sramirez2008 reacted to dauber in Midwest Gaming Classic 2024
Just thought I'd start a thread. I'm going -- I didn't get to go last year. Have my ticket, staying at the Hilton, just need to make sure I get to my Amtrak train! (I learned in 2022 that the Amtrak station is only a few blocks away, and if I don't want to walk, the Uber ride is cheap enough.) Baird Center (formerly Wisconsin Center) in Downtown Milwaukee. Might take a break and venture out and explore some of the city; downtown Milwaukee is usually dead during the weekends, but I might take a bus or Uber or something to check out a neighborhood or two (at the very least to do some record shopping!).
I keep saying it, but I SWEAR this year I WILL play Werewolf with the Guys, Games & Beer crew. (They are really, really nice people, btw.) Familiar guests to me -- Dr. Philip Ahn and Daniel Pesina from the arcade Mortal Kombat games (both really nice guys, the former who doesn't even like video games!), Paul Niemeyer (Midway artist, also a really nice guy), Tim Kitzrow (NBA Jam play-by-play voice; he is such a hoot!), Eugene Jarvis (famed -- to us, at least! -- Williams programmer who once got thrown out of a Chicago arcade after losing his temper at a Defender cabinet!), Marty Goldberg (he was kind enough to sign my copy of Atari: Business is Fun a few years ago), and Ben Heck, among others. Surprised I didn't see Brian Colin's name on the list; I was pretty sure he said he's going this year, as always.
Pretty sure Svengoolie will be judging the cosplay contest.

Eugene Jarvis! Glad to know that he attends these events. Hopefully, he makes it to PRGE. Robotron and Defender are in my top 5 favorite coin-op games.
Some day, I hope to attend MGC. Until then, the closest I've gotten is buying the Megacat bundle from MGC back in December.

Wish I could go. I won't be able to attend PRGE this year due to the dates. I may only be able to go to FreePlay Florida this year.

Mid era made 7800s don't work with the game unless you disable the extra timing circuit on the 7800 first. But doing that will then break 2600 Dark Chambers and 2600 Kung Fu master from working. So I guess Activision felt it was better to add that sticker on later made copies of the game so they didn't have to field support calls on why the game didn't work in a customer's 7800. Again, it only really effects those 7800s with the extra timing circuit. But consumers had no way of knowing if that was in their 7800 or not, so this was the best way to avoid it.

Nothing rare, but I scored a sealed Robot Tank for $11.99.

Yes! I’ve been after the Stargunner manual for quite some time. I have most of the manuals for my collection of carts. Some of the manuals are just as the cool as the games themselves.

On this episode of #NoFilterHD, I play #Frenzy7800, which is a #port by #BobDecrescenzo for the #Atari7800! This is a port of the 1982 sequel to #Berzerk, which is a classic #Arcade #game! Playing it here on the #AtariVCS on #launcheday (the game was originally released back in 2013). What do you think? I play the game, chat a bit & give my feedback on this double dose of #Berzerk & #Frenzy action!

Anything Bob makes can be recommended without hesitation! This game is awesome and it is so cool that is offers both Frenzy and Berzerk!

Brilliant! I own a copy of this game but will purchase it for my VCS800. This is an excellent two-for-one purchase. Both ports play well.

Yep. Everyone wore out their wheels. Planned obsolescence?

The kind with the hand brake was what we had. My brother and I would ride and slide on the Big Wheel until the rear wheels had holes in them.
