Just watched the first episode last night and loved it! Looking forward to watching the rest now...

By the way, for any fans of Mass Effect on the forums here... didn't the robot seem an awful lot like a Geth? My wife and I both agreed that it was *cough* inspired *cough* by Mass Effect.

My wife has a copy... I think the hardest thing for me would be scheduling time to play it regularly. Its kind of why I gave up online gaming a while ago; its just too hard for me to schedule.

That Bowser is a great Happy Meal Toy! Looks great and can fire fireballs pretty fast.

I recently replayed One on One on the 7800. It may get overlooked sometimes, but it's a fun game. BTW, who took it? I don't recall seeing someone posting that they did.

I looked REAL hard at that copy of Dragons Lair.... but I don't have a Sega CD and I'm not sure if or when I'll get one in the near future. I'm a little more hesitant to purchase old CD systems because the drives are so prone to failure. Seems safer to emulate for the time being.

I'll make sure to dig up an Osmonds 8 track next time, maybe some Carpenters too *shudder*

Just saw it yesterday - its was awesome! It is very action packed. I did expect to see more Adventure in it than what was shown.

Heck yeah, this movie is epic. It’s weird how eerily close we are to being there tech-wise. We kind of are there technically, but not practically. Most of the tech in the movie exists now, just not consumer ready, which it could be in the 2020s and beyond.

I just got back from watching this and I really enjoyed.  I have not read the book (I bought it on Google Play to read) so I can't compare right now but, if the book is better, I know I'm in for a treat.  It was great seeing the 2600 in there and even a ColecoVision!

I’m laughing at my initial apprehension now because I LOVED this movie! I’ve seen it twice and will probably see it a third time as well. It felt like classic Spielberg, and was really a treat to watch. Yes a lot of the book is missing, but a lot of the book wouldn’t have worked for a movie or drawn the mainstream crowd in, which is what you need for a movie to succeed.

It’s also jacked up the market for Adventure carts so that’s something...

Has anyone else seen this? I love the book but I appreciate the film adaptation. They made a lot of changes, condensed the story and toned down some of what I'll call the "deep nerd" elements that make the book so special to many of us. That said, the broad themes of the book are intact and there is a goodly amount of retro fun. I think that this just the cost of making a big budget, mass-appeal movie. If it was all D&D, Joust and Zork, it just wouldn't be as fun to watch. As it is, they've done a great job in turning a great book into a very fun, popcorn popping movie. Also, our favorite woodgrain has a starring role.

Sadly I do not have a Switch or WiiU BUT hopefully soon will have a new desktop and upgrades so I am seriously considering emulating it (I know, I know but it is my only option) It would have to then be the WiiU version but emulation of that version on PC has come along amazingly.

I look at it this way: there’s no guarantees on items being in the box that I want, and no guarantees on the stuff I have being wanted by others. I have what I have, and I try to participate.

If you have to go out and shop specifically for individuals on the list, you’re kind of taking the “junk” out of junk box, and turning it into more of a secret Santa thing. Like others have said, this isn’t for profit or getting your 20 bucks worth, this is for fun. Generally there’s something in there everyone will want, and if not there’s always next time. Kudos to Willie for paying it forward.

Indeed it is!  I remember looking at the prototype for this at the Video Game Museum at the last CGE and wondering when would someone make these available.

Those are hard to find.  I have one, thankfully.  Perhaps you can contact the seller and ask.  After all, if they can 3D print these, they should be able to 3D print the 5200 version as well.

Oh please don't get me wrong! I would hate for that to happen too! I was bummed that Willie didn't find anything, and even reached out to him to see if there was anything I had he could use to help make up for it! Thankfully, most people have really enjoyed the box! We've done 11(!) boxes, with many repeat participants.   And when we do them, the thread tend to be one of the most active and they help energize the forums too!

However, what I am saying, is maybe we need to make sure everyone has a realistic expectation of the box. One of the funnest aspects is the mystery of what's inside! However, being a mystery means it may or may not have something super exciting for you. There always that chance, especially if you have a large collection. For instance, I know for me, that if a 2600,7800 or Intellivision game is in the box, I most likely already have it. And that goes for several other systems as well. But I still do it for fun!

The point of the box was to put in games & such that are either extras from your collection, or simply games you are done with. For the most part, this has worked really well. However, with these boxes, there can be people who look at this mostly financially, taking out the pricier more unique items, and replacing it with cheap and common items. Unfortunately this has happened in the past, but thankfully it is not the norm, as most people "get it".

Also, the box probably isn't for someone who has a massive collection that lacks mostly obscure and/or rare stuff.  Odds are most user aren't getting rid of their crown jewels.

But if you don't mind covering the postage for a chance to look through a box full of swap-able retro goodies, then the box may be for you! It's not perfect, and there have been times I didn't see much that excited me, but I always look forward to it and never regret participating.

I think the main issue we have right now is that a lot of us participating on the box already have HUGE collections.  It's hard to find stuff not only to take, but to put back in (for example, I have a hard time thinking of stuff to put in that Willie or NSG, etc, might not already have).  We need to get some new collectors involved and sandwich them on the list between us old-timers.

And I completely agree with The Atari Creep -- it isn't about the money for me either...more about fun and trying to share good stuff with others.

Episode 22, covering the cartridge version of Hover Strike, has arrived on an unnamed planet near you. Watch out for space pirates.  The direct link is at the top of the show notes, and you can also find this episode on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, and your favorite RSS-based podcast application.  Buoyed by a bunch of great feedback, I think this may be one of my favorite episodes to date.
