  1. The six new re-imagined games! (Source: Atari) Swordquest: AirWorld – Yes, you read that right: After nearly 40 years of waiting, the team at Digital Eclipse has created the fourth and final entry in the legendary Swordquest series, inspired by the design concepts of original Swordquest creator Tod Frye. Who will be the first to solve its mysteries – and finally complete the quest? Haunted Houses – The original “survival horror” game for the Atari 2600 gets a modern 3D voxel-based sequel, featuring more houses, more spooky situations, and more urns. VCTR-SCTR – This mashup celebration of the vector era of gaming combines the gameplay from Asteroids, Tempest, and other vector-based arcade classics into a single, continuous challenge. Neo Breakout – An amazing and addictive two-player competition that combines the best features of Breakout and Pong, with a modern graphic style. Quadratank – The first new entry in the classic Tank series since 1978 combines features from the original games with four-player fun in team or free-for-all modes. Yars’ Revenge Reimagined – Howard Scott Warshaw’s masterpiece for the Atari 2600 gets a whole new look – and you can swap between original and modern graphics at any time! Designed by Digital Eclipse studio head Mike Mika, who created the Game Boy Color version of Yars’ Revenge in 1999.
  2. Release Date: November 11, 2022 Retail: $39.99 Developer(s): Digital Eclipse Publisher: Atari Official Site Synopsis : "Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration takes players on an interactive journey through 50 years of video games via interviews with designers, developers and industry leaders, documentary footage, product design documents, high-resolution original artwork, and a specially-curated list of more than 90 playable games. At the heart of Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration are the Interactive Timelines, which combine historical trivia, digital artifacts, all-new video interviews, and playable games into one singular experience. When you encounter a game in the Timeline, you can immediately play it without losing your place. The massive list of games spans six original Atari console and home computer platforms and generations of arcade titles, the most ever included in a collection by the team at Digital Eclipse. For the first time ever, games from the cult favorite Atari Jaguar and Atari Lynx platforms will be playable on modern consoles. Behind every game are the stories of Atari, what was happening at the company, what went into the creation of the games and the hardware on which they ran, all told by the people who were there. It is a rare opportunity to get a rich behind-the-scenes look at the history of video games. In addition to presenting these Atari classics exactly as they were, the talented team at Digital Eclipse has also created the Reimagined series—six new games that revisit, mash-up and reimagine Atari Classics. Each of these new games is included in Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration."
  3. Welcome to the official topic for ATARI 50: The Anniversary Celebration
  4. Atari just dropped the trailer for Atari 50. It looks like a game anthology with interviews. The cool thing is it has six new games, plus Lynx and Jaguar titles! The Jaguar titles alone are going to be worth the price of entry. The video has Atari Karts, Fight for Life, T2K, Missile Command 3D, Cybermorph and more... Coming in November!
  5. I definitely agree with you. I think that a lot of folks who have been into Atari for a long while actually undervalue the games. They were readily available and inexpensive to acquire for a long time. That does not mean they are cheap to produce in small, limited edition runs. I'd add that what they are asking for in 2022 isn't too far off from retail in 1981. From the BLS inflation calculator (May 22 is the most recent date): I've decided that I'm getting these.
  6. Here's the big issue with the most recent announcement: price. Missile Command is dirt common. It's a great game but I'm willing to bet most of us have several copies. It's a hard proposition at $100. Adventure is a bit less common and prices have spiked thanks to Ready Player One and now Stranger Things. It's an easier sell given where the market is. Current pricecharting for reference. The packages do look very nice! Who doesn't love gatefold boxes, enamel pins, patches and a light up cart?
  7. They really do look cool. One of their Discord mods just posted a production pic of Yars' Return. Apparently they are just waiting for the boxes from the printers.
  8. 50th Anniversary Ltd. Carts. The prematurely announced Adventure and now Missile Command. Both at $99. The packages themselves look nice but boxed copies - especially of Missile Command - are relatively easy to come by. Not sure that this is the direction they should go with the XP line... 8 more XP carts to be announced this year. https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/atari-xp-2600-missle-command-adventure/
  9. Another interview with Nolan via How To Geek. https://www.howtogeek.com/812246/atari-was-very-very-hard-nolan-bushnell-on-atari-50-years-later/
  10. New Atari 50th interview up with Nolan Bushnell and current Atari CEO Wade Rosen at IGN! https://www.ign.com/videos/atari-50th-anniversary-interview-with-nolan-bushnell
  11. There are just over 4 days left. Scores can be posted anytime before Thursday, June 30, 11:59 pm PST.
  12. A version of Rampage that doesn't get a lot of mentions is Activision's 1989 port on the 7800.

It's surprisingly good and has everything you would want from a Rampage game. That said, George, Lizzie and Ralph do look a bit like the Muppet Babies.😅🤣😂🦎🙈🐺Screenshot_20220626-115118_Instagram~2.jpg

I think Rampage for the A7800 plays even better than the NES version. At least, it's truer-looking to the arcade with no added intermissions. The NES version has a chart of how much damage is done to the United States, while the arcade version doesn't have that. That is why i think the A7800 looks closer in that respect, plus the sprites do like the Muppet Babies. But that doesn't detract much from the game, at least to me.

Atari were great at making the levels in arcade copies close proximities to the arcade counterparts in most games. That is why I like Atari games so much. Thanks for letting me share. :O)

There is a hack KevinMos3 is making to make A7800 Rampage more arcade-accurate. I am sure you have heard about that. :O)

  13. It's streaming on Paramount+. That's where we watched it. Maverick was awesome! It maybe hits one too many beats from the original but the action is enthralling.
  14. Incredible score @E. King ! Not sure of you all have seen the "Scoreboard" section of the forum, but I encourage you to check it out and post your best scores there.
  15. More rocking & rolling with BPM Boy! If you have a VCS you owe it to yourself to grab this game.

  16. Very cool! Is this by a fan or official/internal?
  17. Episode 8 was so much fun! It was also heartbreaking. It definitely was reminiscent of "Qpid" or a holodeck adventure and that's not a bad thing. This first season is top shelf Trek. It may be the strongest first season in the franchise.
  18. These are all great ways to celebrate! Keep em' coming! I'll probably play some modern VCS and Jaguar games! #dothemath
  19. On June 27, 1972, business partners Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney formally incorporated Atari, Inc. in Sunnyvale, CA. Next Monday, June 27, 2022, is the 50th Anniversary of Atari! While the brand has undergone countless changes over the years, the legacy of Atari endures. Whichever era of Atari that you're a fan of, the brand has likely provided you with cherished memories of friends and family, awesome gameplay experiences, and has brought us all here to this great community at Atari I/O! How will you be celebrating Atari's 50th?
  20. Shout out to @E. King for his commitment to testing all of these alternative controllers on the AtariVCS! He's doing the work so we don't have to! It's a public service! 🕹️
