  1. 46,850 A small improvement, but this run, I was so full of hope of breaking 50k 😆 I mean, I crossed 40k with my first life and was feeling real good about myself and dreaming of crossing 50k, and then promptly lost the next three only after a few thousand more points. As the saying goes, don't count your 🐥 before they are hatched.
  2. 👍 ❤️ The art on those red box 2600 games presented such a huge departure from the artsy illustrative type art of the earlier Atari games.
  3. 80s? We've been mostly sunny as well but in the 70s and a few days in the 60s. Temperatures are stepping down and looking like we're easing into autumn.
  4. 44,850 YASS finally broke the 40k barrier. I have to admit that I didn't care much for Asteroids in the past. I think it was my disappointment as a kid seeing solid colorful asteroids instead of mimicking of arcade vector graphics (homebrew Space Rocks is awesome in this regard) and having to use a joystick which never felt natural with this game. But 40 years later, I'm having a blast playing it. Just as I re-discovered 2600 Pac-Man and absolutely loved it after hating it for nearly 40 years, I'm really glad that I finally discovered the joy of these games. Add, too, Galaxian--another game I hated on but became a fan of recently through playing the 2600 version. About the controller, the Starplex doesn't feel quite right but way better than any other controller I have for playing Asteroids. One of these days, I'll have to commission an all-button 2600/7800 controller than fits me. I traded my all-button Retrogameboyz controller with Rick because I got hand cramps from using it. The button spread on the Starplex is a bit wider than the Retrogameboyz one and my hands are not cramping, but it's still not totally comfortable.
  5. 39,490 -- so close to breaking 40k and that #$@#% saucer shoots me down.
  6. Road trips during the 80s was a lot of reading as Rick mentioned and playing games like I Spy... and just goofing around and talking. I had some battery powered portable games but don't recall taking them. Yes, we live in a golden age where content/games are plentiful and you can play games of all generations with relative ease. But there is such a thing as too much. Just like people browse Netflix looking for something to watch and end up not watching anything, I think the same thing happens with games for some of us (namely me) who have a lot of games available to play. Community high score challenges are really beneficial in that regard where someone has made the choice for you.
  7. I have the portable, and it comes preloaded with 80 games. Most are the original 2600 games.
  8. Drinking buddies! That explains the 🍺 🙂 I was wondering about that. Anyhoo, this is a great piece of art. Thanks, @MaximumRD!
  9. No no, not nice job. I got the low hanging fruit. Tell me who the rest are... please? 😄
  10. retro gamer street cred 😆 33,910 -- finally broke 30k. My current strategy is to clear the asteroids as quickly as I can and avoid having to confront the saucers.
  11. Who are all these characters? Back -- (1) drinking knight (2) Xena Warrior Princess (3) Thor (4) Drogo (5) reddish woman Middle -- (6) He-Man (7) Red Sonja (8) blonde dude with black eyebrows (clearly, the hair is not natural) Front -- (9) doofus looking dude (10) Conan (11) Asterix (12) one eyed man (13) Elric of Melniboné?
  12. I played with the Starplex controller. I wish the controller I traded with you by Retrogameboyz would have worked better for me. I found that I prefer the buttons on that one over the Starplex buttons.
  13. @RickR I love that you collect for Atari 8-bit, C64, VIC-20, TI 99/4A ❤️ Such a fun time in computing during the 80s. I have way too many games. The mouth is bigger than the stomach, so to speak. Nearly all my games I bought because I wanted to play them, but and I'm very sure I'll never get around to playing all the games. Here's what my games for each platform looks like:
  14. I looked into GameEye a few years ago with thoughts of changing from CLZ Games because people raved about it. I believe it was Radical Reggie's channel that I first learned of GameEye. I recently looked into Pricecharting as well. If there are free alternatives that are as good or better, why not change. CLZ Games is a subscription based app. I got it many moons ago when it was a one-time-pay-for-registration app, and I've been grandfathered in. I don't get to have all the latest bells and whistles, but I have what I need. The app is updated regularly (several times a year). CLZ Games has a big discount on Black Friday (can't remember but it's either 50% or 33% off. Regular price is $15 yearly). For me, two features are required, and CLZ Games has both. The first is the cloud sync. I use the app on my phone and tablet, and it syncs to the CLZ cloud. GameEye does not have that although there are workarounds as Crossbow described. The second is the ability to easily add games not found in the app's database. Pricecharting required making submissions to the app owner to add new games (or something like that), and that was no good for me. I quit using a spreadsheet after reaching about 100 games. You guys who continue to use a spreadsheet with large collections are 🦾
  15. Wow @RickR that's quite the haul and the boxes look superb! 👍 👏 ❤️ Here are games I picked up today from yesterday's claim sale in a local gamer's group. Nothing amazing but happy to pick up some Genesis games with product and movie ties. The fun thing about these local gamer sales has been the opportunity to meet in person the people you've interacted with online.
  16. +1 for Rick's first and second bullets -- that's what I do with magazines and anything that can't stand firmly on its own on the shelf.
  17. So, I'm a fanboy -- the color and design of the Atari 800 and 800XL are very attractive and representative of the best in 70s and 80s aesthetics, respectively. They're my favorites. The VIC-20 and PET were also great, and they were the very first computers I interacted with in addition to my friend's dad's $99 Timex Sinclair 1000. Having said that, I've long appreciated the design aesthetics of Apple computers and Apple's attempts to differentiate itself. The original Macintosh was a unique look. Their attempt to make a box more attractive was always appreciated. I nearly pulled the trigger on the Macintosh IIsi back in the early 90s, but as fate would have it, I ended up getting my very first PC instead (Northgate 386/33).
  18. The Game Boy version is actually an improvement 🤣 I took a selfie when I was in the hospital after my heart surgery six months ago.
  19. Rob, you sure you want to be walking around in that smokey air? Take care. It feels like BC has been on fire every year the past few years.
  20. I just watched some gameplay. It looks and sounds very nice. I wish the game used digitized sample of the bat hitting the ball instead of the little electronic blip--feels out of place with the other sound effects. Did the devs run out of space? The game seems to use digitized sounds for everything else.
