HDN Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 Wanted: lighthouse fanatics I don't know why, but I've always loved Lighthouses. Here in Wisconsin, we have tons of lighthouses along lake michigan. I read somewhere a while back that Door County was one of the most lighthouse-dense places on earth, but don't quote me on that. I don't know, I've just always found lighthouses interesting. Quote
RickR Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 Here's a picture of a lighthouse in Long Beach, Washington. This one was a lot of fun because it was quite a hike to get there. I'm sure I have a bunch of other pictures of the lighthouses in Oregon and Washington, but I'll have to look for them later. socrates63 and HDN 2 Quote
socrates63 Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 I’m not a fanatic but I visited one in Fort Casey (Washington state) during a family outing a few years ago. They certainly represent a time gone by and figured prominently in history and culture. HDN 1 Quote

HDN Posted August 17, 2020 Author Report Posted August 17, 2020 @RickR Cool! I have never been to the west coast but I would like to someday! What I have been doing the past few years is going to see all the ones in my state whenever I'm near one. I have probably seen over 30 here Quote
TrekMD Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 I have two that can share. Neither in the US. The first one is at Harvest Caye, Belize and the second one is at Roatan, Honduras... socrates63 and RickR 2 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Justin Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 Not quite an actual lighthouse, but a tall cylindrical building towards the shore of an Island. @StormSurge has posted about this before: https://fishersisland.net/fishers-islands-round-house-stands-out-even-in-the-land-of-unusual-houses/ Quote
StormSurge Posted August 17, 2020 Report Posted August 17, 2020 (edited) There's five lighthouses I can see within a quick walk from my house to the shore. The first is my all-time favorite, Race Rock: The story about the construction of the lighthouse is insane & Ghost Hunters filmed an episode there, but I'm not going to dignify that with a link. 🙄 Next up is New London Ledge Lighthouse. This one is a little farther away, but the ferry to FI passes right by it: The next in line (I'm going west to east) is North Dumpling Lighthouse (you can see it in the background of the Ledge Light photo). The cool story about North Dumpling is that the island is owned by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway. Check out his mini Stonehenge! Next in line is Latimer Reef Light. Nothing too fancy about this one, but it has a cool bell that chimes frequently. And finally, Watch Hill Lighthouse, which is in Westerly, RI. Taylor Swift has a home near that. 🙂 On a clear day, I can see Montauk Point Light on Long Island. Edited August 17, 2020 by StormSurge HDN, RickR and Justin 1 2 Quote
