Yep. Watched those GI Joe cartoons followed with Transformer cartoons. Ah the good ol' days. Now a days people see that, Tom & Jerry, and Looney Tunes and it's all, "That's offensive and violent." Blah. What ever happened to good old slapstick comedy? Oh dear...please don't let modern society see the 3 Stooges...someone might get a knot in their drawers.

Cool new interview with Warren Robinett discussing Adventure and his famous Easter Egg!

So awesome.

One of the things that is markedly different than previous iterations of Atari is that Atari SA under its new CEO, Wade Rosen, seems to have been able to reconnect and work with former Atari programmers like Frye, Robinett & HSW. I think all of this reflects a change in tone and approach at Atari.

Currently playing IS3 on the PSOne. I was a huge fan of the Jaguar games and this takes everything developers Eclipse Software learned on the two earlier titles and cranks it to 11. Like IS2, it's a bit on the hard side but still very enjoyable. IS3 was also on the Nuon.
Any fans of this or the other IS games?
-
Oh that's awesome. I've been having fun with the few minutes I have had with Jaguar IS. To know there's an even better version on PS is good to know. I'll have to look for that one.
I was a HUGE fan of PC MechWarrior back in the day. The mech games are a lot of fun.

The PSOne version is easier/more enjoyable to control than the Jaguar version. But it is harder overall. I really like the series and rank it just behind Armored Core. It's a slower type of combat but lots of fun.
If you ever get the PSOne version, be sure to use a CRT. The textures look stunning on a CRT but super muddy on a HDTV - even through an upscale. The Jaguar games look great on both since they are mostly flat shaded polygons with some bitmaps textures.
-
Loved IS on Jaguar, missed IS2, never knew IS3 was released on the PSOne. Like @RickRsaid... I'll have to look for it.

Did you see the sweet prize that we're giving away for this series of the Club VCS Recharged Squad Challenge? It might seem silly, but the Atari Speaker Hats are surprisingly functional! 😉
A winner will be announced between now and mid-August! Series Four kicks off tomorrow and runs through December 31st!

I didn't pick up on that until you pointed it out but I see it. I don't know if Atari has the rights to Jinks, but that game has a lot of potential if they can make it right. "A Paddle Platformer" where the paddle is like Mario, moving through a side-scrolling world with endless beautiful levels to explore. Admittedly, 7800 Jinks is unique in some ways and lacking in others. Maybe Jinks: Recharged could fulfill this side scrolling paddle potential
-
Very much so. Now that you've pointed it out, that's all I see!

I completely agree! I'm interested to see if it creates a lot more interest in the Jaguar

RE: Rayman, I realize playing it now that it doesn't really have a score, per se. We would have to do something creative like percent complete without continues.
For raw scores, Tempest 2K, Defender 2K, Missile Command 3D, Zero5 and Raiden would be good. Also, the GOOD racing games for best times/time trial.

For some inexplicable reason I woke up with that old Great White song Once Bitten, Twice Shy in my head. Some random MTV/FM radio childhood memory hidden in the recesses of my mind.
It's a horribly dated song and one that I've never liked. But it was everywhere at the time. It's strange how these things randomly surface.

For those interested in this sort of thing, here is the required mid-year report for Atari SA as of 9/30/2022. Interesting mentions of the VCS for you tea leaf readers out there.
These results are ahead of the release of Atari Mania, Missile Command Recharged and Atari50 so a lot of costs ahead of revenues. Assuming their Year End report for March won't be as bleak.
-
For the Hardware section, I think it means the VCS is still in production...just manufactured externally now. That's how I read it anyway.
The financial numbers are not good. I hope every gamer here who appreciates the new direction of Atari understands...WE NEED TO SUPPORT THEM as best we can by buying hardware and software. The games they've been producing have been outstanding. -
You're 💯 @RickR! The last few years have been the best output from Atari since at least the Hasbro-era, if not the Tramiel-era. Fans who appreciate the change in direction need to support the company.
The Recharged titles have been excellent and new IP like Kombinera is inventive and in the spirit of old Atari, and the VCS is a great achievement from such a small team. I understand skepticism among old skool fans, the XP debacle and crypto. That said, credit where credit is due.

From the maker of the excellent Donut Dodo comes Cash Cow DX! I highly recommend checking out the demo on Steam available now as a part of Steam Next Fest. I didn't wrap up work until 9 (budget season) and as soon as I logged off, I downloaded this and played for 45 minutes straight. With a game over every 3 minutes or so, that's 15 games! I did eventually make it to level 1-2. LOL
Anyway, if you like Donut Dodo, check it out !

Going through my boxed 7800 games to confirm gaps in the retail library. I have six left but they are the $$$ ones.
Here's also some loose oddball, repros, and homebrew from before they came with boxes. I'll have to get these from Marc eventually.

Got the rest of my patches for the back of my Recharged battle jacket. Not committed to placement yet...
Also, sewing....

Happy 30th Anniversary Atari Jaguar!
Celebrate by posting your best score in our cross-platform Tempest 2000 Squad Challenge!
-
Happy Atari Day everyone!
I celebrated by doing a quick side-by-side raw video capture comparison of Tempest 4000 on the VCS vs. PS4 Pro. There is no commentary here. Just Minter's psychedelic brand of arcade tunnel shooter!
The VCS version is nearly identical although I do notice the leading edge of each web seems slightly smaller at times.
