  1. This is what I'm having for the Super Bowl. It is not half bad. I like the Heineken 0.0 better but I don't love Budweiser.
  2. I grew up in Ohio and have lived in L.A. County for almost 20 years. I'm good with whomever wins. For me, this is mostly darn good excuse to top off this mug!

    Happy Super Bowl LVI!

  3. Popped into a vintage shop today and saw a few fun things. A Six Million Dollar Man board game, a WWF glass set, an Andre the Giant glass beer mug.

There was also a Lynx II behind glass but couldn't get a clean photo or price.

I picked something up but will post that in pickups.

Love this kind of stuff in the wild.

  5. Breakout Recharged launched yesterday on basically every modern platform, including the VCS, Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Epic and Steam. As with all Recharged games, the VCS version has multiple controller options and exclusive bonus Challenges. After a sleepless night and significantly more time with the game, here are first impressions: - The power-ups are cool and useful. - The offensive bricks adds something new. - The music is great. - The Challenges seem more varied and, well, challenging. - Levels play like the Progressive game mode of Super Breakout - Finally, the addition of "Classic" and "Classic Recharged" modes are great additions for players that want more than a single life challenge On the VCS, the rotary/paddle function works OK. It's responsive but doesn't seem quite tuned for a wide-screen aspect ratio. Getting across the screen takes more than a full rotation which feels awkward. It should be 1/2 or 3/4 rotation from one side to the other. Would be perfect in 4:3. A sensitivity adjustment like in VCS Vault or Thrustlander could help a lot. It's still my preferred way to play. Overall the game is super fun. All of the established hallmarks of the Recharged series are here but Atari seems to have perfected the formula. It may be the best Recharged game so far. It may be the best Breakout game too. Has anyone else given this one a shot on VCS or any other platform?
  6. I am still on the fence. If I did, I would probably go Saturday and it's $30 for a single day. That's a pretty steep entry for the privilege to peruse and purchase retro games. Also, the program isn't clear on the website. Are the folks making appearances going to do panels? They are mostly YouTube folks. Thats ok but there are no real game dev legends like you would see at PRGE. You're not going to see a David Crane or Rob Fulop do a panel discussion on VCS coding.
  7. PSA: Breakout Recharged is the jam!

I actually love the color palette.  Much better in person. It's very cool in the context of the overall package - music, gameplay, effects. Everything just works. It is also feels fresh compared to the other titles.

I know this is available on other platforms but this is a game I would want to save for just the Atari VCS. I know they would do it right.

I hear the happiest control of the PS5 version is pretty cool. Otherwise, VCS is probably the way to play.

Once Atari turns on the back end for the global leaderboards it will be at parity with other platforms, with bonus content.

  8. Jani Penttiten - developer of Guntech & Utopos - sits in for a frank conversation about developing for the Atari VCS. His take is an interesting perspective and it may surprise VCS owners and skeptics alike. Check it out at the Atari Weekly Podcast.
  9. I had a LONG day and all I wanted to do was play Breakout. I finally got to spend an hour with it and it's VERY good. Its too early to say its my favorite brick breaker ever, but it's definitely worth a look.
  10. I switched to NA beer last month when dining out for a "dry" January as part of a New Year fitness kick. I've just decided to continue for the heck of it. I've been drinking Heineken 0.0. It's actually pretty good.
  11. After a slight delay, Breakout Recharged is now out in the Atari VCS store! First impressions are good but I can't spend any real time with it before heading to the office. NOTE, if you're using the Classic Controller, be sure to have Classic Rotational toggled on and Mouse toggled off in your Controller settings.

  15. I saw this too! I'm still trying to wrap my head around that NES pad. Much less intuitive than the original Intellivision controller...
  16. This is another interesting post about Aquaventure. Despite a rough launch of the XP line, the course correction here has been remarkable. It's great to see them bring on resources to help more properly tell the story of these games. https://t.co/lfiO3FYBZx

      I didn't know you were a stop-motion animator, Sabertooth. Pretty cool. :O)

  22. And done! I gotta say, that last Droog Challenge was way easier than the one prior!
  23. Spot on review @Mockduck ! I've had a lot of fun with this one. Still stuck on a late stage Droog Challenge but will keep trying until I get there. One question: Did you find any discernable differences between drivers?
  24. Looks great! I'm still waiting for my shipping confirmation from Cook and Becker... 😕
