  3. A similar topic posted on AA I thought was worth sharing. Well, some I have never had or likely WILL have so going by what I have in order of preference - 4 Switch Woody / VADER MODEL (Love Woodgrain but there is something about that black model) / Sears Video Arcade II. For models I do not have well of course Original Heavy Sixer followed by the Sears Heavy than 4 Switch. It is funny because I distinctly recall back in the day if you had a SEARS version as opposed to a Atari Labelled model you were an outcast of sorts Today I LOVE the SEARS variants of Atari and Intellivision consoles! BONUS - IF I DON'T GET BACK ON TIME TO SAY IT HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!
  4. I get what you are saying and agree of course better to go the free route and "obtain" what is required THAT SAID THOUGH the Amiga Forever package is a great way to introduce oneself especially for those unsure or unfamiliar with emulation all legal as well (for those that care of such things). To be fair in this case Cloanto have been supporting and improving Amiga Forever since 1997 as well so that is a pretty fair track record. The package is pretty tight, well supported and Cloanto have even helped me out personally as well it has a great GUI / INTERFACE and because of all this even someone like me who has a lot of experience with emulation I chose to support Cloanto. For every other platform I go the freeware route, it's just that good.
  5. The are expensive because people tend to hold on to them as they are getting rarer and harder to find as well they did not have the market penetration in USA / CANADA or outside the UK where they are much more common. If you simply would like to try some of the more popular AMIGA games you might consider an emulation package like Cloanto's AMIGA FOREVER, now before anyone starts with "BAH WHY PAY FOR EMULATION???" it is true one can get UAE emulator for free as well as "obtain" the kickstart ROM files (think of it as the required BIOS for AMIGA) and of course download various romsets of games etc, figure the configuration blah blah blah BUT THEN AGAIN if one knows nothing or very little of these things then one can do worse than buying an officially licensed ready to go plug n play package to experience various versions of the operating systems as well as different applications and of course a good sampling of games and demos. If that is of interest check out HERE : https://www.amigaforever.com/ IF YOU ARE DEAD SET ON REAL HARDWARE well I would suggest the most common Amiga 500. This is the most basic model and compatible with many games THAT SAID it is not the most expandable thus you would be relying on original (or copied) games on Floppy Disk media which may not be the most reliable even if you DO track some down. An AMIGA 1200 was the next most popular machine and probably the most expandable with modern storage options, floppy disc emulators and other add-ons which would make the storage, handling and loading of games much more reliable and convenient. Now I do not actually have real AMIGA hardware of any type having to resort to emulation myself for several years now but this is what I know from following the scene. Anyone else of course is welcome to add any suggestions or knowledge from their own personal experience.
  6. Thanks for sharing and WOW I am impressed with your results. Great patience and care rewarded!
  7. Merry Christmas ! Don't really "do" Christmas so much these days but here I am at 13 years old receiving Coleco Galaxian and Pac Man! If you have any Classic Christmas photos (if they include classic computing or gaming all the better !) FEEL FREE TO SHARE AS WELL! Rob aka MaximumRD
  8. What a great story, thanks for sharing, I love hearing stuff like this! When kids have an open mind and not prejudiced or influenced by others on what is cool or fun and they try these things I am not surprised they enjoy it. It is almost like it is coming around full circle back to the basics and playing for the fun of it.

  13. Nice story thanks for sharing. In my case you are preaching to the choir I love Atari but I was a Commodore kid growing up and for me AMIGA was my platform of choice and so that is where my nostalgia and best early computing memories are. Whether playing games or dabbling in Deluxe Paint. The thing is dauber whatever system, console, platform brings you joy or nostalgia we love to hear about it. Despite the Atari name of the site we are all about retro times and experience and that means different things to different people and we are here to celebrate it all! Nobody here is going to laugh at you for being Die Hard Amiga fan that I can promise you In fact I had created THIS thread to kick off the Amiga section for stories just like yours! Keep it in mind if you continue to share your great Amiga stories and experiences (the thread could use the boost) http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/1451-amiga-memories/
  14. Sweet stuff Atari Creep! Well, I would not of thought of it but since you brought it up I guess I DO have some Atari related artwork and it was even done back in the day when Atari 2600 was still selling. Basically, me and a friend use to make our comics and though they were not very good we tried to make them as much like the real thing as possible and with that in mind here is an "advertisement" I created - SCHOOL ESCAPE for the Atari 2600 School Escape, in it you try to get my friend GORD to school without him running into any diversions, he liked to skip school LOL! Pretty much you controlled me Gord in the game trying to make it from his house to the school while avoiding various temptations and obstacles along the way. I do not recall all the details but you would have to run from bullies and also avoid being "sucked in" by temptations like the Comic Shop, Ice Cream store or the transit streetcar that whisked you away downtown lol. Those things would draw you in like a tractor beam and yeah truth be told such things were often excuses to skip school in "real life", we were a bad influence on each other As a bonus years later after I scanned and uploaded the original to Facebook I used Atari online label maker to turn it into a "proper" 2600 label. http://www.labelmaker2600.com/

  16. Tiny "Game Room" in Grand Hotel - Sunpeaks Resort. Better Late Than Never ! Last August 12 - 14- We went to Sunpeaks resort for the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Retro Concert Weekend. Upon checking in to the Grand Hotel did my usual walking around and discovered this quiet and empty little arcade so I just had to do this quick video. I had forgotten all about it as I tend to do once we return from a trip and the excitement wears off. But I was just going through my playlist of various arcades I had filmed when it popped into my head "Hey wait a second, did I ever upload the little Game Room I discovered that weekend at Sunpeaks?" WELL NO I NEVER DID so here it is. Find out more by visiting his channel or blog (links below) and thanks for another great title we can enjoy on our beloved Colecovision's! 21. Thanks much appreciated. One thing I love about this forum is the special vibe and feeling of "community" no other site gives me. With that I would like to show THESE videos I just came across and want to share, now I did NOT create this particular video but it is by a user Daniel Bienvenu aka Newcoleco a amazing ColecoVision Homebrew programmer. We do not communicate much these days but back when I started on Youtube and he was more active on youtube and forums in general he often shouted me out, I reviewed one of his games and we would shout each other out back and forth. He certainly made some surprise videos that always amazed me he took the time to do just as a favour to me. Flashback 2009, my favourite times on Youtube and back when it felt more like a "community" making friends etc. I was even part of Newcoleco's "Memorable Youtube Moments of 2009", this was early on before I had many subscribers yet people who appreciated my humble videos reached out. !!!!! NOTE THE VIDEO DOES NOT ALLOW EMBEDDING SO ONCE YOU CLICK IT YOU WILL SEE THE OPTION TO WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyIlbAJQLD0 In THIS one he created an ANIMATION from my Tag Response Blooper Video (The phone rang to deliver a package as I was filming) to me this was one of the nicest and collect things a fellow youtuber ever created for me. He spent 10 hours on it! Notice the Colecovision to the right and the "phone" I pick up is the controller. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWM2fUFSDkA
