I wonder. What if someone decided to cosmetically restore older video game systems and the accessories for those platforms for profit? To my knowledge, this has never been done on a grand scale before. It might be cost-prohibitive, but maybe not. Some of this stuff is forty years old or more, especially Atari 2600 products produced in 1977 for instance. I would love to do something like that. I am not sure how it would travel, however. I am a purist, per se, when it comes to restoring things to their original condition. I bring it up because this model of the Atari Jaguar VR system is beat up, but giving it some TLC to refurbish it for posterity (and to play it, of course) might be something lucrative. Of course, I could be barking up the wrong tree. I am not sure. But, one can dream. Thanks for letting me share.

Oh s*** just get a bypass cartridge. Don't go chopping up your Jaguar CD player to just to play unencrypted CDs.

Great video I always enjoy your videos.

The floaty hovertank thing was I do believe actually intentional. The problem I think was that all of Atari's game designers came off of being operating system Developers. The 3D engine was designed by Eric Smith. You can actually go download this engine and assembler compile it and use it. While no you'll never get it to throws many polygons on the screen as a PlayStation or Saturn the engine used like I said is the Atari one and it's incredibly crappy overall.

You can see a bitching of its drawbacks here:

Atari had one guy(Eric Smith) doing most of their 3D research and development along with just a shitload of other things. He was stretched just way too thin.

I was thinking about this today. They could have had cool Atari themed environments. Like one which is the Blasted landscape of Missile Command with missiles raining down in the background. But I think someone already said that. Or how about where missiles could be targeted at the opponents and they have like a few moments to get out of the way.

Race through Bentley Bears Castle. A Tempest 2000 inspired track. Where it looks like your sort of racing down the web like Black Widows and or Tempest 2K. Maybe you have to dodge spikers?

How about the power ups could have been like super zapper.

The possibilities could have been fun.

Oh man...Baldies on the CD is the Jaguar's version of Populous.  You build houses and other buildings, breed four different types of Baldies which I can't remember what they are now, and blast your enemy to oblivion.  I believe it had 100 levels and I did manage to beat all of them back in the day.  Just for that game alone I would have a Jag CD...but those things are way too costly and hard to find used without costing an arm and leg.

Power Drive Rally was easily the Jag's better racing game compared to Checkered Flag and Club Drive.  I had Hover Strike on both cart and disc and I must say that both formats are good games even if the CD build has a few extras.  Cybermorph is my favorite sit down and enjoy shooter.  You don't have a time limit and can explore the various environments.  Iron Soldier I could spend days on end without even thinking about it.  And don't get me started on Tempest 2000...I'd need to take vacation time off for that game.

I honestly believe that the Jaguar was very much a misunderstood and overlooked console, not much different than the 5200 as far as reviews go.  It did feel like an underground console and I am glad to have been able to experience it while that Atari was still around.  It truly is a remarkable part of gaming history.

What has been said here that makes you want to ignore the thread or someone who has posted in it? Is it simply because the topic is about something Reboot has released?

No. You could do it in C. On the GPU.

The workaround for the GPU hardware bug still needs to be found for it.
