  1. Legally distinct!  In Adventure you can control the bat somewhat by being grabbed whilst in a dragons body.  Since you are the bat in my game I made sure you *felt* like a crazy flying mammal.  At times the bat seems to want to bolt in his own direction.  Also, he can fly over pesky  barriers briefly.

Knabber Rob also has an echo location effect that points you to the next appropriate chest.  Figured that might be more fun than completely random flight over two 256 screen maps :)

  2. Côté Gamers is starting to release info for Knabber Rob - an original Atari 2600 game made by me :)

The basic concept is:  what if you were the erratic, thieving bat from a certain adventurous game?  What if the Evil Wizard tasked you with hauling the items back into their respective chests?

It's a one player affair with 3 difficulty levels and two different 256 screen maps.  The last difficulty level randomizes parts of the map.

    Although it's a europeon release it's also NTSC/PAL60 friendly.

Please ask questions and/or hit me with feedback :)

  3. That's pretty darn comprehensive!!  Thank you for the super huge spreadsheet of homebrew knowledge!

Yeah, I also remember Neo Games releases go into the 60+ range.  So, it may be more normal than I at first imagined.   Which is a great thing in general.  Still, a huge investment for one indie developer.

Hitting a viable 100 range seems to involve more remakes of already well known titles.  I dun think completely new, original titles have the same oomf.  Especially since I'm dirt dumb when it comes to publicity :)

  4. So, for my own personal interest (as well as my own game making reasons) I'm wondering how many new Atari 2600 games started at 100 copies.

I'm not sure I can plunk down for that many boards at a time being a one man game development house.  It sounds like a lot compared to other homebrew runs I've seen.

What's the average?  What have y'all seen in the past?

Is that suppose to be a dragon in that picture?

Depends on which generation of consoles you grew up with ~_^

I made a game called Candybar for the Atari 2600.  In order to not infringe on Atari Adventure I made my own personal take on their duckbill dragons.  Used the same sprite here.

  6. Didn't know the Super Pitifall link was down.  Will look into an alternate.

Bacon Blast was the physical release of BLT Blast.  A vendor needed some extra cash so I authorized him to make physical copies.  I tried the digital thing with BLT Blast.

Destiny was sort of an experiment / proto C@tacombs of Chaos.  I found a technique to split rooms into 3 parts which allowed me to mix and match saving space.

Tunnels & Trolls is an authorized RPG I have license for.  It was / is meant to be a 256k ROM title.  I'm never quite %100 percent confident that people can physically make the cart so it's kind of been in limbo.  I may go sega genesis on this instead.

The Walking Dead was a one shot cartridge I wanted signed at a convention.  Me and Neo Games came up with a better game idea and Zombie Road Kill was born.

As for the future I've got 3 new titles I should be working on.  Been slow going due to some personal rough patches.

  7. More questions:  What other games have you worked on?

    Thanks

    That have had physical releases?

  8. Hey, thanks for the review RickR (and input from fellow Atari.io'ers).

I'm glad the lack of flicker got noticed.  I got to email Howard Scott Warshaw and tell him about the Yars Revenge-like effect when you beat the boss.

I think Joe and I have a deal where I can make some "developer" editions.  Though, I've been stuck in the mud with other projects.

I'll definitely check back here if people have more questions!

  9. Oh, yeah.  I forgot to mention I'm not really promoting this.  Just showing it off to my friends.  Good Deal Games can do the marketing themselves.

If y'all have feedback - even "WTF is this?!?" - then please tell me about it.  I try to improve my games each time by getting feedback from fellow retro gamers.

    Thanks!

  10. Got a new sega genesis game coming to the PRGE courtesy of Good Deal Games!

War in the Machine is an arcade shooter with a difference: you are one of two bases that launch fighter ships at enemies.  Each enemy is procedurally generated including its movement pattern.  The larger boss class enemy inherits the best rated movement pattern.  Although shields never regenerate the C button renders the base invulnerable (but prone.)

Should be available at the Portland Oregon Retro Gaming Expo and the Good Deal games storefront shortly.

Oh, and, if you have something like chromadepth glasses (think Crayola 3D glasses) then it's 3D :)

  11. Thought I'd make a new post since this is different from the PRGE edition.

I've got a custom Game Panic 2 for the Sega Genesis available to order.

    https://www.etsy.com/listing/496262397/game-panic-2-for-the-sega-genesis

Basically, if you request (on Etsy) I can put a picture and message of your choice into the game!  I personally sign the manual and, maybe..  there's a secret mini toy inside!

$40 bucks shipped within US.  International shipping may require additional costs.

  12. I saw the upcoming games list here:

    http://forums.atari.io/index.php/blog/3/entry-15-2016-atari-vcs2600-homebrews-as-of-41716/

    Releasing Soon (actual software)

previewed at 2015 Houston ArcadeExpo - Conjoined, Laughing Boy - Jason Schelhorn/Hozer VG

Joe Grisaffi decided on AtariAge for publishing carts.  Because of the bad reputation Hozer VG has on AtariAge I would like this changed.  I messaged the topic creator on this.

Just trying to clear up some confusion.  Albert doesn't like Hozer VG.  If I'm associated with that then maybe I don't get carts that can hold the largest 2600 game ever.  So, yeah.. :)
