Sabertooth got a reaction from DegasElite in PLAION Announces the 400 Mini
Hot on the heels of the 2600+, PLAION announces the Atari 400 Mini.
Retro Games Ltd. and PLAION are happy to announce The 400 Mini, a half-sized modern replica of the classic Atari 400.
The 400 Mini is fitted with the CXSTICK offering an enhanced and updated version of the classic CX40 Atari joystick boasting an additional seven seamlessly integrated function buttons and USB connectivity.
Modern features have been enabled with The 400 Mini such as the ability to side-load games via a USB stick, Rewind and save states for games, HDMI output at 50 or 60hz, and emulation support for the whole 8-bit Atari range from the 400 to the 800XL, and the Atari 5200 home console.
The system is preloaded with 25 retro games for enjoyment right out of the box.
The 400 Mini is launching on March 28 for $119.

Sabertooth got a reaction from RickR in Star Trek: Discovery
I watched the first two episodes in the middle of the night (up with a cold). I like the TNG tie-in for this season's MacGuffin.
The first episode was a little over-the-top with the action, but I like the lighter vibe they seem to be going for this year.

S5, E2 - Ah, that was much better. They toned down the action (and yelling). What was here made more sense.
I enjoyed this episode much more.

I’ve been watching SNW. I absolutely love it. I even tried to style my hair a la Captain Pike but couldn’t get the volume. I may need a better hair dryer or hire a stylist 😂

Sabertooth reacted to TrekMD in Star Trek: Discovery
I've watched both episodes already. I watched them on my flight to Puerto Rico. I really enjoyed them!
Not remembering season 4 after so long is not such a bad thing. The final episodes of the season were really good and felt like true discovery, pun intended, the Star Trek way.
The tech on the suits comes from programmable matter, something that was established when they set the show in the 34th Century. I don't envy them trying to create even more futuristic tech, particularly when it can look just like magic.
@socrates63, glad to see you're liking the show. Again, be aware that the show goes through change on every season.

I ordered Food Fight. Cool to know it will have a new manual as well.

I finished season 1 last week and will start season 2 soon. Thanks for recommending Discovery to me. I’ve been loving it. The tone and style and most everything is definitely a departure from TOS and TNG, and I am good with that. The characters have depth, and I appreciate that. Looking forward to season 2 and beyond.

My wife and I watched S5, E1 last night. I'm eager to know what you all thought. Warning: SPOILERS!
Some very general notes:
I find it really hard to remember what happened in S4. Something about planets blowing up and then a big argument about how to deal with the aliens. Not a good sign when a nerd like me can't remember what happened. But I guess it has been a while. Lots of action in this episode! I don't know if I like this or not. Mostly because I don't think it's very well done. Examples: LOTS of YELLING! That alien settlement in trouble -- we see the same 5 people over and over. It looks like a rip off of Joku on Star Wars. Where is Rey when you need her? There are moments here from TNG! I love this! But wait, they only last a few moments. I don't like this. I sure hope they re-activate Fred at some point. The Iron Man tech in this show is distracting and pointless. Setting us so far in the future maybe not the best idea. Reminds me of the magic turbolift. Not good. I'm trying to forget that happened. Why no expert from "N'Var" on their mission? Seems very strange. A sign of bad writing. I guess it doesn't matter, they only spend a few action moments on that ship. RickR gives this one a solid C.

Message
Welcome to our 26th Club VCS Recharged Squad Challenge!!! For this challenge, we're celebrating the release of the ATARI 400 MINI by playing the Atari 8-bit game YOOMP! Play on the VCS via Atari 50, on real Atari 8-bit hardware, on the 400 MINI, or using your A8 emulator of choice!
Yoomp! is the winner of the 2007 ABBUC software competition. Like a combination of Trailblazer and an often-seen demoscene effect, you fall down a tube, landing on each square progressively in a rhythmic manner. Landing on certain tiles will have certain effects, such as making the screen quake, decreasing the brightness or forcing you to jump. Navigating the tube itself is a matter of planning ahead and compensating for your limited movement capabilities. This game is freeware and can be downloaded on the Yoomp website.
Start at LEVEL ONE and take the game as far as you can for the high score!

I appreciate that they’re standardizing the CX78 Control Pad. It always should’ve been that way.

Good question! I think they did the same thing with Berzerk and Mr. Run and Jump when those were on pre-order. They did ship with boxes. It may be worth a question on the Atari Discord. I'll get back to you.

Are you sure that box is included? I think at the $30 mark, it's cartridge only despite what's shown in the product photo.

Re-releasing some old games that include a cart and box for $30. Good deal if you ask me. Pre-order now for shipment in May 2024

First attempt after a few practice runs to get used to the game: 2817. Game is hard. Wow, those graphics are...not great. 🙂 I will submit a better score and screenshot soon.

I am trying to decide whether to play on Atari 50 on VCS or load the ATR file on real hardware. There's only one right answer for me....BOTH! I'll let you know which one I like better. 🙂
Also going to see if Pengo is already loaded on my modded PS1 Classic.
Scores will be posted soon....
