    hi everyone,

we are putting up a batch of customer returns we purchased out of atari decades ago. these were returned to atari for various reasons by retailers. many times they are still new, or opened boxes, but complete.

many are still shrink wrapped, but the boxes are poor, that is why many of the games were returned to atari, poor boxes, which made the games unsellable.

we have perhaps thousands of these atari games left in our warehouse. but the boxes were sent to us not sorted, atari just threw them in shipping boxes and sent them. so we are not sure of how many titles of these we have, or their numbers.

so we have no time to sort these boxes out, we will just put up batches for sale. so we will not mix or match or look for certain titles, because we have no time, and i feel the price is right for this batch.

there are titles for Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, and Atari 400 / 800/ XL / XE. there maybe lynx and jaguar ones also in the future!

there will be no warranty on these.

this batch will be $99.95 and includes free shipping if you live in the u.s.a.

this is not an auction, and we are not negotiable on the price, its firm and fair.

to inquire or purchase please include where you live, and email us with your order at video61@atarisales.com, or video61atarisales@gmail.com

please do not internally e-mail me from atari.io

    here are the titles:

    ATARI 7800

    1-asteroids

    1-choplifter

    1-crossbow

    1-centipede

    1-donkey kong jr.

    1-food fight

    1-galaga

That would be neat to see.  The game I meant.  See what differences there are if any.

    hi @Atari 5200 Guy

the disk version has a dos window i think. the cart version has none.

i was in discussion with main street, and the other one based in st. paul which i also bought out, keypunch software, to expand into the 2600, as well as expand into producing carts for the XE.

keypunch did start on some projects, but went belly up.

In this Rare Cars documentary, we go deep into one of the rarest and most overlook dealer built cars in American history, the AMC Gremlin 401-XR. This special V8 powered super hatchback while it was ugly was one of the fastest cars that you could purchase from 1972 to 1974, and almost nobody knows that these even existed. Learn all there is to know about the AMC Gremlin 401-XR in episode 26 of our documentary series on the world's most fascinating cars.

the only gremlin i had, was the typical 6 banger three speed on  the floor.

@Video 61 When you say that you "still have the licenses" does that mean that you own the license to Dandy for certain platforms?

    hi justin,

i have their cart version, as well as their disk version, and the licenses to make a lot of them, more than a life times worth. the only platforms of course are atari ones.

@Video 61 I was surprised Dark Chambers wasn't called Dandy. Dandy came straight out of the Atari Program Exchange. Yet Atari released Gauntlet: The Third Encounter on Atari Lynx.

This is a great conversation on an interesting topic, I may split this off into its own thread :nintendo_mario_1up:

    hi justin,

ownership of dandy went to main street dist. which also owned green valley distribution, load and go and share data. so under jack atari did what they did best, they had the original source. just update and change things a bit, and walla, dark chambers.

i bought out main street distribution and still have the licenses.

yes on the lynx for some reason, jack published atari game games, but not on the 2600, 7800, or XEGS. so instead we got dark chambers(dandy gauntlet), and fatal run(road blasters).

Weird.  My Star gate is Atari Corp.

    hi everyone,

stargate was the sequel to defender, it was a warner/atari release. as you know when jack took over, licensing was a no no, they just changed the name. it was williams i think that owned the game. jacks atari had 1/3ed interest in williams and the atari coin op division.

atari games released many atari brand named games on other platforms, and the lynx. for jack renaming them like fatal run, avoided royalties with the other two atari entities.

I had no idea that the red boxes had a connection to the Jr. The more you know--thanks!

yes! its not so much the 2600 jr. as it's the 2600 in general after Jack Tramiel relaunched the Atari systems in 1986. just like how 2600 and 5200 game boxes had identical designs but different colors in 1982, they did the same thing with the 2600 and 7800 in 1986. 7800 games came in silver boxes, and 2600 games came in red boxes. they all matched and were easy to tell the difference. here are some examples, the 2600 and 7800 boxes are the same design but different color

I wish we had seen more of that! I always felt the Atari 7800 could do almost anything with an extra chip or two on the cartridge board.

@Video 61 explained to me that GCC developed the Atari 7800 to be extremely capable in this area through adding additional RAM to the cartridge board, which was something Jack Tramiel didn't want to do very often as he was competing on price. Maybe Lance has more to add to this?

    hi guys,

commando, impossible mission, winter/summer games and a few others were really good ports. they also used ram boards and one used the pokey. even 32k, and 48k games without the pokey and ram, could really look good and play good, desert falcon comes to mind. but the programmers were hobbled by jacks austerity, and a almost complete lack of knowledge in how the 7800 operated, again courtsy of jack.

I get that image when I have a dirty cartridge which is why I was suggesting it as a first step.

    hi guys,

it sure could be the cart. but if you install, and remove the cart repeatedly, you should get a different reaction on the t.v., maybe colors, more bars, even a display of the game. but if its always the same, the cart might be bad, a good cleaning of course as you guys say could fix it. but in my experience a bad cart will give different results also. if the one bar remains all of the time, hardware is most likely the cause.

    Hello everyone,

I bought an Atari 2600 from FB Marketplace. It's looking like working but vertical lines on the screen as you can see on attached images. I have experience with C64 but haven't experience with Atari 2600.. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

    hi,

first thing i always look at is the power supply. i used to do a lot of service for atari. and i required the customer to send their power supply, t.v. switch box (which hardly anyone uses anymore), joysticks, paddle if they have them for a complete diagnostic.

i always used my own test power supply first. you would be surprised what people used for power supplies, sometimes i would open the box, and i could smell plastic that got to hot, or even melted.

if it was not the power supply, then i would take the top off, pull the shielding, and you will see in most cases, the 2600 had only three chips. some had four, a tiny one called the timer, that was for the paddle controllers in most cases, ignore it. the 6507, which is the main processor, that one usually goes first, power surges, wrong power supplies. the previous owners may not have turned the unit on or off when in installing carts, and removing carts. causes power surges.

find a 2600 chip set if the power supply does not do the trick. i am out. best electronics may still have some,

    https://www.best-electronics-ca.com/

if that does not do the trick, its trouble on the mother board. may not be worth fixing then.

atari gave me 30 minutes per unit. i could fix 50-75% of the units that came in, in that time frame.

You know I've noticed slowdown in games where I doubt there should be any.   The 7800 runs Robotron flawlessly and I've seen it display incredible amounts of visuals and run smooth as butter.   But the other day when playing keystone Koppers I noticed slowdown on screens where all three levels had obstacles and the crook.  Maybe it's because there is some pretty looking backgrounds instead of black but I would think the 7800 should still be fine.   Could that be an effect of 7800basic using a lot of resources?

    hi guys,

the best basic i ever saw was turbo basic on the atari 8-bit. it looked as good, and was as fast as assembly. but it never had a compiler made for it, and it required a run time program.

otherwise basic is really slow even with lots of data statements. get a few sprites going, or get going fast and you really notice the slowdowns.

    Hi Lance,

I'm referring specifically to the outboard motor on the back of the boat that says "MERCURY" in big letters at the top. A different "Mercury" than the Ford division, but still mind boggling to see it on that crazy boat.

    hi justin,

did not see that. this is what i saw.

  13. hi guys,

i just loved cars when i was a kid, and bought all sorts of models of cars besides AMCs.

one of my favorites were chevy impalas. a friend had a 1959 one, a two door hardtop of course, 348 three deuces with a three speed manual transmission. i had a 1960 impala, two door hard top, 348 four barrel, three speed manual transmission.

but i always liked the 59 version better.

here is a pick of an awesome 1959 impala.

I should've stated things more clearly although the post was directed to @Video 61 who I knew would understand the exact story I was referring to.

One thing I promised myself I'd never do -and never allow to become mainstream in the Atari I/O Forums - is talking over people's heads. I created this place to be warm and inviting to all people - particularly newcomers to Atari who want to learn more.

I don't intend this as a put-down to other sites (it's not) but a number of years ago I was pretty put off by the inward focus of people I otherwise like, who have a tendency to name-drop and go on endlessly about finer details of what engineers worked on what games, and the technical aspects involved, while entirely gliding over the game itself. It becomes a list of names and microprocessors. For example, web pages about Centipede that read like internal emails -  battles between Coin-Op and Atari Home Consumer Division regarding Dona Bailey and Ed Logg's development of the game, use of POKEY and Bill Kunkel and Arnie Katz's complaints about performance on the Apple IIe - names and technical aspects that go over many people's heads without any discussion of Centipede itself, leaving the uninitiated feeling clueless and out of the loop not knowing who these people are or why they should know them. There are a lot of people who just want to talk about zapping spiders and mushrooms and how fun it was to play Centipede on a Saturday morning - and I want those people to feel welcome here, and not that they are stepping into the middle of a private discussion in a closed community.

    hi justin,

sorry, should have fleshed it out. just get to busy sometimes.
