I have the 2600 Unocart but wasn't aware of one for the A8. I'm going to look into it. It's fun to see all the options available nowadays.

True. I think the Unocart can download updates through Wi-Fi as well. I had heard about that, now that you mention it. It's a cool setup, from what I understood about it.

Would the community buy a Jaguar+ if it had these features, and are there any other features the community would like to see for a theoretical Jaguar+ system?

Definitely, MPEG2 support. That way, you could play movies on the thing. They had the MPEG2 decoder cartridge for the original Jaguar, but it was never released to the public. It would have played Video CDs. But, if Atari are clever, they would make a DVD option for the Jaguar+ for movies. But, that may be overkill nowadays since FMV went the way of the dinosaur. I don't know. I think it would be kind of neat.

Definitely make it a RISC system. The Jag was RISC, so why not the Jag+? It would be more on-par with the original then, in my opinion. Also, improved 3D engine. These are just suggestions, though. That's how I would do it.

One more thing. If they could, Atari could try to recreate the original hardware in FPGAs or CPLDs. Maybe, try an ARM-based architecture. Make it stand out. Make it powerful.

I would love to see a 4/5 Scale Atari Lynx II with a nice library of Lynx -and Jaguar- games playable on it

You know, Justin, someone did make an Atari Lynx mini version. You could probably find it in a YouTube search. I think the guy was French, IIRC. Amazing stuff, and he used the original hardware to miniaturize it. It's pretty cool.

  4. Yay, if they can make a Lynx+ with true RISC technology. I say reverse-engineer the Lynx and try to make it better so that it utilizes the original technology but modernized.

I am a fan of RISC technology, so maybe I am a little biased about it. But, I think if it is RISC, it would be faster and more efficient. Cart and SD support would be great.

  5. It looks like the Genesis Everdrive has support for the SMS ROMs right away. I thought you had to do something to it in the firmware to make it run like a Sega Power Base Converter. That's what I meant, if there was some special trick to get the SMS ROMs to play on the Genesis with it. Maybe you don't. I never worked with Everdrives, but I am sure someone here has and will show people how to do it. I remember reading about that as well. It's very intriguing that you can play SMS games on a 16-bit system like that.

  6. I like any of the Woodies. I don't have one now, but I have an operational Atari 2600 Jr. Short Rainbow model. I used to have a Vader and a 4-Switch Woodie, but they were stolen. I have never had a H6R of any model A2600, though. I would love to get one, though. When I had a ColecoVision, I had the A2600 adapter for it, but I traded it in for store credit at a video game store in my hometown. The only issue with my Short Rainbow is the cracked case, which I could cosmetically repair if I had the materials. I could also do it almost flawlessly with the right materials. Anyway, that's what I prefer aside from the A7800. I also have a Supercharger cart, which only works on the A2600.

    That's my story. Thanks. :)

  7. Atari could have acquired those rights to PPII in 1983. Heck, they could have created the cartridge in 1983 for 1984 release. I don't know. But, you're right, as the A7800 was supposed to be released in 1984 and was pushed back to I believe 1986. I got my first A7800 around Christmas of 1987 or 1988. I think it was a mistake to not release it before the NES was released in 1985. A colossal mistake.
