  1. Another thought...

JJ & Jeff is on there, which is good for Japanese players.  In Japan it was Kato chan and Ken chan, a licensed game based on a television show.  With the unlicensed TurboGrafx version on there, Japanese players can play it without Konami having to pay the license.

Saw this point on discord, so I can't take credit for thinking of it myself.

Edit:  Instead of "unlicensed TurboGrafx version", I should say, the "license-free TurboGrafx version".  lol... it's not like it's some bootleg game or a Wisdom Tree kind of thing...

  2. Full line up announced!  Looks like both the NA and Japanese versions will be getting the same games.  Not sure on European version as I haven't really looked into it much and the news is still new.

A couple of problems, though...  Seems that it will have both TG and PCE versions of Dungeon Explorer, Neutopia I and II, and Y's Book I & II.  Why?  That's wasted space in NA as 99% of people are only going to play one or the other.  Also, there's a few games that are missing that people are already complaining about.  No Splatterhouse.  No Gate of Thunder.  No Legendary Axe games.  I think Konami could have done better by eliminating the doubles and adding in those other games.  But, they didn't ask me.  lol

Also, Snatcher is here, but... will it be translated?  If not, more wasted space for the NA version.

On the plus side, that all means that we will be getting the excellent Castlevania Dracula X Rondo of Blood.

  3. I don't have many McDonald's toys in my collection, but I did get the Mario one hitting the yellow box from this set.  My gf works at a thrift store and brought it home one day.

I also have a red koopa shell that you pull back and let go and it runs across the floor for a bit.  Think it's also a McDonald's thing, but not quite sure.

  4. Played a little more of it the other day.  Was testing out streaming on the Xbox One.  (I've started doing some streaming on Twitch... not much, but it's fun.)  Anyway, I need either a new controller or to fix the one I have.  I don't like using the thumbstick for this and my d-pad has issues.  It's doing a double or triple click when I press left, so while going one direction (when pressing right on the d-pad) everything is fine, but going the other direction (pressing left) it kind of hesitates and stutters, throwing timing off and making things more difficult.

I did still get a new high score (for me) though, so it's not all bad.  Still hate that the enemies congregate at the top when you die and don't start over at the bottom like in 2000.  That seems a major flaw to me and makes recovering from a death super difficult.

  5. I play Sonic 1 somewhat regularly.  It's the only video game I can get my girlfriend to play.  I even have pictures of her playing it!  lol

Many moons ago, she was struggling to get by with no car and nothing to do but go to work and come home.  The only thing she had to do at home was play Sonic and she actually beat it.  (Probably not with all the Chaos Emeralds, but still...)  So every once in a while we sit down and pass the controller back and forth.  She starts out and I take over when she dies, then when I die, she takes over and so on until we get tired of it or frustrated with the levels.  (That water one... I guess after spring zone?...  gets us every time.)

  6. Pretty sure I just had one of my best games of Sonic ever...  got three out of four emeralds and all the way to the Spring Zone on one man.  Beat the second level boss (the one that drops fire on the two platforms) with no rings!

Anyway, my score for this challenge - 112950.  Wish I had take video.  I need to get a capture thing...

Played on Genesis model 2, game on the Genesis 6-Pak cart.

Oh and check to make sure your difficulty switch is on "B".  That wide ship on your pizza pic indicates it's on "A".

Yeah... that was right after I switched on the system.  It was still on A from playing something else.  I switched to B before actually playing.  No way I would have gotten as far as I did if I had that fat ship.  lol

  8. I'm calling a handicap on this one!  lol... my 2600 has seen better days... and my TV is trying to go out...  may download it and try it via emulation... or on my Flashback portable...

Anyway, the moving shields are more annoying to me than the zigzag missiles.  I think I do better once they disappear.  Score is hard to read on here, but it was 3800.   (Also, bonus pizza pic!)

  9. I never thought of it as having levels... at least not in the traditional sense.  It's not an open world, it's pretty linear, but it never felt like I went from level to level.... more like I just continued a story.  It's been a while since I played, though, so I might have to go through it again to see if it feels like there are distinct levels.  Maybe it does and the design was just good enough to blur them a bit.

I do really like the art style in the game.  The kinda 20's art deco stuff was really a change from most FPS style games, I thought.  And the sound when you hear the Big Daddies was always kinda chilling.  The game has a great ambiance.

My first time I tried playing it... I kinda soft locked myself.  I got to a point and didn't have enough ammo to fight the baddies I was supposed to go through.  I set it down, frustrated, and didn't return for a while.  Then came back later and started a new game and I guess tweaked my gameplay somehow and pretty much went start to finish.

I also couldn't harvest the little sisters.  lol... just couldn't do it.
