  1. My hope is they move enough units to create a fully functioning MAXI version as they are doing with the C64. The ability to side-load is good enough for me at this price point. And the 400 is my favorite in terms of design. It's achingly 70s.
  2. I saw these too @TrekMD! The handheld has an SD card slot confirmed (by GenXGrownUp). I may actually pick this next iteration up.

  5. Hot on the heels of the 2600+, PLAION announces the Atari 400 Mini. Retro Games Ltd. and PLAION are happy to announce The 400 Mini, a half-sized modern replica of the classic Atari 400. The 400 Mini is fitted with the CXSTICK offering an enhanced and updated version of the classic CX40 Atari joystick boasting an additional seven seamlessly integrated function buttons and USB connectivity. Modern features have been enabled with The 400 Mini such as the ability to side-load games via a USB stick, Rewind and save states for games, HDMI output at 50 or 60hz, and emulation support for the whole 8-bit Atari range from the 400 to the 800XL, and the Atari 5200 home console. The system is preloaded with 25 retro games for enjoyment right out of the box. The 400 Mini is launching on March 28 for $119.
  6. That's almost a triple patch score. We'll done!
  7. I have never seen that commercial! Why does Neptune have a horde of pirate submarines at his command? It seems like it should have been sharks and merfolk.
  8. I'd second A.R.T.I., which is also available for the modern VCS. The VCS is a great way to check out 7800 games, including homebrew, for far less than a physical cart.
  9. FWIW I reported this bug to Davpa. Let's hope it gets addressed.
  10. 3,850. Berzerk Enhanced, Game 3 on the 2600+ with a CX-40+. A terrible score. 🤣
  11. Not that anyone should have to, but did you try cleaning the cart? I saw someone reporting similar issues with Mr. R&J that were resolved by cleaning and repeated inserts.
  12. Ugh. I had the same issue. This sucks.
  13. @Marco1019 - The update is pretty big but should work fine. Give it up to 30 minutes depending on your internet speed.
  14. A very cool interview with Ben Jones of Plaion on the development of the 2600+. The interview starts at 43:08. Interesting insights here.
  15. The first Activision game to hit the series is Seaquest (1983). I love Steve Cartwright's work on the 2600. Barnstorming, Seaquest, Megamania, Frostbite...great stuff. Seaquest is one I came to as an adult. I love the bright colors and simple but challenging gameplay. I really wanted a patch worthy score, but it was not to be... What do you think of Seaquest?
  16. Welcome to the Club @Ettinsoft! The game looks like a lot of fun and we're happy to help get the word out to our small but mighty VCS community. It's always great to see developers check-in with the community. Feel free to share any updates on your game here as the port progresses.
  17. PSA: I'm on Davpa's Twitch stream and he said the VCS holiday sale ends tonight. Get 'em while you can! (6 hours to go)

  18. Yeah, it's really great to see your user group get back together @Ballistik! Thanks also for revisiting the zine unboxing. I was so happy to be able to bring out a print edition of the first issue. We'll see what the future holds...
  19. This is where they lose me...

"Atari laid the groundwork for console gaming as we know it today, so it was important for G FUEL to honor that legacy with a refreshing new flavor and one of the biggest Collector's Boxes we've ever produced," said G FUEL CEO Bryan Crowley. "We know that Atari fans will be spending hours exploring all that the new Atari 2600+ system has to offer, and G FUEL is the perfect way to stay energized and focused during those long classic gaming sessions."

  20. Release Date: January 5, 2023 Retail: $8.99 Developer(s): Todd Furmanski Publisher: Todd Furmanski Official Site Todd Furmanski's "Harpy's Curse" for the Atari 7800 is now available on the Atari VCS! You are a harpy - swift of wing and vicious in nature. Banished to a deadly labyrinth, you are tasked with defeating the four keepers of the maze - only then can you face the Great Sphinx, who exiled you here. The labyrinth contains legendary artifacts - feathers of legendary birds and beasts that might aid you. Power might be found here, but you genuinely wish for escape, and the only way out is through the Sphinx. • Explore a vast scrolling maze made up of over 500 screens! • Fly and fight your way to find new abilities and powers! • Five bosses to find hidden among the winding passages! Note: The game does work with the Modern Controller, but the emulator has a feature that can lead to frustration. Currently, the emulator has the L3 (the left joystick button) mapped as a Game Reset. This makes it very easy to reset your game amid play. This button mapping will get updated very soon. For now, the Joystick is the best way to play the game, but you can play with the Modern Controller if you know the L3 issue.
  21. Welcome to the official topic for Harpy's Curse
  22. If you're talking about original retail releases and enjoy arcade classics, you really can't go wrong with the launch titles done by GCC. They are the most common, and generally well regarded. The three Nintendo properties are solid. There are great later releases like Ninja Golf and Tower Toppler, too. It gets harder when you add homebrew. There is so much goodness. The excellent unobtainium homebrew Rikki and Vikki is my favorite, followed by BonQ, Donkey Kong XM/PK, Knight Guy in Low Res World: Castle Days, and Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. I'm sure that will change when I recieve my last chance order from AA.
  23. I did not share this earlier, but on Tuesday I was making my normal commute when I was hit in the intersection while making a protected left turn. The other driver ran the red. Fortunately, I'm just a bit sore and we'll see if my car can be repaired or not.

Two good samaritans stopped to check on me. They both were rushed for work and didn't stick around for the cops but promised to send their dash cam footage and contact info. Fortunately, both followed through. I can't quit watching it. If I was a split second earlier into my turn, my one year old may not know her dad.

Just a reminder to hold your loved ones tight and do not take things for granted. I lost my father to a drunk driver over 20 years ago. No one has a guarantee on tomorrow.

I just caught this @Sabertooth. I shared this with my Mom. When I was 18 months old we were moving to a new place, and my mom was hit by a drunk driver with her car full of framed pictures and fragile glassware. The drunk driver was driving with an already revoked license and hit her from behind on an overpass, scooping her car up and flipping it over an embankment and she was thrown from the car. She told me just now she can still remember the sound of the car wheel rolling right next to her head as the car rolled down the hill. I came very close to growing up not having known my mom, and I think quite often about how lucky I am that I got to live in this "timeline" where my mom is alive, and that things weren't worse for her. She miscarried twins shortly afterward which we always believed was related to the accident. I saw my mom at Christmas and showed her the Club VCS Zine and told her a bit about you and what you had done with the club, which - after having been my mom and going on this Atari obsession with me from the beginning - thought was incredibly impressive and really cool. I reminded her of you again tonight when I shared your story with her, and mentioned I'd share this story with you here. I'm glad you're okay, and that your family and little girl still have you. I hope the rest of 2024 is good to you.

Thanks for sharing @Justin. How horrible that experience must have been for your mother.  I'm happy that you're in the "timeline" where you grew up knowing her.

These narrow misses really put things/life into perspective.  I'm still processing this, both physically and emotionally, but I'm absolutely thrilled and eternally grateful to be here for my family.

  24. That's a really cool addition @CrossBow. Thanks for sharing! It's fantastic that Plaion/Atari are working with the community techies to improve emulation over all. Focusing on a single game goes beyond my expectations. Any progress on 7800 Rampage or Double Dragon in your build? My 7800 Klax (from CPUWIZ about a decade ago) doesn't work, but I've seen others whose carts do work.
