  1. Got another one at Disc Traders today! Intellivoice module, B-17 Bomber and Bomb Squad (loose, no overlays) for 5 dollars! Also found Frogger for 4 dollars!
  2. My daughter played Skateboardin today after watching your review. She really enjoyed the game! She got a ranking of "Nerd," but she's going to keep playing and learn the course.
  3. The music and sounds are actually high points for me. That's something I can get nostalgic for and is uniquely Atari. It just doesn't carry the game for me though.
  4. I didn't want to say it. I saw this post this morning, and I actually got a little bit of a smile on my face, thought back to those hours playing it as a kid, thought of the sounds, and was like you know, I might have fun playing this with my daughter. It'll be like old times. It'll be great! Then I fired it up, things went steadily downhill, and my daughter wanted nothing to do with it (let me play it on my NES Mini instead Dad). Cheap death after cheap death I realized that nostalgia was wrong, and nostalgia, powerful as it is, was not going to win the fight between head and heart this time...
  5. Pic below was my third try. Guys, we can talk all day long about nostalgia, sounds, being happy with it when we were kids and didn't know/have the other versions, etc, but this game is still a turd. I played on my 7800 with a TAC-2 joystick, a joystick BUILT for twitch games like Pac Man, and I STILL couldn't get Pac Man to round corners, duck pursuing ghosts, or even turn where I wanted half of the time. And lets not forget the abysmal hit detection... a ghost gets within a few pixels of you (not touching, just close) and you're toast, making it that much harder to stay away from them on the higher levels. And my biggest beef with this version is the power pellets. There are times you should have ate it before hitting the ghost, but nope, doesn't count, ghost hits you first for some reason. The boxed sides that are basically death traps... I could go on and on, but those are the highlights. I might try this a few more times to see if I can improve my score, but this has to be my least favorite version of Pac Man, and its not very enjoyable now sadly. It actually gave me a firm reminder on why I never played this version after I got a copy of Ms Pac Man for my 2600.
  6. This was a fun high score challenge! Congrats again to NSG, and job well done to all participants!
  7. Ok here's some pics of my EPCOT pins (and other Disney pins), plus my EPCOT CENTER mug, book, and VHS. I need to redo my lanyards; my goal is to fit Captain EO and the logos on the EPCOT lanyard. I'm going to take Sorcerer Mickey and Jedi Mickey off and I hope that will give me enough room. One other tip if you're doing pin trading: invest in the locking backs for the pins. We've lost several pins using the rubber backs because they like to come loose, especially if you're riding some of the faster rides. If they're just pins for trading the rubber back is fine, but if they are "keepers" the locking backs are great. I'm also not sure why my Communicore pin has a purple smudge on it, but it was the only one I found during my trip so I went with it :-) I might scour eBay to get a more pristine one, or who knows, I might find one on this trip? I also get a kick out of seeing the price tag on the bottom of the mug: 3.50!
  8. I like Ellen, and I'm a huge Bill Nye and Jeopardy fan, so the ride just does it for me. Plus 37 minutes in AC in hot Florida! I think this was one where they could refurb it with Bill Nye, NDT and Cosmos type stuff. I would also love NDT to do a new voice track for Spaceship Earth.
  9. I remember it having a learning curve when I first played it, but with some practice and the manual I was able to get the hang of it. I just remember being in awe of the graphics; it was the best 2600 graphics I had ever seen.
  10. Really sad Ellen's Energy Adventure will be closed by the time we go... our trip is in mid September, and the ride is closing middle of this month. I'm trying to embrace their new imagining of EPCOT, but at the same time I feel like they could have leveraged Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson for more edutainment type stuff that the park was founded on. When it comes down to it though, people at Disney want the Disney property characters (Disney, Star Wars, Marvel). Still should be fun, but definitely won't be the same.
  11. I hadn't read your writeup on Atari HQ before, that was a great read! Kudos for creating the website while at EPCOT too; I could see how working on something like this there would give some great inspiration.
  12. So not the high score but a new personal best, 483,450. This was with no super bonus on 3 bonus rounds. If I had gotten those I still don't think I would have hit 600000, but definitely would have been closer. Man that's some wicked glare on my CRT though...
  13. Man I knew it right away too, Rick beat me to it. A favorite of mine when I was a kid, and one of the few Atari games I bought brand new!
  14. I'll post pics later, but I managed to snag a text label copy of Indy 500 and two driving controllers from Disc Traders last night for 7 bucks! I've been looking for a set for 10 bucks or under, but the going rate on eBay seems to be 20 dollars or so. I had this game as a kid and I loved it! Very happy to have it back in my collection. Also got a copy of Venture for Intellivision for 2 bucks! Edit: Pics as promised!
  15. So I haven't really discussed it here before, but I'm a huge DisNerd... My first trip to Walt Disney World was in 2011, and I've been hooked ever since! We have went every year except 2015 (took a trip to DC that year instead), and my family and I can't seem to get enough EPCOT is my favorite park, and I was lucky enough to get some of the 30th anniversary merchandise on one of our trips. My wife has bought me other collectibles from earlier in the park's history from eBay. I really wish EPCOT would go back to its roots in the 80's and 90's, but given recent announcements it doesn't appear that's going to happen. While I wasn't there for it, I've seen plenty of video and pictures, and I wish I could have visited during that time period. (Especially when Sega had a huge section of Innoventions!) I also do pin trading when at WDW, and last year they had some of the logos from the original EPCOT Center as pins. I managed to trade for all 5 pins in the set, and had a ton of fun hunting for the last pin that I needed at the Magic Kingdom at the end of our trip. I had cast members checking with everyone trying to find someone with the pin I needed! Luckily I found one on a cast member lanyard back at the entrance on our way out that night. Mission accomplished! (you can see the pins in the photo below) Needless to say, I was pretty excited when I saw some of the 35th anniversary merchandise, so I thought I would share the news here in case others were interested: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2017/07/begin-to-dream-with-retro-inspired-merchandise-for-35th-anniversary-of-epcot-this-fall/ All I can say is I'm glad I bought an annual pass this year; I can really use the merch discount with this announcement!
  16. Well hats off to NSG, I can't seem to get that score in three attempts tonight, so you win the monthly contest (barring someone else coming in 11th hour). I will be coming for your score on the high score forum though, trust me... I beat it once and I can beat it again!
  17. Its on my homebrew wish list; my wife likes to get me these for my birthday and for Christmas, so I usually don't go out and buy them myself.
  18. So we are in the process of selling our house, and we're facing the big move soon... My collection is *significantly* larger than when we moved into our current place 11 years ago. What are some tips and tricks for moving your collection? One thought I had was that, even if we get movers to help, that I would personally box up and transport my collection to the new place. I've heard way too many horror stories from people who lost items during moving, and I don't want to end up in one myself. Any other tips or tricks?
  19. Star Trek TMP and Star Trek V are the only original Trek movies I don't have on DVD or Blu Ray. Have all six on VHS though!
  20. I'm just gonna go on a limb and say Popeye
  21. Pretty stoked for this! I just finished watching season 1 last week and really enjoyed it.
  22. So this dropped at SDCC last weekend: https://youtu.be/znavw4akfoY Even with Ernie Cline giving us warning that the movie wouldn't follow the book, I still get a sour taste in my mouth watching this trailer. I knew they would stray from the book, but I didn't think they'd go this far. Even reading this article didn't help me much: http://screenrant.com/ready-player-one-movie-spielberg-book-differences/ I get some of the challenges the book poses with all of the pop culture references; they couldn't get rights to everything, and I could see why Spielberg would be uncomfortable singing his own praises, but why does this have to be its own "original" story? The characters also look way too pretty, which we know is a must for Hollywood, but it kills a major life lesson/plot point from the book. Don't get me wrong, I'll go see this in the theater when it comes out for sure, but its like we're getting a Diet Coke version of the book on the big screen, when we deserve and KNOW that Spielberg could give us something much closer to the real thing. I'm curious what everyone else's thoughts are on this... are you excited for this movie, or slightly disappointed by the trailer?
