So yesterday I got a box with 50 2600 games in it for free. Pretty awesome little score. I found a defender cart with a strange label on the front ( see attached ) where is this cart from. Whats it worth, if anything? Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Earth Attack (Defender) is a Zellers cart.

Stargate was the follow-up to Defender in the arcades. It had little warp zones, was more difficult, but very similar to Defender.  It's very interesting that Atari chose to change the name to Defender 2.  I'll bet it's because a lot of people knew Defender, but never heard of Stargate.

PS - IMO, Stargate/Defender 2 is the very best arcade conversion on the 2600.

I remember the first time ever seeing "Stargate".....my local Showbiz Pizza Place (New Orleans, LA) had installed about 10 to 12 of them in a row!! I couldn't believe my eyes!! I had never seen that many copies of the same game lined up next to one another!!

Stargate is indeed an awesome arcade game. I actually prefer it to Defender, as it's more interesting -- it's perhaps the first game to contain such enemy variety that the player has to approach each of them with different tactics. Also, it has the first "warp zone" that I'm aware of. I remember thinking that the skip-ahead trick was an incredibly cool idea back when the coin-op came out.

There were some legal reasons for the name-change to Defender II, but I can't recall what they were. The 2600 version certainly looks amazing, but the ship doesn't fire fast enough for me. Part of the fun of either arcade game is that you can blanket the playfield with laser death, depending of course on your ability to rapidly push the fire button.

I say all of this, however, without having given 2600 Stargate / DII much of a chance. Maybe I should take more time with it. I place it alongside Solaris as an amazing technical achievement, without a matching level of enjoyable game-play. Just my opinion -- but I guess that's obvious. :)
