I have never seen that commercial! Why does Neptune have a horde of pirate submarines at his command? It seems like it should have been sharks and merfolk.

It took a couple months, but I finally snagged a copy. Good stuff! I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

It's fun time - I always end up getting frantically worked up playing it!  The most unforgettable piece of Seaquest is definitely the TV ad for it 😆 - they don't make 'em like that anymore!

The first Activision game to hit the series is Seaquest (1983). I love Steve Cartwright's work on the 2600. Barnstorming, Seaquest, Megamania, Frostbite...great stuff.
Seaquest is one I came to as an adult.  I love the bright colors and simple but challenging gameplay. I really wanted a patch worthy score, but it was not to be...
What do you think of Seaquest?

@TrekMD - I just looked up the ZPH video on the homebrew port. Amazing stuff. I hope it gets a release somewhere. Not a ton of info on it surprisingly.

I'll have to look for that.  I'd love to see this with arcade accurate sprites on the 7800.

I've always enjoyed this version of the game.  There's a homebrew version that is almost complete that is as arcade-accurate as it gets.

The 2600+ Casual Play series returns to Saturday morning with another 7800 game: Mario Bros.
I always thought it was wild that Atari released this port in 1988, presumably under the earlier (pre-NES) licensing agreement. It's a solid port and probably the best of the three Nintendo properties to make it to the 7800.

Robotron shows off the 7800s color palette and is a smooth running game. No slowdown at all, unlike the 5200 version which does experience occasional slowdown. Total twin-stick goodness.

Yeah, $35.00 X 12 months is $420.00 a year... for commercials?  Nope, not gonna happen.  But according to this...

... it's currently only $ 179.88 before tax.  Even so, I can wait a few weeks and bundle my orders.  I can still use my Alexa, but maybe not for music.

Agreed!  The idea of paying that much month for commercials on top of the lousy delivery service is not something I care to encourage.

Here's another reason to drop Prime subs...starting in Jan. 29 they will start showing "limited" ads in all their Prime Video movies and shows.  Like I'm already paying them too much money even thjough I still have to rent or buy half their content anyway, and it's not enough for them??  And they already have an ad-supported streaming service called FreeVee so WTF!?
This will be my final month so I can finish up watching a series on the BritBox subchannel in a few weeks.  After that I can take the Prime sub money and put it towards buying a season of a show I still have to do anyway.

Though I have had delays, they have not been frequent.  I live in Miami, though, and they have a distribution center right in the area, which likely helps.  I even have the option to pick up stuff at the nearby WholeFoods market.  I can see the frustration of paying for the service and not having the advantage it is supposed to offer.  I take it you don't want their content?

Why do I continue to pay for Amazon Prime?  At least half my packages are late, so much for two day shipping!  In this case they waited three days before sending it, and on the fourth day they tell me it'll be another day.  I think I'm going to cancel soon.  If I want to buy something small, I'll just wait until I can place an order over $25.00 to get the free shipping, because with the delays I'm paying for essentially nothing.

I was just playing Lucas Art's LOOM on TurboDuo this weekend! Very cool example of this type of early '90s computer adventure game that lead to greats such as Myst.

Loom is one of my favorites of the era. And it really cool to see it played on the PS/2 like in that video. As that is how I first saw the game when my best friend at the time first got it and that was how we played the game. Although, once I bought the game for myself a few months later, I played it with Adlib audio. It wasn't until much later.. .like over a decade later, that I got to experience the game as it was meant through my LAPC-I sound board so I could finally hear the MT-32 soundtrack the game first came with.
My only complaint in the video, is that when he shows the VGA graphics, it is apparent that a filter is being used like an HQ2 method or something because it looks far too smoothed out and that is why it looks off. Without such a filter in place the VGA graphics actually really good. But he is correct in that the 'talkie' version of the game features shorter music sections being played, and the dialog was cut quite a bit. Other things added/stripped is that the closeups of character faces was removed in the CD version but the extra scene he talks about if you play the game on hard on the EGA version I believe is always shown in the VGA version regardless of difficulty chosen.
I only the game now as the 'talkie' version boxed as I had a tendency back then to give away my older floppy disk versions of my games when I bought the newer versions on CD later. But, I did make sure to still have George 'The Fatman' Sanger sign my copy of Loom as he was responsible for the soundtrack compilations in all versions of the game. In fact, the digital audio music played in the CD version is just the MT-32 soundtrack recorded. But again, the full pieces of the music don't play on the CD version as they do on the EGA original release with an MT-32.
There was very much a certain type of magic when playing the game and it was quite different when it was released back then as compared to most. But yes, Loom along with another Lucasarts later release of The Dig are two of my favorites in this genre for PCs back in the day.

Loom… If the name sounds familiar, then you probably were a kid or a teenager in the 80s, just like me.
If you played this game not long after it came out, as I did in 1991, then you can understand the kind of enchantment it was back then.
Loom wasn’t really groundbreaking. It didn’t bring any major change to the gaming scene. But it perfected an existing genre: it brought the graphical adventure to a new level of maturity. You could expect no less from Lucasfilm Games, and this project led by Brian Moriarty was a masterpiece of its own.
Loom has superior graphics, soundtrack, and an ironclad scenario. It also adds a little touch of its own to the point & click adventure games, with a unique user interface based on musical notes.
All these aspects put together make Loom an outstanding game despite its few drawbacks, the main one being its simplicity level. So let’s dive deeper into this mysterious and enchanting universe.
ZERO footage from emulators was used to make this video!
Only the actual CRT screen pixels are shown!
    Enjoy 🙂

Alien Brigade Asteroids Food Fight Ms. Pac-Man Robotron (Twin-Stick goodness) *Note: My wife and I love to play Centipede Trak-Ball edition. You can play co-op or dual player competition, which allows you to shoot your opponent. That's nasty!
I won't list a top-five for homebrews, because its become impossible to do so. Our talented developers have made soo many good games, its hard to chose five and the five continue to change, year over year. I do feel that I have to mention Baby Pac-Man as this homebrew title is a home console exclusive. Maybe Atari can work something out with PacManPlus and get this cart re-issued for the 2600+ (which plays, via emulation 7800 games). This would make it available again to the masses.

I'd second A.R.T.I., which is also available for the modern VCS. The VCS is a great way to check out 7800 games, including homebrew, for far less than a physical cart.

@Cryptocoffee13 I also want to recommend A.R.T.I. It's not the cheapest homebrew, but it's worth it. In my opinion it's better than H.E.R.O. and I love the cut scenes with the old man and the airplane. This is a nicely done game on the level of what I'd like to see Atari release for the 7800 and 2600+
