PSA: If you haven't checked out the VCS holiday sale, do yourself a favor. 50% off of many titles, including Atari 50, the excellent Recharged series and many awesome indie games.
-
I haven't! My game room is occupied like a hotel room for guests, but it should be clear today.
Thanks!

PSA: It looks like Gamestop is getting out of the VCS business. The All-In Onyx Edition is cut to $99.
That's an AMD Ryzen mini-PC with 2 controllers for $99. Even if you were going to tinker or use it as an emulation station, it's a heck of a deal.

These are now sold out! Did anyone here besides Rick snag one at this price?
-
Thanks for that video. I need all the help I can get.

PSA: It looks like MicroCenter is down to their last Atari VCS in Fairfax, VA at $249 for the All-In Edition bundle.
Many folks have been successful in getting Best Buy to price match using the online portal. That opportunity will close once MicroCenter is sold out. Regular price is $399 for that bundle.

I had a new unit and can confirm this fixes the new user update issue/experience. From stock BIOS to fully updated in 26 minutes!
This is great news for new users.

PSA: MicroCenter has in-store only sales on the Atari VCS All-In for $250. It's only available locally so if you live near a store and its in stock, now might be a good time! Unfortunately, our only Southern CA location is sold out.

PSA: The new Atari VCS is on sale at Microcenter for $249. This in-store only promotion nets you the Black Walnut All-In edition. Retailers elsewhere remain at full price ($399).
If you're curious or need a new mini-PC and live near a Microcenter, now could be a good time.

Someone also posted a tutorial on how to install macOS natively on an Atari VCS. He calls himself Middleman. It seems interesting, but a little technical for me to do. But then, I don't own a VCS, but maybe I might in the future. I don't know. But, it's neat. :O)

Prices at Microcenter are back up to $399 but (anecdotally) they sold quite a few. Many locations are sold out. $249 seems to be a sweet spot pricewise for the VCS.
Game Stop is now running a promotion for $279 for the All-In Onyx edition - which is their tribute to the Vader.
-
That's still a great price for the VCS, considering it's normally close to $400.00 average retail value. Interesting.

PSA: There is less than one week left in our Donut Dodo Recharged Squad Challenge at ClubVCS!
Folks, this is the best arcade game from 1983 made and published in 2022. How high can you get!?

R.I.P. Fry's Electronics.
Fry's closed all locations on Wednesday with no forewarning. It was one of the last places I could still buy electronics components in-person. Need a 7805 regulator for that ailing 2600? How about a few resistors for that AV mod? Replacements for a leaky cap? They had me covered without the wait of an online order.
It was a quirky, hodgepodge type store with a lot of "As seen on TV" products along side computer, electronics and stereo equipment. It shall be missed.

I agree. I'm going to miss them.
There's a lot of hate on-line about Fry's that I don't quite get. A lot of people lost jobs. And I'm really going to miss being able to go and actually see and touch the items I need. Sometimes, you need that ability to help decide how to solve a particular problem.
Fry's. R.I.P. You will be missed.

One of the only stores I would just go to just to browse/walk around.
Each store, perhaps a bit outdated, had a decore and even store exterior around a theme with my favorites being the Aztec and ancient Egypt. For example in the Egypt theme store had some computer display desks where supported by large black ancient cats rather than desk legs and hieroglyphics on the walls.
Will also miss going there to find cables that other stores don't stock in store.
For the year prior the pandemic could tell it was going down hill fast as the shelves were half empty and with poor online solution could tell they were not going to make it long when the pandemic hit.

Scored a Concerto cart for the 7800 last night! It's been hard to snag one of these things. Woot!

So I scored Astal for Sega Saturn a week ago on eBay. It was advertised in great shape with the case intact. The seller puts it in a priority mail with no bubble wrap or paper which obviously would allow for jostling during shipment. Unsurprisingly, another Saturn case is needlessly ruined. I reached out to the seller explaining the situation and asked for a partial refund of $8 for the case. This is based on the cost of 10 replacement cases from Limited Run. Instead of taking any responsibility for the poor packing, he suggested that I open a claim with USPS stating that the item wasn't damaged when he put it in the box!
I have a real problem with opening a claim because it truly is due to a lack of packing and not USPS. I'd like to keep the game as they are getting harder to come by. Its really not the money at all its the point of the thing. I can't imagine sending a good Saturn case out like that. I know that many of you buy and sell on eBay. Is a negative or neutral rating warranted?

I had a case I mentioned in the "recent finds" forum thread. I bought 3 SMS games. Two of them had the wrong game in the casing. I was able to salvage two of the three. I contacted the seller, and they gave me a 1/3 partial refund. Very fair. I left a positive.

That's the thing isn't it? Even though I was disappointed, if someone tries to make it right or at least acknowledge their responsibility, I'm good. It didn't need to go the way it did.
Also, the 50s board game story is heartbreaking. I don't get that kinda disregard for your customers. At least they refunded your friend.

I had a few cases where the item arrived damaged or didn't match the condition described. I always offered the seller that I'd keep it for a partial refund, and they've always accepted my proposal for a partial refund (usually around $5 on $15-$20 item). I usually don't do this and will just accept the item and go on with my life but have complained in a few instance. In this case, I wouldn't bother with USPS either as Rick suggested. I'd suggest going directly to ebay and reporting that the item arrived damaged and you want a full refund.
A month ago, I bought an Xbox 360 game on ebay. It was supposed to be in "good" condition, but when I got it, most of the cover had water damage. The angle and lighting of the photos in the listing did not show the damage nor was it disclosed. I notified the seller and provided photos. I offered to keep it if he gave me $12 refund (it was $20 + $4 shipping), but he asked me to return it for full refund instead (although the listing indicated that the seller does not accept returns).
At that point, I didn't want to interact directly with the seller, and I triggered ebay's return process. It was very smooth and fast. I was a little surprised to see that the shipping cost would be refunded and ebay even provided a free return shipping label. In all my years of purchasing from ebay, this was my first return. As a consumer, ebay's return process gave me confidence.

Some news coming out of this weekend's BIG Festival in Brazil: Atari to demo two previously announced titles...
A new Haunted House and Quantum Recharged!
Quantum: Recharged should be amazing if its anything like the arcade. I love Atari's willingness to mine deep cuts for the Recharged series.
Looking forward to a new Haunted House too! I wonder if it will be an expansion on Haunted Houses from Atari50 or a whole new game?
