On this jam-packed episode of That Atari Show, Andrew from "Yorkies TV" on YouTube joins us! We dicuss everything from making witty YouTube content, the Atari VCS, favorite games, where we draw inspiration from & much more! Also: the new Atari Flashback Gold 50th Anniversary Edition HD is out! I play "Sequest" on this amazing little marvel. It's a must buy! Plus: In the tradition of this episode's 'quirky' theme, I review "Platter-Mania!," a somewhat sub-par party game for the Atari 8-bit computer line. Join us!

The team at Reboot is back at it with a new platformer called Jumping At Shadows.  If you have a Skunkboard ot Jaguar GD, you'll want to check out the PRGE '22 Demo.
I made a quick "let's play" this morning.

Much appreciated.  It is nice to know I'm not missing something obvious.  I have mine plugged in to a "eco" power strip, controlled by the TV.  So when the TV is powered down, all the other plugs power off too after 30 seconds.  So that means "sleep mode" wouldn't be a good choice for me anyway.

Because the VCS is a mini-PC, there isn't remote start-up/power from the controller as is typical for consoles. Atari did implement a "Sleep" mode from which the console could be woken with a controller. However, this was inadvertently borked in a recent update.
That's a really long way of saying, we have to use the power button for now. Hopefully they fix they Sleep function soon.

I have another RickR (ie - dumb) question!

Is there a way to turn the console on from the controller?  Or is the only way to reach around back and hit that power button?

Very cool. As far as FLASHBACKS I only have the original Flashback 2+. I was never interested in anymore once AtGames took over personally but I will say this seems pretty cool, also I was not aware that they had gotten so small, I mean that thing is tiny, I like it lol, have they all been this small since AtGames took over? Anyway, very cool.

On this surprise BCB episode, I take a look at the new Atari Flashback Gold 50th Anniversary Edition HD console, by atGames! It's currently not for sale in the U.S. but you can order it online. This version was made to celebrate Atari's 50th anniversary & contains a ton of ActiVision and Imagic games! It's an amazing little system. Don't let the Euro-plug fool you, you don't need it. Come watch me give a brief overview and play some of my favorite Atari 2600 games, with both the paddle and regular joystick. Enjoy! In this overview, I play: Beamrider, River Raid, Super Breakout, Crackpots, Video Pinball, Freeway, Space Raid, Demon Attack, and more! I plan on playing even more rare & homebrew games from this system on my other series,"That Atari Show," in the near future. Stay tuned! 😄

I forgot how hard this game is! Each play through is really different depending on weapons drops, pathways and upgrade choices.

    Congratulations tripled!

Congratulations to @tripledthe winner of our Gravitar: Recharged Squad Challenge!
@tripled takes his second Squad challenge win at ClubVCS with a galaxy imploding score of 36,889!  It was a crowded field at the top of the podium though with two other players breaking the 30K barrier.  @Davpa posted a last minute 11th hour entry of 31,375 to take the silver!  @stirrell came in just behind with an amazing score of 30,616 to take the bronze!  @Mockduck navigated his way to a score of 19,590 and a fourth place finish.  Finally, your host @Sabertooth and @RickR round out the boards with scores of 15,315 and 9,030, respectively.
As the winner of this round @tripledwill receive 3 entries in the controller giveaway!
@Davpawill receive two entries since he posted his attempt via Twitch.  Everyone else will receive one entry!
I'd like to encourage @tripled to post his high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on!
Thanks also to @Marco1019 for getting the word out about this challenge!  If you haven't already, check him out on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/retrowithmarco!
Congratulations to tripled on his big win!  And a big congratulations to the rest of the Squad!  Gravitar: Recharged is one of the toughest games in Atari's new Recharged series and it takes patience and practice to do well.  It's also a vast improvement over the original arcade and 2600 games and makes great use of the Classic Controller.  I hope that everyone enjoyed navigating a variety of challenging environments and testing your skills as pilots.
NOTE: Our next Recharged Squad Challenge is Jetboard Joust! Be there!

Here is a pretty decent first impressions video from John Hancock on this PC stick and walk through of Debian. It gives you a pretty good sense of what it can be used for from a gaming perspective but he doesn't get into productivity. Still worth checking out if you're curious about Linux on a VCS.
