  1. I know I saw a recent Transformers series on Netflix that was pretty dark. I haven't been keeping up, so I'm confused on what to watch. I hope there's an article out there that explains 🙂
  2. Living large, living fancy 😄 Finally, after sitting in several boxes in the foyer since last October, I spent the Fourth assembling this motorized standing desk by Uplink. The Steelcase office chair is still in the box (I'll probably get to that this weekend).

The equipment was provided gratis by HBO Benefits since my chiropractor wrote a note explaining my back condition. HR lady gave me carte blanche and told me to order whatever I wanted and insisted that I order a nice standing pad as well. I see it as my "parting gift" from the company.

After getting the pink slip last November though, I had lost all interest in assembling it, but now that I have a new job, I had a reason to get it up and working pronto 😄 It's very nice. I can now open the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch that I got to use as my desk clock.

Life is slowly but surely returning to a sense of normalcy.

Multiple monitors 👍 I'll see how working with just the laptop display works out. I might get a monitor later.

Hybrid model sounds like a good compromise. Before the pandemic, I was probably working from home one day a week consistently since all my guys were in NYC. My current gig is permanent remote.

I went through a lot of iterations to get here.  When the pandemic first started and I didn't know how long it would be, I was just using the laptop screen.  Once I knew it wasn't going to be over quick, I went to one monitor, and I was upstairs on a big desk the kids used to use for homework.  Then when the kids came back home, I had to squeeze onto the desk you see above.  My job involves reviewing a lot of data, so I quickly moved to two monitors.  The laptop is hidden on the right/rear corner of the desk.  Those two screens are probably too small, but they fit on the desk and were very inexpensive.  If I decide to work from home full time, I'll probably get one very large monitor and move back upstairs.

That big printer has been a godsend.  Mostly for my wife, she uses it for work a lot.  Upgrading that printer was a smart move.  And the router as well.  We were having a lot of trouble with 4 people working from home until I upgraded that too.  A bluetooth headset is another "must-have".

When you stop and think....boy we sure went through a LOT over the last 18 months.  From health, to stress, to things like this -- adjusting to working from home.  But we survived.  That's what's important.

Yes, we sure have gone through a lot over the past 18 months. Including all the weird weather we've been seeing, there has been a lot of firsts and new things to go along with pandemic living.

New router and printer sound good. I switched router a couple of years ago when one of my kids complained about lag during his online gaming sessions. A while back, I also got a Brothers laser printer that supports wireless printing. It worked well for a while, but now the wireless printing doesn't work, so we bring the laptop to it and use USB connection.

Personally, I'm glad to see that remote working seems to be here to stay. On a personal level, it means I don't have to get a car when son number 2 starts college next year.

  3. Pluto TV

Ever hear of it? I didn't until I applied for a job. It's an ad-supported free streaming service. I've been watching a lot of shows that I grew up with as a kid (Family Ties, Facts of Life, and more). This week, I started my new job as TPM for international. I'm working with folks to bring Pluto TV to markets outside the US. I'm working for the first time in seven months, so my head is spinning a bit.

Recovering from heart surgery took a few months. I don't think I'm 100% but pretty close and certainly well enough now to work.

We have it for Apple TV. There's a lot of content grouped neatly together. The ads will pop up during odd times while watching a movie so that will take some adjustment. I did read that several 1970-80s sitcoms were added recently.

I haven't watched any movies yet and have stuck to watching to the classic channels. Today, I watched Love Boat for the first time since the 80s.

As part of my onboarding, I watched some presentations and a couple mentioned that the ad load was the number one complaint from users -- 5 minutes of ads for 10 minutes of content. For someone like me who grew up with over the air free broadcast TV, this feels very natural. Broadcast TV shows also had 10 minutes of ads with 20 minutes of content for a 30 minute show.

For the younger folks, like my kids who grew up with no ad interruptions, I can see how it can be noticeably bothersome. I still remember the first time my kids watched broadcast TV. They were very perturbed at the interruption caused by ads--hey, who changed the video!?! 😂

I've used it a bunch. For awhile, I was totally into the Bob Barker Price is Right channel.

  4. "Most of you will not make it to the finish line. Many of you will not even qualify." 😂🤣 this is so funny! Well, I may be crying real tears later, but still, I found it hilarious. 🏁 best of luck, y'all
  5. Gold Leader standing by.

I’ve been waiting practically all my life to say this 🤣 Tonight, I’m chaperoning our high school senior graduation night party (9:15pm to 5:15am) as it is tradition for the junior class parents to chaperone the party. And I’m chaperoning the gold charter bus.

Remember, there must be room for the spirit of the lord between all hips.  That is your mission, Gold Leader.  May the Force be with you.

  6. Yes! You got it, RP. Was there a better tool for learning the names of the planets in our solar system?
  7. I loved Front Line as a kid and popped in a few quarters. The graphical design was cute. Your soldier reminded me of a paper doll (for those old enough to remember those 🙃).
  8. Hey, Harry! Good to see you. It's been quite the roller coaster ride in my life since November last year. Things are stable now, and I'm just now trying re-build normalcy and routine back into my life. I randomly dropped in here on the I/O during the past few months when I felt able, but I'm looking to ease back in on a regular cadence. I look forward to the I/O fun.
  9. ☝️this -- being an only child and all my friends after 7th grade not being into video games and board games, having a computer opponent was the reason I played the video games. Having said that, I mostly dabbled with chess games. I do remember playing the video game version of Yahtzee and that was fun. As for the 2600 versions, I haven't played any. I do find it fascinating that the 2600 can play chess and would like to check that out. I'll have to check some out on the GameBoy as well. I recently re-acquired the OG GameBoy.

  12. What about @RickR's answer? I got my money down on his answer -- Gato.
  13. Ghostbusters? Edit: No, that's not it... but these snippets just play with my 🧠! I mean, they look so familiar lol
  14. Correct! As a I mentioned before, I am a fan of Synapse games. I haven't played Necromancer for more than thirty years, but what I remember most fondly is the game music.

  16. Yes, Shamus and his throwing knifes! I love Synapse games, and Shamus was one of the first two or three Atari games that I bought.
  17. Staying with Atari 8-bit. This is from one of my favorite publishers.
  18. Forbidden Forest? And the bigger question... did Cosmi ever make anything good for the Atari? I always loved the art and images on the packaging. I can't remember which ones, but I bought a couple of Cosmi games back in the day, and they were horrible. I think even back then that their prices were in line with budget titles. I could be wrong about that.
  19. Probably not as cutting edge of a rocker as when he started out, but many of today's Korean rockers stand on YB's shoulders. He has become very successful and enjoys mainstream appeal in Korea. He has released English version of this particular popular song which I believe should be the anthem of any new generation of young people growing up in this world. It looks like it even got included in a Rocksmith release.
