  1. In the sense that they just slapped the Atari logo on it and call it their own. There's nothing in-house or Atari about this other than the logo and someone else seeing dollar signs. That is and always will be the problem with these sort of things, the motivation comes from the wrong angle altogether. Just a few years ago Atari vowed to never enter the hardware market, yet... here we are. Welcome to the forums btw! =D
  2. Small progression on animation ideas as you can see in the video here (sorry for the crap video but you get the general idea of eye movement and hair blowing in the wind, even if you can't see it): So far I've got an entire scene/character rendered for 5 angles with primary focus camera to be animated and having 8-10 different expressions available plus randomized voice over lines from about 50 available per character using different actors for each one so they're truly unique. Here's a few sample audio clips of the voice actors to be used with the characters: https://soundcloud.com/onemanonemaschine/voicedemo I'm sitting at around 24-characters right now and think that's going to be about it. Now just waiting on some special storage hardware before real progress can take place =D hopefully I'll have something playable early next year.
  3. We're only 5 days in and about half way there interest-wise. So please, if you haven't already done so, send an e-mail declaring your interest and share the news to other forums, groups, etc. We still have about 50 days before the final tally comes up to see where we stand. Hopefully the interest turns out to be there and this will materialize. Thanks!
  4. I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on the other forums asking the same thing: "I've been working with William of Mortoff Games for the past few months in making sure this is possible (plastic injected mold design and quotes, circuit design, assembly, testing on real hardware, etc. - the works) and could be a pathway to other things down the line should the interest actually be there. The controller will be 100% identical to the originals with the exception of the Atari logo on them for obvious reasons. From a quality stand point, you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two but am open to fielding concerns and quality questions so we make sure it gets pushed back and addressed. Tactile feedback was mentioned and I want to make sure it's going to have the same feel. If the demand is actually there (I'm giving it until December 31st, that's almost a good 2-months) then we'll proceed with getting prototypes sent back to ensure the quality on the circuitry is as expected and update everyone accordingly along the way. If not, then I guess the $150+ on eBay option will remain."
  5. In case you guys haven't already seen it elsewhere, we're close to having some PCBs made. Hopefully by the end of the month we will have a few in hand and start building one to see how possible recreating it will be overall.
  6. Amazing price! I'm guessing he makes about $5-$6 each cart but it certainly makes wanting to get homebrews of this nature for more attractive and is more than fair.
  7. Am I the only one sick and tired of the Flashback consoles? Now we're on 8 GOLD with HD out and it's just more Atari 2600? Ridiculous.

You're not the only one. I wish they'd up their game and commit to one unit. Include SD and Cartridge input. Make a good product at the level of NES Mini. One thing I give them credit for is availability, you can find Flashbacks everywhere. Not so with NES & SNES Mini.

  8. If anyone is interested in assisting with character scripts, please let me know. I've got a freelancer doing some voices for this and plan on having a variety of options for a feature rich 1-scene demo that I can expand upon from there. Looks like a teacher / Do The Math scene could happen as well, out of the 16 or so scenes / characters planned to choose from:
  9. Just picked up a Lynx again for the first time in a long time so I can do the McWill mod and having a run down through these great videos. Thanks for making them! Really enjoyed the Xenophobe and Checkered Flag episode. Learned quite a bit from them and even about the Ms. Pac-Man. Looking forward to some more when you make them, especially now!
  10. With the announcement of the SD card reader hardware capable of accessing storage of up to 32GB of data, my interest in doing this has somewhat been revived: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=YIW5i6vq5IQ And so, I've continued rendering characters and scenes. This will allow for far more possibilities in regards to the number of scenes and characters and voices I could have. The best part? No expensive Jaguar CD required while far exceeding the benefits!
  11. Amazed at some of the 2600 boxed collections I'm seeing in those photos!
  12. That's great =) Thanks for sharing the pics!
  13. Yes, I found out about that neat little hack only moments after buying all 4 of them already lol but that's ok, I enjoy them and they look nice... and dare I say play nice as well. First time in my entire life that I can lie in bed and play an arcade machine, too! ;-)
  14. So, I caught wind of this from someone on Facebook... then set out to get every one of them. Their post cost me $80 (as they are $19.99 each at Cracker Barrel) and while some claim they are unplayable (and they are a challenge to play at such a small level) I still find them incredibly enjoyable and just fun overall to have. Top part lights up, authentic sounds and gameplay... really great stuff for 20 bucks! Any one else grab one yet?
  15. Good to know that this is a possibility =D
  16. I just want to know why AtariIO isn't like a quarterly magazine already...

It needs one. Could put some of the scores from score challenges in there.

  17. Yeah, the Orbit controller chip is a proprietary chip but... I got a hold of someone who may have that as well. There's a lot of stuff to do and go through.
  18. On the case design: Ira Valinksy was the designer of the JagDuo and most of the later Atari products. Sadly he passed away at an early age quite a long time ago. Some sort of page in dedication and memory is definitely in order. You're correct about the expansion port - it is similar to that of the Jaguar 2 design as well. No idea what they could have had in mind for use regarding the expansion port really. While it's doubtful anything will come of the efforts, I am in contact with the original board manufacturer who produced this board to see if any possible archives of the original PCB files exist. There are other options as well but obviously having the original files would be the easiest. The biggest chip challenge would be the Orbit CD controller chip that is found in the Jaguar CD units. Very little information on those seem to be available. While also unlikely, it could also be possible to have new Tom and Jerry chips made thanks to wafer pooling in the modern age bringing costs substantially down and the available netlists. In a best price scenario, they would still probably be roughly $60 a chip due to such a low or limited qty run.
  19. Fascinating to read. Makes you think about digital games of current day and how that once they're pulled from the store, especially sold in limited or low qtys, it would be much harder to find or obtain. Here we have people tracking down games from certain developers/publishers from 20-30 years ago, I can't see efforts being the same 20-years from now.
  20. Yeah, the JagDuo and JagVR combination was a true dream for me in the 90s. I was ready to play Black ICE/White Noise, Zone Hunter VR and Missile Command VR non-stop.
  21. Thanks go to John Hardie for scanning this in. Confirmation that work was done on this and not just a case mockup!
  22. I would if I had a scanner but once I get one will do!
  23. For those who weren't able to download the .abs file to load to a skunk and make it easier to see the display output via emulator, here's a quick PG video of it displaying the images and how it would look. I also found 2 voice actors that are willing to do voices but I'm still unsure how far I'll take this. Also had custom carts made specifically with this game in mind but will most likely be used for Cosmic Ark.
