I'm glad they chose to use Missile Command as the most prominent artwork on the cover. I just shot that in high resolution for a new slide on the home page. It's iconic of Atari's artwork from that era

Let's take a look at two more oddball 2600 cartridges!

Breakout made a brief cameo appearance in the post that started this thread off, but there it is in all its shiny golden-orange glory, next to another truly unusual and extra-hard-to-find late Atari Corp re-release.  Buckle up for weirdness and mistakes!

Let's start with Hangman: this is the only cartridge to be released in this silver/picture hybrid style.  Right out of the gate, we have a glaring typo -- All Rights Reseved -- in the copyright text.  Starting with some of their silver label games, Atari started printing VIDEO GAME CARTRIDGE right *on* the cartridge label -- you know, in case there was ever confusion.  It's like getting a tattoo of your own name, no?  Finally, to round things out, here we are in 1986 and... apparently we're calling the console the VCS again!  Well, okay, fine -- the "2600VCS".  Who needs spaces between words, anyway?  Or maybe the keming is just a little bit off.

Now, on to Breakout: again we have a unique Atari Corp. release -- no other title features this distinctive color label.  A PAL version of Defender features a blue label, but that one *may* be the result of a simple printing error -- apart from the funky colors it looks otherwise identical to the standard picture label release.  I've never seen or heard anything definitive about any of these variants, so, who knows?  In any case, the Breakout label was clearly intentionally designed to *some* degree.  If only they bothered to get the content right!  Here we have yet another Atari Corp. cartridge with incorrect controller information printed on it.  I wish I knew how they continually screwed up this most basic piece of information, but there you have it.  There was a corrected release of this variant that had a strip of black tape, as well as a follow-up with no controller information listed at all.  You'll also notice the copyright text is a little misaligned.  Again, not an uncommon problem with Atari Corp era releases:

The font used for the game titles (HammerFat) dates all the way back to the original text label cartridges:

It's also the same font used in the Atari "Fuji" logo.  Personally, I like the all-caps styling a lot, and I especially love the size of the text on the end labels.  There's one additional cartridge that has text of this size/style on the end label, as far as I know -- hope to be able to share that one in a future post!

It's like a sliding scale....sure it's hard to find Atari stuff anymore...but PS2 or Wii right now is all dirt cheap and really fun.  In a few years, it will be some other system.

Double Dragon has a special place in my memory.  When I was in college, the nearby 7-11 had a DD machine, and my friends and I would go buy slurpees and have a blast on this game.  A great way to blow off steam.

    Thanks again.

Developed by Data East published by Bally Midway, this game puts the player in the shoes of Jumpin' John.   Jumpin' John has a special race car that has the ability to jump!  it only works once the car gets over 100mph, but it is needed to jump over rivers and other obtacles.   As you are racing you can bump other cars into each other or into the walls (bumping in the walls destroys the vehicle).  There is a variety of traffic to dodge, from regular cars to trucks (that like to dump their loads in front of you!).   There are four theme race tracks (Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall) that repeat for a total of 32 tracks.  When you finish a level, your car will stop at a gas pump and you will get a tally of how many vehicles you have bumped off the road!.  If you can complete a track without bumping any cars at all you get a 50,000 point bonus!
Show how well was the game ported to some of my favorite pre-crash consoles?
Atari 2600 - A simplified version of the arcade game, it is however still quite fun.  Sound effects are nice and controls are responsive.  It takes some practice to get used to the jump mechanic in this version of the game.
Intellivision - This version has one of the best looking intro screens I have seen!  the gameplay is spot on and the controls are very responsive.  Of the home versions of this game, this one I can play the best.  Great music and sound effects and a really neat car animation while you play (looks like it is dancing).
Colecovision - This version gives you a choice between using a standard controller or the driving controller!.  The driving controller does work,  but I find it is a little hard to jump when using it.   The arcade game is translated quite well to the Colecovision with great graphics and sound.   The box art of this game is one of my favorites for the Colecovision.
So how would I rank these ports?
Intellivision Colecovision Atari 2600 My high score for the Arcade Game 7,580 points.   If you ever see the arcade game or use Mame, give it a try and post your high score below!

A interesting desktop mini arcade machine with 230 built in games by Soundlogic XT.   These games are divided up into 4 main categories - Sports, Shooting, Puzzle and Arcade.   Each category has a nice selection of games for the genre, with a few hidden gems mixed in such as Galaga (although it is not called this and has alternative game graphics, but the game play and some of the sounds are the same)
It has a nice 2.5 lighted color LCD display, although some text is hard to read on it in certain games.  The control panel has a joystick, 2 fire buttons, reset, start and sound.   The control pad in the unit has the typical carbon dot mushroom style actuators, no mechanical switches are in this device.  I did find the controls responded nicely while playing the games.  The sound has 4 levels – Off, Low, Medium and Loud.   In some games the sounds do distort during gameplay and the music does get repetitive.
Running on 3 AA batteries you can expect to get around 4 hours of play time. The manual shows the names and screenshots of the games included on the MultiCade.  Likewise you can see a screen shot of a game and its title when on the game selection screen.

    Pros:
Wide variety of games Some very good reworked arcade classics (Defender, Galaga, Elevator Action, Etc...) Nice cabinet artwork Decent controls Cons:
Sound distortions in some games Game music gets repetitive Low resolution screen Overall I like this MultiCade, much better than the DreamGear My Arcade I reviewed some time ago.   With a better selection of games and a improved graphical interface, this MultiCade is more desirable for continued play.  Typically this can be found for around 30 dollars, but if you shop around you may find it at a lower cost.

Rating: (3 out of 5 mincades)

Hah well here is a couple videos, NOT NEW (THEY ARE FROM ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO) BUT I had never posted them on my main MaximumRD channel before today. I just uploaded them and so I share them here today. Another cheap ANDROID GAMING tablet, I love my previous JXD units but this model is by a company called GPD. What I find in general with these various cheaper import tablets is there is generally always something that is lacking. Compared to my JXD this unit seems to have a screen that is easier to scratch as well the WiFi connection seems weaker. That said for actual emulation and gaming they are pretty sweet with built in controller buttons and Dpad etc. Anyway here is an unboxing of the GPD unit followed later by a flashing of the default ANDROID firmware, this is something I do with all of these type of devices as the default firmwares while serviceable are often lacking compared to alternatives made available by homebrew developers like Skelton.

Forgotten Video! Unboxing the GPDQ88+/Q89ANDROID Gaming tablet! One of a couple videos that I had never gotten around to posting on this my main channel. OK actually it IS the GPD Q89 but at the time of ordering I was expecting the Q88+, Willgoo seemed to take a long time to ship but it worked out as I ended up with this slightly upgraded Q89 model. Anyway, here is the unboxing in part #1 which I will immediately follow up with a Custom Fimrware Flash in part #2. Thanks for watching!

Forgotten Video! GPDQ88+/Q89ANDROID Gaming tablet! Flashing CFW. One of a couple videos that I had never gotten around to posting on this my main channel. Here you will see me Flash the Default ROM with another of Skelton's awesome custom Android Firmware's , yes I decided to do that as they are always an improvement IMHO and better than the custom stock firmware typically shipped with these cheaper import tablets.
