thought participation might be half that, without bringing in new members from the outside world. I wasn't so sure how our first Atari ST Squad Challenge would go but participation has been strong enough to warrant more Atari ST challenges in the future. I'll join in too once I get a decent ST set up!

I totally understand your point of view.  But I can tell you, the Gotek upgrade is totally and easily reversible.  You can put it back the way it was in 15 minutes with just a screwdriver.

In my case, my floppy drive no longer worked.  I've kept the broken drive so I can put it back if I ever need to (and I figure out how to fix it).  It's also possible to use an old PC floppy drive instead, but they usually don't fit exactly right.

Those are the exact models I have too!    It's too bad they didn't have the foresight to call it the 520 STFU.  That would have been a mic drop.

The secret of the Gotek drive is to buy one that's been pre-flashed for use on Atari or Amiga.  Because flashing them yourself is a total PITA.  If you get one pre-flashed, it's a pretty simple matter of taking some screws out, disconnecting two cables and re-assembling.  Very easy.  Although in the Amiga, you probably want to replace the leaky battery while you are in there.

    Same as last year:
Sell what I don't use.  I made pretty good progress in this area in 2018.  Sold off several systems, some extra TV's, a bunch of games.  My sale plans for 2019 include a couple of modded 2600's, an Atari 800, a Rana disk drive, a bunch of handheld games (Entex Pac Man 2 for example).  I want to also get rid of a lot of my Intellivision collection and a Mattel Aquarius.  Anyone interested in these or maybe something else that I may have, please let me know. Buy less, play more.

I though of another factor:  age.  I turned 50 last year.  That, coupled with cleaning out my father''s estate, and also having a few friends pass away really got me into thinking about minimalizing.

It sure is! I remember when those games came out.. everybody was making a big deal about how violent Night Trap was, and I was just thinking how 1987-ish it looked. To me it looked dated at the time. Turned out I was right! Fascinating story for sure.

Improved my score a little more! 88,680.

I discovered a trick: if you gather flags while they are flashing, they add up to your next sequence of flags no matter what color they are. I've added up four flags in a row this way before the flashing ended. In theory,  you could really add up points this way.

So this was the origin of "Sewer Shark" and "Night Trap".  Fascinating.  Night Trap lives on to the Switch to this day!

RickR reacted to Justin in Hasbro NEMO Control-Vision Canceled Video Game Console
The Control-Vision is an unreleased video game console from Hasbro that would've competed against the Nintendo Entertainment System. Games were a mixture of graphics and sprites overlaying full motion video, with intended gameplay on par with Dragon's Lair. Originally codenamed "NEMO", initial development began in 1985 and was supported by Nolan Bushnell's company Axlon. Tom Zito, David Crane, Rob Fullop, and Mark Turmell were key figures in NEMO's development. NEMO is notable for using VHS tapes rather than ROM cartridges, prompting the creation of game content which survived on into much more advanced CD-ROM platforms. The NEMO team created a prototype which used a modified ColecoVision console to combine interactive images with a video stream transmitted through a cable. As a storage medium, Nemo employed VHS tapes that contain computer data alongside a grid of multiple tracks of video and audio that could be switched between.
Three demo games were developed by mid-1986: Scene of the Crime, a four-minute interactive mystery; Bottom of the Ninth Inning, a baseball game; and an interactive music video for the song "You Might Think" by The Cars. Following the demos, work on real games began. They were shot like "choose your own adventure" movies with actors and full-motion video. Games included Sewer Shark, Night Trap, and a Police Academy game starring the real actors from the Police Academy franchise. After filming for Sewer Shark was completed, two months prior to NEMO's 1989 release, Hasbro abandoned the project because the projected US$299 price was deemed uncompetitive against the NES. Tom Zito purchased the rights to the games and stored everything in a Rhode Island warehouse. Sewer Shark and Night Trap would ultimately be released years later on Sega CD through Tom Zito's Digital Pictures company.

You can download the newest version of Hatari here:
    https://download.tuxfamily.org/hatari/2.2.1/
When you open Hatari, it will run without a floppy disk image present. Press F12 to open the Hatari main menu and click "floppy disks". To the right of Drive A, click "browse" and find the Buggy Boy disk image file. Go back to the main menu, select "reset machine", and click OK. The emulated ST will reset and after a few seconds Buggy Boy will finish loading up. Hatari disables joysticks by default, but you can enable them in the main menu (F12) under "Joysticks". For Buggy Boy, you'll want to select Jostick 0, so click the left arrow and switch "disabled" to either "use keyboard" or "use joystick". I'm using keyboard, myself. The default key assignments are the arrow keys for directions and right ctrl for fire, but you can redefine them if you want. Keep in mind you will lose all these settings when you close Hatari unless you save the configuration from the main menu.
