  1. Ramping up dev on a port of C@tacombs of Chaos first released on the Atari 2600.  Got a leeetle too ambitious in my game design for a sequel.  So, I'm starting with the gameplay already present and working my way up.  This was my attempt at making a rogue-like for Atari.  Also, an excuse to pay homage to Adventure Creator.

    Going for a de-make style similar to the Gameboy Color.  Often you'll see sprites with 4 colors or less.  But, I do cheat and sneak in more sometimes.  Here be a mock up manually placing 16x16 pixel tiles to look like it's farther along than it really is 😛

  2. I remember someone who I worked with bragging about selling postcards of high priced items.  Basically, hoping suckers would pull the trigger despite warnings in the description.  He'd just make a new account when things got too dicey.

    Not very confident things have changed.

    Very cool machine, I did not ever hear of this before.

    I hope it finds the good home. 💖

    In truth I got grumpy since the community (and creator) seem to be leaning towards ROMs instead of supporting the cart slot for Aq+ games.  For the average Joe ROMs make more sense.  As a retro game developer and publisher I'm enamored with carts.  🙂

    Awesome! Nice to meet you. I'm guessing you worked with John so he could publish your games? I didn't know who made them or when so I wasn't able to report on that on my Atari news show, "That Atari Show" & "Atari Newsline." If you'd ever like to come on the show to discuss these games and talk about how you worked with John I would love to hear it. Great games and thank you!

    I subscribed to your channel so I can catch yer videos.  Hopefully I can provide some useful input and see if you're interested in checking out any new games I cook up.

    Usually I collaborate with John Hancock on games.  He gives me a theme to go for and I whittle it down into something that I can actually program 🙂  He brings carts to expos and charities.  I self publish doing as much production myself as possible.  These last three releases are unusual in that he bought the publishing rights outright.  So, that's why you see them on multiple platforms (physical cart, digital download and VCS).

    I tried to leave this comment on YouTube but it mysteriously went bye bye.  So, i'll post it here 🙂

    Hey there! I’m Gemintronic the developer of those two games. Thought they were destined to be cart only so I was surprised when I discovered they were on the VCS storefront! Hopefully more actual 2600 games get the same treatment. All the code, graphics and sound were done my me. Some screens in the hardest difficulty of Retro Game Quest are procedurally laid out. However, all the room layouts in C@tacombs of Chaos are procedurally generated. A little ashamed that some aspects of our games require reading the manual. Pick up and play is a hallmark of pre-Nintendo gaming. In Retro Game Quest when the timer turns purple you can press FIRE to fly through walls. Also, the red bar at the lower left hand side in C@tacombs is your life. If you pick up a potion you may press FIRE heal your HP. I reached out on Facebork if you have more questions 🙂

    That's great!

    Thank you, Sir!  That means something from a connoisseur of retro gaming like yourself 🙂

    I think 8 Bit Milli did good with his first published 2600 title.  Usually he does Coleco stuff.

    Got nothing but positive feedback on the game itself.  Though, since Zero Page homebrew reads the manual as they play, there was some anxiousness on my part during their stream 🙂

    This looks great!

    "Couch compliant" is hilarious!  I like that feature and name.  🙂

    Can't take credit for that one.  Some major homebrew developers got excited to formalize the concept and I rolled with it.  Also, I've found some YouTubers forget that their difficulty switches are set to PRO and get frustrated during a review 😞  So, now they HAVE to intentionally joystick it into hard mode!

  8. Currently in development!

    Dragon Chalice is a top down adventure.  Planned features include:

    * 1 or 2 player simultaneous (co-op)

    * Over 256+ screens covering 4 kingdoms

    * Limited edition worlds in addition to the above mentioned game layouts

    * Password saving/loading

    * NTSC and PAL60 support

    * %100 percent Couch Compliant (Game can be reset or password saved/loaded from joystick)

    * 8 items, 3 enemies and 1 annoying thief!

  9. For the heck of it made an homage to Birthday Mania.  Good for short runs as it gets unfair fast.

    Happy Birthday!
    A game by Gemintronic, LLC
    Do not resell

    What better way to celebrate than snuffing out candles with a puff or even a hat!

    The title screen displays a message and shows the high score.  Press FIRE to continue.

    Press FIRE to launch a puff into candles for 10 points
    Use LEFT or RIGHT on your joystick to maneuver your hat into candles for 8 points
    Press RESET to clear your score and return to the title
    Setting either difficulty switch to EXPERT (A) reduces your time and increases candle drop rate

    Your score is displayed bottom center on screen
    Each candle that drops off screen deducts time (represented top right from score)

    Your game is over once the time is 0.  You can review your high score or press FIRE to try again.

    * Not every candle can be saved due to reach or bad luck
    * When catching with your hat any candles on the same row have a chance not not deduct time
