Cousin Mike got a reaction from StormSurge in Greetings from Cousin Mike in Wilmington, NC
    Hello everybody,

I'm new in the forums and wanted to introduce myself to everybody here! My name is Mike, I'm 41 years old and I live in Wilmington, North Carolina. I'm originally from Red Bank, New Jersey and have lived a lot of places like Florida, South Carolina, New Mexico, Texas and New York City. A lot of people like to call me Cousin Mike, or "Space Invader." I've been visiting this site and reading the forums for a while now but just recently signed up. When I come to the forums I enjoy watching YouTube videos from BTBfilms76, nosweargsmer and others.

I'm a hard core video game player and I love video games of ALL kinds. I'm really into emulating retro games. I had a modded Sony PSP with emulators, and now I play retro games on my smart phone modded with emulators that play classic systems. On the first of January I'm getting a new Emerson Android tablet to play retro games with emulation.

I also play a lot of modern gaming, especially Xbox 360. Some of my favorite Xbox games are Forza Horizon, Dirt 3, and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. If you'd like to play with me, my Xbox Live handle is "space invadar". I love getting on Xbox at night and playing with my friends. Their names on there are "JMK" and "FormerWeaponX".

Lately I love to play retro video games. They don't have all the violence and download time, and emulation is free. My first video game system was the Atari 2600 Jr. My dad brought it home for me one day, along with Space Invaders, Asteroids, Ms. Pac-Man, Enduro, and the original Pitfall. I got other video game systems later on, and now I like to collect and play Atari 2600, Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and Game Boy Advanced. Those are my key game systems, and on average I have over 200 games per system.

One cool thing you may not know about me is that Justin is my good friend, and I was there to see the site being built. I've always been really into video games, and about 5 years ago I started hanging out a lot at Lost Ark Video Games. They have arcade games, pinball, used games and T shirts. One day I walked over to watch this big guy trying to set the world record on Out Run. It turned out it was Justin, and we got to talking about video games and became friends. Then it seemed like every time I'd go to the Lost Ark I'd see Justin playing arcade games or pinball.

The more I hung out at the Lost Ark the better friends I got to be with Justin. I gotta say he became like a brother to me when I needed one most. When I was down on my luck he helped me with getting a new job and when I was in a car accident he drove me to and from my new job to make sure I didn't lose it. He became like a brother to me and is the big reason I joined the forums. He's been saying for a long time what a great bunch of people there are here and that I should come hang out and make friends. Today I decided I was ready to come find out for myself.

Sometimes Justin and I would hang out on Saturdays whenever he was in town. We'd go get sub sandwiches or meet up at the arcade and he'd order pizza like Spicoli for us to eat while we'd hang out playing games. I remember sometimes at the arcade he'd ask me to help him pick out games for prizes and he showed me a big set of buttons for people in the website.

Sometimes on Saturdays I'd go over to Justin's house and we'd play games for Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Lynx, Jaguar, Turbo Duo, Nintendo NES and Super Famicom. Some of my favorite Atari 7800 games Justin and I would play are Pole Position II, Dig Dug, Centipede, Xevious, and Food Fight. Some of my favorite NES games we'd play are Super Mario Bros., Zelda, and The Adventures of LOLO. My all-time favorite video games are the Ninja Gaiden series on the NES.

I also was there on the "maiden voyage" to see the site being made. I remember when it was just bare bones. One day I was at the arcade and Justin was telling me about this Atari video game website he wanted to make. He said he was designing it to be really nice and was really excited about it. He got me excited about it too. Every time I'd go over to his house I got to see the different stages of the website being born. The first time I saw it it was mostly a blank white page. It had the black bar at the top with the title and a little blurb of text. I remember the 4th time I saw it was the day he got all the fonts to work. That was a big day. I remember he showed me the page about Atari Jaguar and it had all the fonts nice and big with changing pictures at the top, and it really looked great. The site came alive for me that day and I could really see what he was making. I thought it was really cool. And just when I thought he was all finished he said there's another month to go to build the forums. When it finally launched I thought it looked beautiful, it's really nice and as good as it could possibly look.

Now, after 2 years, I'm finally ready to be a part of this wonderful community! I didn't join right away because I wasn't that good at typing, but I've gotten a lot better. Now I'm also starting to make YouTube videos which I can share here too. I'm excited to finally come home to a great community of wonderful people that loves playing video games as much as I do. I'd like to consider ALL of you my friends, and if you're ever in the area or on Xbox live I'd love to meet up with you for some good gaming! Here's to all the good times ahead!

    Sincerely,

    Mike

StormSurge is NSG approved for a reason.  They are very polite and a great person to deal with.  I had the pleasure of performing a VCS modification for them.  I got something in return for the work I did that I was not expecting.  You will not go wrong dealing with StormSurge.  I could never thank them enough for what they sent me.  It gets used heavily.

that is so true, think of it this way, when i first played pit fall on the 2600, i was hooked on the game, because it was so much fun to play, if at the time there were big top dollar game systems out there just like there are now, but i had never seen one of those games being played, i still would have loved the game pit fall and after i saw the new games systems out there and saw some of the games that they have now, i would still have a place in my heart for pit fall just the same.

    Welcome to the forums Mike!

It goes without saying that most of these children have never been exposed to classic video games that go back as far as Atari. First impressions make a huge impact on persuading them to pick up the joystick and play.

I think if their first exposure to classic video games is with a game that holds up well, one of the best video games on a given system (as Ms. Pac-Man is on Atari 5200) it's bound to make a positive impression and be fun for the whole family  Other games may not have held up as well and may not make as strong a first impression, but they may still prove to be fun to discover once they've opened the door with a game like Ms. Pac-Man.

Amazing stuff and can't wait to see what you come up with.

My gaming resolution for 2017 is to take my YouTube channel a bit more serious. Maybe stop using my cell for everything and start editing on a simple lap top with a simple editor. Create more often and on a schedule. Build up and work on the Milieu Macabre part of my pages.

    As far as collecting:
    Focus on 2600/7800 carts
    Find a Tele-Games Heavy 6'r
    Find a 7800 console
    Build up a Coleco library
Find a Tele-Games Super Video Arcade and build on that library. Mainly because its a sexy unit!

My checking account got hacked over the holiday weekend (showing -32K) and they are working on it, but once that is clear I am going hog wild looking for 2600/7800 carts. Well within reason anyway!!!!

    Happy New Year Everyone!!!!

    Happy 2017 Atari.io! It's resolution time!

I don't know if anyone else does this but over the last few years, in addition to recommitting to working out and eating better, I also set gaming goals for the year. These have ranged from starting a YouTube channel to beating a certain game. And like my healthy living goals, these gaming resolutions are frequently abandoned by February.

This year, my Gaming Resolution is to spend at least two hours with each of my Atari Jaguar games and keep a gaming journal - perhaps a blog - with my impressions on each one. I have a complete retail collection, the post-JTS releases from Telegames and Songbird, and several homebrews so this will end up being quite a commitment. The point of this resolution is to spend more time gaming and less time just collecting.

What's your Gaming Resolution for 2017? It can be any gaming related goal that you'd like to accomplish in the new year. Share below!

I have this.  Every possible 2600 game you could imagine is in that archive.  It's a great way for those of us who don't like to buy a game without trying it first.  That's what I've been doing to pinpoint which 2600 games I would want in my collection and those I could live without.  I'm out for games I will play and enjoy.  My space is limited so I don't need games and systems I will never touch.

Here is the description from the site - Atari 2600 VCS ROM Collection

    Dear guest,

Having been an avid Atari 2600 game player in the eighties, I was more than happy to discover that the games I used to play as a kid could be re-experienced on my PC by downloading the proper ROMs and playing them on an emulator. For me, it was like finding back little bits of childhood memories and the main reason to start "hunting" ROMs on the Internet.

But while collecting, I noticed that many ROM sets on the net contained bugged .bin files (the so called "bad dumps") and that many ROMs carried incomplete names that often lacked the correct game information.

In order to give these ROMs their proper names, I started studying the games they belonged to. That was the moment I entered the amazing world of the Atari 2600 and also the beginning of a new "hobby".

I found out that, although there were only a little more than 500 different games made for the Atari 2600, almost all of these games were re-released many times, in many forms, under many different names and by many different companies, creating an incredible range of more than 10,000 different cartridge releases (of which more than 8,000 are now archived in our database).

While working my way through fifteen years of VCS gaming history, discovering all kinds of strange and funny looking "pirates", never released prototype games, interesting background stories and fascinating label artwork, I gathered an enormous amount of information which I systematically tried to cram into these filenames.

Now, after almost ten years of collecting and researching, the result of all this work can be downloaded below. I'm very proud to present you my personal Atari 2600 ROM collection here on Atarimania and I truly hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

Please don't let the long filenames scare you off. You'll get used to them and trust me: they form an excellent source of Atari 2600 game information, which can be very useful for any serious Atari game collector and fan.

In short: if you're looking for an ordinary Atari 2600 ROM set, look elsewhere. It can be found almost everywhere on the Internet without too many problems. If you're looking for the most genuine and best documented Atari 2600 ROM collection in the world, then look no further: this is the place to be.

    Have fun.

I use to play keyboards as a hobby and I played bass for a church in my hometown that performed the Christian Alternative music like Hillsong and Tomlin. I miss getting to play but couldn't afford an instrument right now. If I could, though, I'd easily go and get a Yamaha MM model keyboard. But, I'm not much for weighted keys and usually stick with the Yamaha PSR series boards.
