  1. It's Feb 2 -- time to re-watch this film:

RE:  Jack Frost.  I wasn't familiar with it until I visited Canada a long time ago and saw it on TV there.  I don't remember much about it other than first being delighted to have a new-to-me Rankin/Bass show to watch, and then disappointed at how strange it was.  Well, that was a good 25 years ago.  Maybe I should give it another go.

Honestly I think Jack Frost is probably the best Rankin/Bass special. Though it's not particularly a high bar.

  2. My thumb gasped when I told it the challenge was Joust. It's over in the corner rocking back and forth in panic.
  3. I can help you with emulation if you need it. You might also look into one of the two SD-cart solutions for 7800. Then you can have all the games on one cartridge.
  4. I agree. If it works without having to fiddle with controls and settings, I'm in. https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Fightstick-Controller-Raspberry-Preloaded/dp/B08MFFV8TT/ref=asc_df_B08MFFV8TT/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=475825773734&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15415624524144178050&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9032884&hvtargid=pla-1145700875709&psc=1
  5. It's a great game! Also of note - the Intellivision port of BurgerTime is outstanding. It's a game that showcases how much the Intellivision was capable of.
  6. Colecovision content will always get a thumbs up from me. It was a great system and I wish I had more time to play mine more often. I really like those Super Action controllers a lot. I think they are a lot more comfortable to use than the regular controllers. Why were so many companies obsessed with side mounted buttons back then? They are TERRIBLE and just end up hurting your thumb.
  7. The Kung Fu cart for Commodore 64 arrived this week, and it works really nicely. This is the product I've been wanting for a long time -- just load game images of any type onto a micro-SD, turn on the C64, and choose them from a menu. No typing, minimal waiting. It's so awesome.

And also a view of my home-made "safe" C64 power adapter.  I soldered in modern 5V and 9V bricks into a 5-pin DIN plug, and add in a Ray Carlson safety device just for full safeness.

Wow, that's a neat setup! What's the price for that cart?

Notes so far after playing with it for a few days.

      • CRT/PRG files work fine and load FAST.
      • D64 support is spotty.  Some work, some don't.
      • I expect firmware updates will address some issues
      • The "reset" and "menu" buttons are really super nice.  Great features.
      • Overall, huge thumbs up for this product.  I'm so happy to have it.  SD2EIC is nice, but a lot more difficult to use.  I prefer this by a factor of 100.  Just because it's so much easier to use.

  8. Sweet! I was going to play tonight, but I've been wrestling with snow and other issues here at home.
  9. I finished the book a few days ago. RickR review: Excellent. I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves Atari retro gaming.
  10. Happy Monday, everyone!  This one has been cracking me up since yesterday.

  11. I've got to tell you, Q-Bert on 2600 is surprisingly good! For one thing, it's the rare version that's actually easy to control (the manual says it best -- turn the controller 45 degrees so the button is on top like a baseball diamond). I rarely fall off the pyramid in this version. The animations are missing, and that makes it hard to tell which way the bad dudes are going to go. But overall, the gameplay from the arcade version is all there.
  12. Tutorial done, and also first job done (brakes). This is fun!
  13. Alright, I'm in! There's a benchmark, and of course I have to try that first. Computer Nerd Alert! Here's my results on this game. The graphics are nice.
  14. Hey look! It's on sale for $8. I will try to remember to purchase this weekend.
  15. I completely agree @Justin. I'm having serious doubts about this. But I'm not sure there's any good alternative. For all it's faults, ebay does work for selling (and buying). I think I may just hold off as long as possible and see if they come up with something more reasonable. Why not allow a credit card instead of a bank account?
  16. E-mail. The subject line is "Getting paid on eBay has changed." and it came on Jan 12. I can also see it in the "My Ebay" messages link. When I try to create a listing now, it won't let me continue until I set that up.
  17. I remember when eBay and Paypal were the same corporate entity. Paypal got split off, and it seems like this moment of "cutting them out" has been in the plans for a long time.
  18. I should also mention that it should reduce fees for sellers. No more Paypal fees.
  19. It doesn't explicitly say whether Paypal payments will still be accepted. I do know they accept credit card payments directly through e-bay right now. I'm not sure what the protections are.
  20. Who else has concerns? Essentially, they will no longer allow Paypal payments. For sellers, they are asking for: Your SSN (why, I'm not sure). A real bank account - to deposit sale payments and also to withdraw fees. On the plus side: They won't take fees until buyers pay. Why did this simple change take so long? I still sell on ebay. My plan is to come up with a free savings account and use that. All of this starts Feb 1 I think. Your thoughts, please.
  21. Harry, I cannot imagine you lacking courage. But I'm sure the virus makes things much more challenging.
  22. Retro resolution - I want to finish NES Legend of Zelda. I started the game a few times in 2020 but never finished!
