Contrary to popular opinion I AM NOT DEAD lol. Here is proof that I am still alive as I take you for a little stroll to the ELECTRONICS RECYCLING BIN to see if there are any goodies. Much to my surprise I drop the camera while filming DOH! Share in the adventure! OK not much of an adventure but still a bit of fun and hey you can check out the beautiful October scenery on our property.
 

There are some really great people on other sites. Many of our most dedicated members originally came from AtariAge and other sites, including MaximumRD, BTBfilms, and most everybody reading this. We want to welcome in as many great new people as possible, to join us and grow our membership. But they have to get what we're doing and at least attempt to understand what this community stands for. If we allow the same nonsense to happen here that happens on other sites, what good are we?
 
I made a commitment to all of you to Keep Atari I/O Beautiful. Hoaxes and drama being dragged in here from other sites won't fly. I said this wouldn't be tolerated here and I meant it.

Interesting. Well this is exactly why I made my post about moving on and it is what it is etc, because it always seems somehow info gets back to AA. BUT I will say I guess it is something he botherered to register, post, apologize and say there would be no more such marketing attempts, he seemed to actually be concerned about how outsiders perceived such behaviour. 
 
Probably still best you banished him and shut him down I guess, sends a clear message that we are just not into such nonsense and have no interests in tolerating such behaviour. If it is an "in joke" between certain AA Intellivision collectors than perhaps that is where it should stay.

Pollution from other sites will not be allowed

With the Art of Atari book release now right around the corner (tomorrow!) I'm pleased to present an interview that I did with the book's author, Tim Lapetino, on behalf of the site.  Huge thanks to Tim for his participation and his willingness to give thorough and informative answers.  We hope to have Tim join us for a Wednesday night chat in the near future -- stay tuned for details on that.
 
I'm now watching my post office box like a hawk for my copy of the book!  I intend to post a review once I've had the chance to read it cover to cover -- I don't imagine it will take me long, as this has been circled on my calendar for months.

This is a fantastic interview. I honestly enjoyed reading this and thought that you asked the questions we'd really want to ask. This book is really a compilation of video game archeology with so many stories and lore behind each piece of artwork, and so many questions about what has been left undiscovered. You did such a nice job with this. I think your article looks great on the site.

Agreed! Nintendo is the Disney of video games. I wish I was as excited about the console itself as I am about new Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong games   
 
 
 
Great point and I agree with you totally. "Wow factor" can be more than graphics. I'd love to have something new in gaming to be excited about again! There used to be so many alternative choices in the 80s and 90s. When Nintendo and Sega were fighting the 16-Bit wars, there were tons of other things to get excited about, like Atari Lynx, TurboGrafx-16 / Duo, Neo-Geo, import games, Amiga CD32, Jaguar, 3DO, FM Towns Marty, and I suppose even CD-i. Today Nintendo is the little guy and with the rare exception choices are limited.
 
 
 
I completely agree! It's concerning to me that they're releasing a generic looking console when Nintendo stuff can be so unique and fun. What makes Switch more special than an iPad with a cool controller, other than the fact that Nintendo properties like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokémon, Star Fox, etc. will be exclusive to the console? Glorified Android device is right!

I thought the same thing. That's really well put, "Switch" is such a literal name. There was a rumor the other day that the NX would be introduced as "Nintendo Duo" which I dismissed as a hoax (I doubt Nintendo would want any hint of confusion with a previous system) but in hindsight I like that name a lot more than "Switch". Might as well call it the "Nintendo Mix-'n-Match"   
 
 
 
It's a great question, I was wondering the same thing. I meant to include this in my line about "Is Switch a tablet or no?" I'm assuming it's a touch screen, but they didn't show it as using a touch screen in the video. With the success of Nintendo 3DS and Wii U games like Super Mario Maker I can see that being a feature they'd include. What do they have to lose at this point?

I would have been impressed if they had made a new home gaming console with no gimmicky crap, instead have current gen hardware and a new relationship with game publishers so that in addition to your big 3 or 4 standard (Mario, Zelda, Kart, Party) games you can also give people a console that plays the games other gamers are playing.
 
Let your 3DS be your portable, and make a new HOME console.   Then you'll impress me at least as much as PS or XBox have.

It's 77°F 25°C here and I'm on the beach. Watching this video makes me want to go to British Columbia! I could use a brisk fall day and some beautiful brown leafs.

First of all, my theory why some of us (myself included) feel that new systems no longer induce the "wow" factor feeling. 
Graphical leaps are getting smaller and smaller.
Going from 2600 to NES...Wow!
 
 
From NES to Genesis...WOW!

 
Grainy FMV on Sega CD...Wow!
Genesis to PS1...Wow!

 
PS1 to PS2...Wow!

 
PS2 to PS3...meh.

 
Here's another one. Mario kept looking better and better, but once the gamecube version hit, he didn't really improve all that much.

 
We're visual people, but the room for improvement is getting smaller and smaller. It's actually smart that Nintendo is focusing on innovation. (Wii, DS, 3DS, Wii-U)
Yes, they have had some duds (Virtual Boy and Wii-U as far as sales go).
 
Switch doesn't floor me, but it does intrigue me. I like the option to play on either a TV or laying on the couch while someone else is watching TV.  The 3DS is my current favorite system and Nintendo is my favorite game maker. Even if it was just another plain system, I'd probably be interested just for the next games in series such as Zelda and Mario Kart.
 
Two last thoughts:
1) Portable no longer means having to fit in your pockets, thanks to massive smart phones and iPads.
2) I hate to say it, but we (who grew up in the 80's and 90's) are no longer the target audience.  Now it's all about Millennials, who, on the whole, have different tastes than us. I believe that is who the trailer was targeting. However, future ads may target more kids and families.

Having recently discovered a local Blue Electronics / Small Appliances Recycle bin I am hoping for this to become a long and happy series of cool and interesting finds ! Any usable (or possibly usable) computers, gadgets, electronics, accessories I find I will be displaying in this series.
